I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen Leo. He opened for DOZENS of my favorite bands (Zappa, Weather Report, Johnny Winter, etc…I have photos of him at many of those openers). I’ve come to appreciate solo acoustic playing as I’ve matured, and from day one, he set the bar very high. A master of the craft 👏👍

I will never comprehend how someone could be so musical and make it look so easy. Leo has mystified me for decades.

Wonderful to see Leo Kottke is still alive and well and playing about as well as ever. He's on my list of the greatest guitarists ever (with Tommy Emmanuel and Mark Knopfler for sure, maybe Joe Bonamassa, too, and saving a spot open for the many great guitarists I don't want to leave out).

My Band "Skunk Junction" opened for the Allman Bros in St Petersburg FL in 1969. We sat in a circle backstage and passed around a couple of doobies and talked about Music.

I always have loved Leo's stories. In addition to music, he has a Mark Twain thing about him. Funny, introspective and philosophical all at once. I went to his shows whenever he was within a day's drive and never saw one that wasn't worth the drive.

I ran Sound for him at the Sheridan Opera House in Telluride in 1999. I've always loved his playing, but my favorite part of the Show was his banter and stories in between each piece of Music. He is FUNNY, and a Great Story Teller!

I'm no guitarist, but aren't those called overtones? Either way, Leo Kottke is a master of the technique. Such subtle touch. Absolutely beautiful version of Duane Allman's most beautiful composition.

On the energy in a room that seems to have a life of it's own, I think the line from a Garcia Lorca poem: The emptied space of the dance stays above the last of the ashes. To me that means the energy and spirit(s) of previous performances stays with the space and enlivens it with each new performance. Leo definitely feeling that space liveliness.

I got to see Leo live a bunch of times . Pretty much never missed an opportunity . The show with a special place in my memories was at the Vogue in Broad Ripple , Indiana . I friend of mine was opening for him , and knowing I love to hear him play he invited me to ride in with him and help carry some equipment in . My friend invited me backstage and introduced me to Leo . I told him a little tale about first time I saw him , and he talked about that particular show , while tuning . And , another great performance .

I've seen Leo twice, both times a revelation. Most interesting was at Philadelphia's Spectrum in the late 70's where he was the middle act between Orleans (Dance with me ... yuck - the Philly audience nearly booed them off the stage) and Linda Ronstadt. I'm sure that Leo was expecting similar harsh treatment from the crowd, but little known to him was the fact that he had a very large Philadelphia following - Most of the crowd had come to hear HIM, not Linda! He came out, was beautifully received, and finished his set. Linda came out with her band, and the audience is shouting, "We want Leo, we want Leo." She couldn't even begin - didn't know what to do. So she invited Leo out on stage to do a couple numbers with her, the crowd went wild, Leo walked off, to a standing O and Linda finished her set in peace.

God bless the Philly fans. That story makes me feel much better, knowing that when Leo played Miami in the 1980s, the venue lost money. The music audiences here were a herd of morons in that era. Michael Hedges played there too. It was a short-lived outpost of Long Island's Stephen Talkhouse, on Miami Beach. Lasted about 2 years. Some wonderful music was heard there.

@@bonconfidant7514 Nowadays it is nearly impossible to enjoy any concert anywhere because all these self centered young people NEED to put their phones in the air blocking the view of the stage in order to record the worst ever quality video...just like this KZfaq boob.

Wow! He is such a great story teller and combines such humor! I love listening to what he has to say too! A beautiful song and he makes the "chime" technique look so fluid and easy, a technique where if your touch is only slightly off it deadens. His chimes are so clear and brilliant. It's like this little girl who died some hundred plus years ago, that the writer of this song was creating a music box for her as gift, either that or Leo was intending that. In some ways I wanted to know her full name, how old she was etc, but maybe that's not important as it's for all children. I think of the little 7 year old migrant girl from Guatemala that died of dehydration while under border patrol custody. She's in a song I wrote. I heard he plays on Taylor guitars. I can't see the name at the top of the neck. Is that what he has here? It seems like a huge size, only I play on a tiny in comparison 3/4 size classical guitar. I wish I had a nice steel string guitar, maybe some day. Also, does anyone know... it seems he's tuned to open D and wondering if that's right. Also, why did he put the capo on the second fret for this song? I know that changes keys, yet wondering why otherwise. Thanks FretsmanRFS for making this great moment in music possible.

"Little Martha" was the last song that Duane Allman recorded, before moving on to the other side. When Greg Allamn died last year, I cried, for I grew up listening to their music. Get ready for large music festivals in Heaven, for all this great of the 60's - 90's will be played again on the other side. All saved musicans wil take satan and hiis music friend's place. That is why he hates US so much and wished all all dead, Will you make it? is the next question? Jesus is the WAY. Long live Leo !
