Leopards would not go after kill that big! At most they would go after a sick calf! Indeed the water buffalo was thanking the leopard for giving him the heads up on that hyena! All the animals work together to protect each other regardless if they like each other or not! That's why you can see giraffes mixed with impalas, zebras and water buffalos while hyenas, leopards and lions circle!

@@fredrika27 It does happen though Frederika. There are videos on youtube of leopards attacking buffalo. I don't know if they ever succeed with an adult but they are obviously a threat. The look that passed between the animals seemed to me similar though not exactly the same as the look of truce you sometimes see in times of drought at a waterhole.

@@luckydave328 I'm not denying that it wouldn't happen. I'm just saying leopards are not pride oriented rather they are solitary animals. As such they really have to think about what type of pray they will take down because they don't eat in packs rather up in trees. If the leopard 🐆 took a water buffalo down, then she would have to take her chances losing it because she could only bite off a hunch and put it in a tree. While she would be gone, lions, vultures, hyenas and even other leopards would help themselves! The leopard couldn't fight off such a hoard even if she wanted to! Hence why an impala, African rabbit, or baboon/chimp would be a more tasty dinner! A leopard can more easily drag such a bounty up into a tree 🌳 to eat and later to bury! I do agree with you that there are truces among various animals. As long as the leopard is busy raising her young and hunting, she along with her cubs are not a threat to the water buffalo. Indeed the water buffalo depends on the leopard and cheetah because their vision is better and they both have some of the same enemies: the lions and hyenas!

Hyenas are larger and stronger than leopards, and their necks in particular are extremely thick and capable of withstanding even lions biting at them, not to mention other hyenas. There is a reason the leopard fled to the trees, and no it has nothing to do with teaching.
