I use the NYXL 9-46's and love them. I immediately noticed that it was easier to bend these strings verses the Ernie Ball's I had used previously. And they last much longer so in some sense justifies the higher price.

Elixir Nanowebs here for 15+ years and counting. Having about 20 guitars at any given time, Elixirs have been a godsend, since no matter how long they sit on a guitar, they always feel like new. I personally love the slippery feel of them. The production issues the manufacturer has been having is a real bummer. I've tried several other coated and uncoated strings and none of them feel "right" to me. I guess I could get used to a regular set, but hopefully I won't have to, since luckily I had stocked up on Elixirs before the pandemic. The only thing I'm really missing at the moment are the bigger wound strings, mainly .068. Oh yeah, Harley Benton also offers coated strings for the price of your standard Ernie Ball set. In my experience, in my experience they're pretty good as well. Might be worth checking out, for shits an giggles if nothing else. Thanks for the quality content Leon, your vids always puts a smile on my face! 🤘

I’ve been playing D’Addario strings for 30 years. I recently switched to NYXL‘s and really love them. I’m in a cover band giging just about every week. We cover a wide range of songs and that’s where I think the NYXL’s really shine. I could be playing a Marshall for one song and then a very clean tone for the next and they perform well in any setting. They definitely stay in tune longer than any string I’ve ever used.

If you like the coated feel, you should try wiping them down with mineral oil. It's the same thing that's in FastFret but going to be way cheaper just to buy the mineral oil directly. Just use an old rag or doll to wipe it on. It gives a nice slick feel to the strings and keeps them from getting crusty as quickly.

NYXL's are my fav strings, imo they last longer (tone and feel wise) - The only drawback is that I find them to be somewhat more "stiff" than a normal set of D'addarios, so instead of a normal 10-46 set, I prefer the 9-46 set for standard tuning on a 25.5 scale length guitar.

The NYXL's do seem to have more tension than XL's, but it's weird in that it doesn't change my action, relief or even my tremolo angle. I can feel there is extra tension, but it doesn't seem to pull more on the tremolo springs.

I use the 8 string NYXL (.010 - .074, minus the .064 string) on a 7 string tuned to G standard. Great, stable strings for low tuning, but I've been burned on a couple packages. First one was on a local gig, warm and slightly humid, but nothing out of the ordinary. Re-strung the day before and noticed all strings had small tarnish marks. Thought nothing of it, pre stretched them and played the show. The string were muddy trash after. Near the end of a 45 min set I was constantly needing to tune. Thought it was strange, but not entirely uncommon. Next was in the studio. Re-strung and noticed the same tarnish pattern, hmmm. Again I was fighting tuning and they were done after day one. Put on a fresh set and was a million times better. My theory is that if the string ends poke through the thin plastic anti-tarnish packaging and sit on the shelf at the store for a bit it could compromise the string set. D'Addario is one of the better quality control companies, so I don't think its on their production end. This is also 2 out of maybe 100 sets. Still, the doubt seed has been planted and is kind of a disappointment needing to buy 2 or more sets at a time knowing that one might be a dud.

I switched from using Ernie Ball Slinkys for over 20 years to D'Addario NYXLs about 6 years ago, and I noticed a dramatic difference myself. The definitely last longer on my guitars, not sounding dead compared to Slinkys so I go longer between string changes and I think I have maybe broken one string between all the string changes and guitar I own with NYXLs in the last 6 years. I just put a D'Addario XS set on guitar and those may be the ones you want for that silky coated feel similar to Elixer, because I can definitely feel the coating on the XS set vs my guitars strung with NYXLs.

Hey Leon, Paul from Brisbane. I've used the NTXLs a few times, they do stay bright and feel 'premium' - a bit different from my usual EB Super Slinkys. Fair comments and given the heat and humidity of a Brisbane summer, changing more often means I go with the EBs more often than not. Good content as usual.

They were my favourite, and for sure on 6-7 string. But I use juststrings or something from the US, for my 8 as custom gauge due to double drop D# (I think that's the term? D# standard for 6 strings, then a G# 7th and D# 8th). Getting the custom strings for right tension is amazing.

I've always been a D'Addario XL120 9-46 user on all my electrics. I got a set of NYXL's for my PRS McCarty and immediately noticed how bright they were. They have lasted a very long time, but I wipe my strings down after every play with string cleaner. Back to back, the NYXL's stay fresher, longer than the XL120's over 6-9 months of use. They also feel a bit stiffer than the 120's, but that may be all in my head. Great video as usual. God bless and rock on 👍😎🎸

I used regular XL 10s for literally decades. Tried a set of NYXLs. My immediate take was this different alloy felt like it was at a higher tension than the m standard XLs. The other immediate takeaway was that I lost just a hair off the high frequencies, but these were FAR louder with more signal output than the XLs. I really like the consistent bark they have. I did, however drop a guage to the 9s, which are great and don't feel too slinky like standard 9s. My highly subjective 2¢.

I've never tried the Elixr's on an Electric guitar, I use them exclusively on my acoustics. But for my electrics i switched from XL'x to the NYXL's when they came out and I've never looked back. They stay in tune , they resist breakage especially on guitars with trems, and they keep their tone for a long long time! Keep playing them and see. I'll wager you could keep them on that guitar for the next 3-4 months and still not tell the difference from today. When they start to fall out of tune regularly it's time to change them. And that my friend, is a long time form now!

I have been using Elixir .009 - 042 gauge on a Jackson DK2S for years, and I love them. I have been gigging a lot in Spain where it's usually hot, humid and sweaty, but they never rust and just a quick wipe with a microfibre cloth after the gig leaves them nice and clean. Hiya, from 1979 to 2010 I had only every used Ernie Ball Super Slinkys, the pink packs 9-42, and I swore by them. I did dabble with 8s but the high E always broke too often and easily. So I went back the 9s and they are always reliable, sound great and rarely break. In 2010 I bought a Schecter Damian Elite 7 FR from San Francisco and had it shipped to me herein the UK. It cam with D'Addario EXL120-7s on. I'd never heard of these at the time and I thought I'd never change, but I really loved these strings. How they felt, how they sounded and to the extent that I then changed to them on all my guitars. Std and D tuned 6 strings EXL120/EXL110s and the equivalent in 7 strings. Even my acoustic I changed to the EJ10 80/20 Phosphor Bronze which I still use. I'd say about 2014 I heard about the NYXLs however they cost 3 times the price of a standard EXL pack and I just wasn't sure about them. Are they that good? Are they worth the money? One of my sons bought me a set for Xmas that year and I put them on my main guitar on Boxing Day. Now I played that guitar every day and in about 10 gigs and only after 9 months did just start to lose their ringing. I was totally amazed as I normally had to change strings every other gig. And as before, I then converted all my guitars over the NYXLs. I absolutely love them. I record and play live with them all the time. I do, however, find it best to buy them in multipacks as you get better deals. I'll get a 25 set touring pack one day!! lol Greta stuff 😀

Trying D'Addario after Ernie Ball's standard strings seem to be suffering a period of poor quality. I went through 3 packs of Ernie Balls within 3 months with only 2-3 days of playing per week. In every case one of the lower strings snapped, so now I'm checking out the D'Addario's and I'm pleased to hear such good things about them. Kinda disappointed about Ernie Ball dropping the ball, but if it turns me on to a string I'm more satisfied with, I'll take it as a blessing

I’ve been using the NYXL since they came out, and bounce to the Earnie Ball Paradigm just to compare. I think they’re about the same, they last a lot longer than other strings I’ve tried. In many years I think I had one NYXL break on one of my guitars and that was by someone who borrowed the guitar and was deliberately trying to break it, and he’ll never touch one of my guitars again. Anyway, I think the NYXL are worth the money and if I can’t find them then I’ll use the Paradigms.

I've used normal D'Addario XLs since the 80s and was lucky enough to get some sets of NYXLs to try before they came out... at the time I didn't like them. However over the past couple of years they have become my go to string on all instruments. I use 10s on the PRS / LPs and 9s on guitars with a locking trem. As others have noted they do seem to have a little more tension than standard XLs or EBs. One thing to note, I got a Tremonti this year that came with the new PRS Signature strings (made by D'Addario I believe). I really liked them so I picked up a few sets and have found I really like them a lot. I have them on my 3 PRS guitars at the moment... they are similar to NYXLs but a little less midrange, they just seem a little warmer if that makes sense. If you get a chance check them out on the 245, they are about the same price as NYXLs.

I have used NYXL a few times and really liked them. But I also had a few sets of Curt Mangan strings I won a while back and have been using those, and really haven't noticed a huge difference. Then again I don't gig so that does make a difference. I have used Kalium strings as well, which are pretty decent and with the added bonus you can custom order single strings or custom sets instead of having to "settle" for gauges in the standard packs. Again not a huge benefit for standard tunings, but if you experiment with weird tunings it is pretty useful.

I tested everything .10 and .11 from Elixir and knows d'Addario strings very well. It's mainly a question of preferences. I prefer the waxy feel from Elixir mainly due to the coating, but I don't like the way the steel ages, feels bulky after around 40 hours of practice (some like, some don't and some don't even notice it). NYXL strings bring s a nicer coherence on the fretboard radius feel, the balance of tension is a bit better, but like every high carbon steel string set, the alloy gets really stiff after a while, as there's no coating there's more inharmonics on the pick attack.

I kinda got that from your video, new strings unfamiliar feel etc… I also realized while watching this video that I have not actually paid for most of the sets of strings I used over the past few years. The thing that I like most is that I don’t change my strings often. Once they feel gritty or loose tone, I change them but they do last a while. BTW … love your channel 😎👍

I don't want to use anything else these days. I unlike a lot of players, don't like brand new fresh strings. I prefer them to settle in after a day or two. Than there in there sweet zone for me. I do keep them on a while depending how they play and sound. I've never always put a fresh set on for gigs. That means they wouldn't be in there sweet zone. I have pretty dry hands though and don't rust through strings. I have a buddy who was also a bandmate at a point who simply touches strings one time and they rust overnight. If I couldn't get any more Nano's, I might try the D'addario's myself. 👍

They sound and feel much better than the Ernie balls in my opinion and they last about twice as long. Ernie calls aren’t bad I just always found they only had the new string affect for about a week where the NYXL I find has it got atleast about 3 weeks to a month depending on how much you play of course. I'm lucky in that I don't have corrosive sweat so that's a nonfactor for me. I play regular D'addario's and I'll do pure nickel on an extra bright guitar to tone it down a notch. My strings tend to last a while. I used to change before every gig, but not anymore.

Nyxl user here. Mainly bought them because of convenience/used to the gauges(11-56/12-60). Only ever tried ernie ball but one time they break on me right out the pack. The eb paradigm was sweet though but again, mostly convenience/availability.

I tried elixir nanowebs like 15 years ago but quickly noticed it'd be a very expensive decision, because I had the coating flake between the pickups from picking way before they were worn out by left hand. I was a bit disappointed, because I wanted to use them for the convenience. I've had a NYXL set in the shelf forever but I have this rule for which guitars get ernie balls and which get d'addario (ernies sound more harmonically rich and suit rock and other genres well to me, while d'addario sound more focused and bright in the way that suits metal), so I haven't gotten around to evaluate my opinion on these.

If I were touring I would be using any reasonable brand that would except an endorsement as they will be changed every day. When doing the odd gig here and there I would use NYXLs. What I like about them...in addition to all they claim is that they don't sound overly bright initially then decline after. They seem to stay tonally consistent throughout their life span.

I love the NYXL's...I have terrible sweaty hands, and the concept of the Elixirs (..or any coated strings) sound nice, but when it comes down to tone, they souind a bit dead out of the gate..So, they last a long time, but they sound dull/dead from the strat. The NYXL's last longer than standard strings, not as long as Elixirs...The NYXL's just sound a bit "fuller"..like a beefire thicker string with more flex...Strings are like ice cream flavors..Which ever works best for you.. : )

As a teenager I played a lot of D'Addarios. In the last years, I tried Ernies and got stocked. But, recently, I tried Harley Bentons and, for a fraction of the price, they are just unbeatable. Every time I order from Thomann I just get a batch of strings. I mean, we're talking 1.50 € for a standard 6 strings set and about 5 € for a bass set.

I break a lot of strings so I've tried a ton so mainly use EB reinforced steel most of the time. Tried NYXL and broke the B on the 2nd day. Never tried them again. I also like EVH strings, they don't seem to break as much. I've bought elixir and guess I didn't notice or forgot so I'll have to see if I have a set or can find one and test again. You got my curiosity going!

I used to use DR strings and those always lasted me a long time, until sometime in 2017 when they would start rusting within 2 weeks every time. After trying what seemed like every string brand under the sun including D'addario NYXLs, Elixirs were the only strings that stayed fresh for months, and like you I actually like the coated feeling. I hear a lot of good things about the NYXLs but for me they rusted and went dead pretty quickly.

I thought that was just me! I used to love DR electric and acoustic strings, especially the round-core strings. Then one summer (2017, coincidentally) I started having weird issues I never had before, like wraps slipping off the cores in several sets. Happened especially with the D-string. Once it happened on a few consecutive sets, I gave them up.

NYXL's are definitely the best strings I've ever used. And yes,....I've used damn near all of them. The Elixir strings I dislike very much. Primarily because of the fraying under the pick that takes place over time. Not to mention the $50 price tag. And yes the NYXL's are far superior,...imo,...to regular Ernie Ball slinkys. Now the Paradigm's are pretty good. NYXL's last a very long time as well. If you keep them wiped.

I have been playing Ernie Ball Hybrid for a long time. I would get 2 shows out of them. This also included any time spent noodling around at home. If I pushed them for a 3rd, they would start to snap. So I got in the habit of changing them after 2 shows. Recently, they have been breaking at home after one show. I don't know what's up. I'm ready to explore some other options.

I've used the same Ernie Ball strings for ages. Usually RPS 10s. Sometimes Power Slinky 11s. I've been considering the new Turbo Slinky 9.5 (based on Pete Thorn comments), but I'm really bad about changing strings with any sort of regularity. I need to come up with some sort of system so I can easily remember what strings I have on a particular guitar and when I put them on. Perhaps a white sticker on the back of the headstock and a dry-erase marker?
