Leonard Cohen's voice is like a warm blanket for the soul

God bless Leonard Cohen. Rest In Peace, and thank you for music. So sad this woman treated you so crassly and cold.

Cohen's civility in the face of this obnoxious woman is very inspiring. He takes all of her questions perfectly seriously and simply answers them.

Man, his voice is great even when he talks.

That women is VULGAR. Leonard Cohen on the otherhand shows what a beautiful person he is.

He still makes the point. Everybody has something. He rises above her and gets his points across.

The interviewer is shallow and de-respectful, everytime Lenard starts saying something deep and insightful, she stops him with one of her glamourous set up stupid questions, not all, but many. He has been very humble and intelligent, with this cheeky woman!

What a truly wonderful guy,he handled her so well,depression is an awful illness,you have to go through it to really understand what it does to you,i would not wish it on my worst enemy.

Leonard is a gem , he deserves respect.

It is a complete myth that Leonard Cohen's work is depressing. Most of it is extraordinarily uplifting.

This woman is clearly someone who has bought into every cliché ever uttered re depression/artistic expression. Leonard doesn't just display good grace here; he shows what it must be like to be enlightened.

Every word he said in response to this interviewer was perfectly stated in honesty. I listened to every word.If you have suffered with clinical depression, this is a godsend interview for us who shared the same disease.I was and am not alone, thank you Leonard. I only hope you have been released of it now that you are on the other side.

He put all his emotions into his art & created beautiful, melodies set to soul-touching, fearlessly-human lyrics. Beloved. Even though the lady seems a bit off kilter, I am thankful she pressed him for insight.... I come back to this interview from time to time.... it has saved my life because Cohen was pressed to explain the essence of the pain I feel ....trying desperately to find a reason to keep on living.... it's hard.... so grateful that he was ask to explored the depth of his pain... he's genuine... not fake.... GRATITUDE I've lost count of the number of times I've watched his DVD in Tibet...again...insightful...

A predisposition for depression is a big part of the artistic personality. This interview has helped me to understand Cohen. He is a very smart and educated man.

One of my biggest regret I did not have a chance to see this man in concert. I like the guy. When I am stuck in traffic I put his songs. It calmed me down instantly. Thé greatest!

the interviewer is a little immature for the depth of feelings, emotion, experience that Leonard Cohen is relating. In the last 10 years or so people have become much more open about sharing the difficulties and confusion about life.

holy shit, I cannot stand this woman Jesus Christ. I don't think I have ever loved Leonard Cohen more than after he answered the "Prozac" question because he acted more gentleman like than I would.

I met Leonard Cohen in Phoenix, Arizona after a concert just before he was leaving the Celebrity Theater in his limousine in 1976. He actually made the time for me to pose a question regarding his yet unrecorded song, “The Swan”, which appeared in 1979 on his album ‘Recent Songs’. (‘The Swan’ it floated on the English river…’). He actually took the time to have me express my reaction to this recently composed chanson and gracefully put up with my having interrupted his attempt to exit the area to thank me for expressing my favorable reaction and shook my hand before stepping into the waiting limo. He was living in Los Angeles at the time and chose to perform at this theater two or three times in 1976 as it was the perfect venue to sort out new material for his upcoming recording sessions given the intrinsic intimacy of this theater in the round. For me, his patience in allowing me this generous opportunity was typical of the attitude in never allowing himself to feel above any attendee but rather had the innate capacity to relate on an individual level with any admirer of his work.

she wasn't as insulting as she was learning... his honesty just blazes and she was learning about creativity from a master, Leonard Cohen.

A pretty cold interviewer and at times, rude. Must not have been hard to get that job. Cohen was a dear. He also almost seemed childlike.

This woman is awful. His songs are not depressing! They are laments about longing about the human condition; romantic and sentimental. She is depressing, shallow, curt and glib and obviously lacks depth missing the point completely Leonard Cohen was/is a great man and a true artist (RIP)

A prayer was answered later on when the veil of ‘shipwreck’ lifted for this beautiful human being. He came to realize his own truth: he came to Victory and Lightness and undeterred, he continued to write and sing his gifts 🙏🏻💗

I agree. I've dealt with depression for most of my life, on and off (I'm in my mid 50s now) and, while nothing he said surprised me, he has such a gift with words that his description of the difficulty at the worst of it in even moving from one moment to the next provides me some comfort. Perhaps it's partly knowing the company I keep isn't bad at all. What I really think is that his willingness to be so naked about it felt freeing for me &, I'm willing to bet, for others who struggle with it.

Leonard Cohen is a brilliant poet, writer, musician and comes across as a genuine, wise, funny and humble man. What a pity that the interviewer is so clearly on a different planet, I found this hard to watch, all credit to him that he remained so Cool. (The capital letter was intentional!)

Love that man's memory. He is so articulate and feeling. Have to admit, the woman seemed a little clueless as to who she was talking to. Cohen was great before she was born and his name will be remembered long after hers is forgotten.

It always makes me cringe a little when I hear somebody with depression issues cornered into explaining it like it's some kind of mental malfunction, as if a person could chalk up their reaction to this existence and therefore their life as a malady based on some comparison to "normal" peoples behavior. Some might argue that the people who carry the banners for the status quo in such a twisted and vicious society are the mentally deranged ones. I guess he said that though, everybody has their thing. I just find it a little smug when people act as if there is some prototypical way of being and everyone who can't or won't accept or aspire to it are broken.

I got 4 minutes left to watch, but had to react before I watched another second, THIS woman is clearly the MENTAL PERSON I Can already tell..just saying

"Everybody's got to deal with something that is rough". Never a truer word spoken. And there hangs the key to LC's success: he puts into words those evanescent, transient fleeting thoughts that zap through your mind when you least expect them. The floodgates start leaking and seep bits of bad memory debris which engulf you.

I actually really liked the interviewer. - I've suffered terrible depression for many many years, and I loved the answers she was drawing out of him. It may sound harsh or inapropriate the way she spoke to him, but his mastery of conversation actually made me wish this interview was hours long.

The lack of the interviewer's sensitivity in her tone is shocking. Mr. Cohen has the poise and grace to answer her with an inner strength and honest and brave responses. Hopefully she learned a lot about herself after conducting this interview.

Glad to see, after scrolling down, I wasn't the only one who thought this woman was terrible. She seemed clueless and obnoxious to me, fake... gave me the heebie jeebies! But Leonard handled it very well and gave impressive responses to everything.

Yet another reason for me to adore Leonard Cohen... and I totally get where he's coming from about depression, relationships, and creativity.

Interesting to see the reaction here to the attitude of the interviewer, and their perception of how obnoxious and insulting she is when, in fact, her questions are insightful and right on the mark. It's a challenge to interview anyone who is famous, it takes skill, and this lady came prepared, didn't stumble her way through it, but knew about him, and asked intelligent questions. It seemed to me that both of them enjoyed the conversation, and neither one found it insulting. Cohen seemed perfectly at ease. And he is, by the way, a favorite of mine, a poet and something of a genius. I love his music, and above all his brilliant lyrics.

I gave a like to that video, only for how Mr Cohen answers to that woman's questions..what a classy speech he had , great mind.. his voice reflects a kind of wisdom not many people have... some of the questions were asked in a rude way, but he is such a gentle artist and a very great one!

To those making extreme derogatory comments about the interviewer, maybe reflect on whether Cohen himself, a Buddhist, would support your views. Admiring his humanity while shooting her is contradictory.

She comes over as cynical and aggressive and obviously had little empathy for someone admitting to having severe depression. How did she get this interview ?? Leonard Cohen comes across as being a warm, gentle human being and he was very patient and controlled during this.

Leonard was a true poet , he worked on his darkness and revealed himself in so many masterpieces. He was truly an amazing artist , you either appreciated his intellectual deliverance or you missed out on such an amazing profound experience of his songs enriched by his poetic lyrics.

It's amazing how the times have changed in talking about depression. When you grow up in an age where it is looked upon as a failing or stigmatized even in the sixties To it was something you hid. There are times I still cannot believe I made it this far. The main thing that I finally learned was that feeling of inertia and fear of making the wrong move, passes it's not forever. It is still very difficult but I know it's not the end. I am glad that is easier to talk about for the ones who suffer from this demon.

Of course I love Leonard Cohen but this interviewer is the the best I've ever seen. In spite of other comments here she asked all the right questions unselfconsciously. The questions I would have asked.

He was just incredible. I know that's an overused descriptive word, but I cannot say enough about Leonard Cohen's contribution to the world.

What a gracious, insightful person. His humility is real. This guy rules.

Leonard Cohen shows many qualities during this interview. My perception may be wrong, but the interviewer could learn much from this interview, receive some wonderful gifts from it, listening to herself and the way her questions were dealt with again after a few years.

It is a clunky interview, but he handles it with admirable grace and charm.

I sincerely came to hear LC voice which i find soothing to my anxious addicted mind and found very unsettling remarks about the reporter...LC was a practicing Buddhist...acceptance and suffering was his path perhaps I need to learn more from him when I see such negative remarks in the comment section. Love Mr. Cohen's ability to be even-handed and laugh at himself... a bit of his personality shines through, despite the clunky mechanical style of the interview. Picturing the maestro Leonard Cohen being pelted by an automatic tennis server is classic.

He is the epitome of a gentleman here, very polite and straight ahead -it looks highly edited.... she's had too much coffee or stupidity, and wants to get a story and i believe has read a one paragraph bio on someone she knows nothing about. He has such a brilliant history, he is a poet and songwriter and legend for many many years and she is completely clueless and wearing the same hairstyle she had in 1990. I don't know why that bothered me, but it did. Perhaps because he's classic and she's....really bad. Whoever sent her to this job should have been fired. however, his words are wonderful; he has a lot of patience trying to do this interview. Everyone should have the ability to be so gracious, but that is indeed a gift.

self inquiry does not = depression or mental illness. Leonard is authentic. The interviewer is on a different wavelength. She is clueless.
