Jilime female leopard eats a banded mongoose in the shade. Newly independent leopards in the Mara seem to make a habit of catching mongoose as they perfect their skills before moving onto bigger prey as they become more confident.

A leopard will eat just about anything. This young leopardess is perfecting her technique with rodents and baby jackals, but will soon graduate to bigger prey, if she hasn't already.

The female tiger does not accept the stinky smell of ferret meat. She tries to eat out of hunger, but her instinct prevents her from eating greedily.

Maybe its about the mongose smell that makes the young leapord unsure whether to eat it. Back here in Sabah Borneo the species have stinking smell that even dogs avoid them.

Mongoose are not rodents. They are part of the weasel family tree. Predators by nature and fearless.

Size is not the factor here, speed is. The leopard had to use a lot of energy to catch the prey.

Mongoose are also not at all closely related to weasels. Weasels are on the dog side of the carnivore family tree (Caniforma superfamily) and mongoose on the cat side (Feliforma superfamily).

She just eats it to stay herself alive and energetic too hard to find good meaty parts from this small prey

The leopard took its time before finally tucking in. Might it have been confused by the mongoose' thick fur which needed to be removed so that the leopard could get to the meat, Rob? It still didn't seem all that sure about its kill.
