This looks really helpful. I have managed to remove fungus from lenses before but always struggled and failed to remove haze. So I will give this a try using your technique and see how I get on. Thank you very much for posting this.

Hi Thanx for the great video that gives some confidence when buying this lens. Question: I have my sight on a lens that is clear at the moment. After all these years; Will it stay like that or will the haze stillcome at some point. Regards from the Netherlands
@diyextravaganza
@diyextravaganza Жыл бұрын
Hello, I bought a clear one a few years ago, but the haze came probably after two years. So, I'd say it is inevitable. What you really need to pay attention is if the small group (the third assembly from the front, or second from the back), has haze or separation, less common but happens nevertheless. That one is a sealed element that you cannot open without destructive means. Cheers.

That's amazing, I'm ready to try it. Any issues w/ working loose later? Are you redisolving old glue to reuse & it sets OK? Wil this haze come back in back eventually even if stored better in temp control ?
@diyextravaganza
@diyextravaganza Жыл бұрын
Hi thanks, no, I don't use glue again, this is what caused the haze to start with. Haven't had any feedback of later issues and I've repairing this for 5 years now. Cheers.

Hi I have these 35-70 af2.8 D, and I used them in the past on a Nikon D70, D300, F70, and FM3a and worked great . Did not use them for quite few years now I tried them and noted that the focus ring is not working the full range from 0.6 to infinity, it’s working only from. 1m to 3m , at both end of the range is not touching the end of the range. Would you please advise what could be the issue and if this is repairable? I live in Texas USA
@diyextravaganza
@diyextravaganza Жыл бұрын
Hi, first thing I'd try would be to remove the bayonet (remove black part first) and remove the focusing gear and try to move by hand the focusing ring, just to understand where is blocking. It is repairable but hard to tell without having a look at the lens. Cheers.

For the haze, you need to do many many times, it will go away eventually. For the fungus, can't you add a little video on your KZfaq? Best

@@fabiosales2985 Hi, I saw, for the haze, you'll need to insist on the cleaning, the next group is tricky because it is sealed and near impossible to open, I usually replace it altogether.

I have one with some balsam seperation in the rear complex lens. Is there any way to clean it to fix it ? Thank you.
@diyextravaganza
@diyextravaganza 8 ай бұрын
Hi, you mean the small one, that one it's near impossible to fix as it has a metal casing. I've tried but it takes an incredible amount of effort to open. Finally, I've settled to buying 35-70mm 2.8 in unrepairable condition and keep those elements for replacement. Cheers.

is there a way to fix the front glass becaues mine has scraches on it is it possible to fix it and where
@diyextravaganza
@diyextravaganza Жыл бұрын
Removing scratches usually involves repolishing, which will remove the coatings, so, you need to recoat. Since the lens is a common one, that will probably cost more than buying a "parts" lens. This is what I usually do, I buy copies beyond repair and recover the parts. I think I have one front element, I can sell it to you but it will depend more on where you live to see if adding the shipping price makes sense. Best

I’m planning to do it. But there was glue on the internal element. How did you replace it.? What Kindle of glue?
@diyextravaganza

I did not add new glue. I keep it as is, so if I need to come back I don't struggle and avoid risk of having the problem back. Cheers

Hello. I tried but I forgot to mark the position of the focus 3:11 and can´t turn the focus to infinitus... Must I do it by trial and error?
@diyextravaganza

Hello, sadly yes. To gain time in such situations, I put some paper tape on the lens and mark each entry position, so I'm able to discard all the wrong solutions. It takes time and patience though. Cheers.

There are two "back" elements. The one next to the bayonet is easily serviceable, the next one is a sealed element. Impossible to open without doing some damage. Cheers.
