First of all, thank you for the video, it helped me clean a very dirty lens that I couldn't use and that I didn't think I'd be able to ever use. If like me, you can't get rubber cone, you might want to try an empty toilet paper roll instead: It has an almost perfect diameter for the task, but lacks the grip. To overcome that, I wanted to add double sided tape on the internal diameter. But since it won't stick well to flimsy cardboard, I had to first cover the last inch of the cardboard with glue (I used polyethylene), and after it gets dry (1-2 hours) I added the double sided tape. You want to get to a state where you have to push the TP roll hard onto the lens, so that it has a good grip. Once that was achieved, unscrewing it was very easy.

Tip for putting the front back on. Put the top ring in the infinite position and then mount the front in such a way that the screw hole becomes visible through the outer opening. This way you restore the full range of focus from 0.6 to inf. So vary your starting point for screwing it in, until you get the alignment right

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'm inspired to d surgery on my hazy Tokina 28-70mm again. I and a repairman have tried to clean the haze that is in between elements without any luck. He used acetone to remove the glue in a group of elements but that did not work. I'll try alcohol to soften and remove the glue once I get free time. BTW I'm only keeping that lens because its a very rare non extending 2.8 zoom. All my other zooms are like that (Tokina's 11-16mm and 50-135mm.)

I followed your instructions and I thought all went well until I went to use the lens and it only focuses on close up shots. Infinity is blurry. What did I do wrong?
@diyextravaganza
@diyextravaganza 16 күн бұрын
You probably did not align properly the front element which is doing the focusing, you need to remove the front element and do some trial and error until you get focusing at infinity (long distances right). It is a point that I did not stressed enough on this video; there is a newer version of this video with improved explanations kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rsyAp62Jq6fcgHU.html. By the way, did you managed to remove the haze?, sometimes it is very though to remove. Regards.

Hi, great video, thanks for posting. One comment - I think I saw another video by you, same lens, but in Spanish. In that one you marked the front element and body together so you could put them together in the correct place without trial and error on the helicoid position - is that correct ? thanks.

Thank you for your video. When you unscrew the group you have an element ( the one you cleaned) and an other element or an element ( the one you cleaned) and a GROUP ? Mine 35-70 has some kind of balsam seperation and a technitian told me that is Unfixable Thank you
@diyextravaganza

you mean the small element just after the one I cleaned?, if yes, the technician is right, it is very hard to fix. Best is to replace it.

@@diyextravaganza Yes I am talking about it. Is it a Group i guess ?
@diyextravaganza
@diyextravaganza 3 жыл бұрын
@@DimitrisPapadopoulos1980 yes, it is a doublet, thus the balsam separation. I tried that repair once, but abandonned it since it was too complicated to perform and found a replacement online (out of a dead lens).

Hi, I am following your instructions but the inner lens won't turn and come out as in 9:20. I am using your recommended Japanese rubber cone. Can you suggest me some options to loosen that lens, thanks!
@diyextravaganza
@diyextravaganza 4 жыл бұрын
Patience. Sometimes they don't come immediately, you need some patience. If you can access, you can put some alcohol (or acetone free nail remover) into the threading, it makes it easier to get it loose.

Hi, I am from Argentina. So sorry for my bad English. One technician recommended me no tu use it in my D750 because in the future the lens will be affect some parts of the diaphragm system and the focus motor/engine. Do you know something about this? Thanks in advance. Regards.
