Give your geckos a big pool(but not big enough to drown) with water to drink.My geckos is just walking through it (I don't know if they're doing this with reason, or they're too lazy to walk around the bow)...oh,and don't forget to leave the water for 12/14 h. before filling the bow (for drinking).

I literally just came from petco because I needed some crickets while I wait for a shipment of dubias etc. And the girl I spoke with watches you too (yep, we bonded over that and the love for our geckos) but when I saw their leo enclosures I asked her why are they on sand?! She hates it so much too, but they will not let her swap it. Corporate dictates they must be on sand. This is unbelievable. They are lucky enough to have an employee that is knowledgeable and then they put this corporate bs over her. It's sad. And of course it drives her mad. So, that said, if anyone were to get a gecko from petco (of course most of us will agree to not even do that in the first place and get a reptile from a chain pet store) but if someone does, it very likely may already be impacted so keep that in mind.

I was going to get a leopard gecko from petco, but they didn't have any and I went somewhere else. I hadn't watched the video on pet o before so I didn't know. I love my gecko even though I've only had them for a day! But it's unbelievable the conditions of those geckos there.

there’s a petco nearby me and it seem that the woman who is most likely in chargw of the reptile section is doing a very good job. the leos have correctly sized mealworms with supplementa, good substrate, heat mat, thermostat, hides, not too many bunched together, etc. i was very happy to see that for a petco they were doing a good job

You definitely don't have to be rich. I'm actually poor. I literally have zero income since this crisis started. I've used my savings and the fact that I never purchase something for myself other than maybe vape juice or coils, all my money goes 1. To my child 2. To my pets. And you have to thoroughly research your prices. There can be variations of 20 dollars or more when you are looking at T5 hoods for example. And the little things add up too. Check pangea, they have good prices! Depending on where you are (EU or US) you will find some places that have things a lot cheaper, you may just need to be more patient due to them having to ship it instead of you walking into a brick and mortar store. I tried to get the best of the best for my gecko, if it was out of my budget I tried to find other things to get him the best possible I could for the money I had. But you don't have to go out and do a full bioactive setup right away, that is expensive, trust me, I spent over 300 dollars already and I'm not done. You can get your gecko what it needs and some on a budget. It is possible.

Brilliant video! I have been experimenting making my own caves with polyurethane pink foam. It glues well, it carves well, paints well, and it is strong but light. I made different shapes, sizes, and different hole cutout patterns. What I noticed is that my LG, when offered two hides both partially over the heat tape, chooses the cave with two openings. I even painted the inside of a 2-hole cave a beige color on the inside, and a single-hole cave black on the inside, thinking it would prefer the dark inside. The LG still picked the 2-hole cave. The best design seems to be a medium hole on one end or side and a bit smaller hole on the other, with enough hide length to not be seen between the exits. Then I saw your video here, and you talked about the two-hole hide. My guess is that they instinctively like an escape route. Just guessing here of course. Would be interesting to test this on many LGs and see if there is truly a pattern. Anyway, great job on your video (as always..)

Hi! I just wanted to thank you very quickly and add a hack of my own. If you remember wayy long ago back in the summer, my gecko Lemon escaped, was found, and had black grime all on her feet. It came off after her shed, and she is now fat and happy, so thanks! And as for hacks, if you buy your gecko or other animal for that matter at a reptile show, keep the deli cup, cut a hole in it, cover/smooth out the hole, and voila, you have a free hide!

My leopard gecko NEVER leaves her moist hide - ever! Occasionally I catch her out of a morning but all day she goes into her moist hide. If I take it out, she paces around looking for it and won't stop until I put it back in! Very strange behaviour, but if geckos frequently get attached to hides like mine has, maybe the anecdote of the gecko and the log is just a similar case?
@Zuxeh
@Zuxeh 7 жыл бұрын
That is not a problem at all guys, wild Leopard Geckos commonly seek damp microclimates in which to spend the day asleep (presumably due to the otherwise arid climate they live in) and given the choice of a suitably placed and constructed moist hide will almost always choose to use that. 11/12 of my Leos currently only sleep in their moist hides. Its worth noting however, having a moist hide on the cool side is close to pointless in terms of providing the Gecko a hide that it will use a lot, always have it on the warm side where possible.
@JTBReptiles
@JTBReptiles 7 жыл бұрын
Shane Thanks! I've got mine on the warm side, used to have it on the cold side but she stopped eating when it was like that. I'll add moss to the other hides and see what happens. That information makes a lot of sense; my gecko has only gained this habit after I moved her into her Exo Terra which maintains a lower humidity. Also where've you been recently Shane, I've missed your input! Nice to see you're still around!

so, my brother has two Darling Leopard geckos, and I adore them. They're cute, and they were just so sweet when we got them, and I loved them. it's been a year. They are skinny, inactive, and, though not actively aggressive, they do bite. My mom won't let me do much with them, I can't buy them food, I can't change their cage around, I can't even get onto my brother about not handling them without her explaining away their poor treatment! "He's just eleven" well maybe two geckos weren't the best first pet then! I get so mad about it, but I don't know what to do...any advice?
@fionashepley478
@fionashepley478 7 жыл бұрын
You say they're skinny. Is it due to not feeding them enough or is it possible they have parasites? If you think it's the latter, they need to get to the vet ASAP. I'm guessing they're housed together, are they both female and about the same size?

Why are you asking us for advice, this is a family issue which we have no control over sadly. You need to tell your mother she is being abusive to allow these animals to continue to be tresyed this way, perhaps show her some of these videos. If she doesn't listen, I agree with the other comment to sneak in and steal them. Give them away to someone!!! Tell her they got out. What a sad situation you are in! Maybe approach your 11 yr old brother and tell him how into geckos you are and maybe he will let you help out??

Hi if I wanted to put a small lake/pond in a gecko tank for an adult but also have enough land hot and cold sides do you think that would be ok for them or dangerous? I was looking at a beautiful tank with enough land and had a small lake/pond with a stream and thought it would be more interesting for when my geckos get older, they could go for a small swim, but wanted to make sure. Might be getting two geckos either May or June and thought when they get older what I want their tank to look like. Thank you and have a wonderful day/night.😊😊😊

He does drink from the water and when I spray water in the for the humidity he drinks the water from the glass. I can hold him now!!

After watching literally all of your videos over the corse of 1 year I then went out and brought my leopard gecko Leo. I've had him 3 days now and he is already really tame and has been eating since the first day! On day 1 he didn't really like me he was Abit skittish and on the second day I sat with my hand in the tank for about 45 mins and he was just exploring and licking me and then today I placed my hand in the tank and he ran straight over and laid on my hand for about 10 mins before running back off! I have learnt a lot watching these videos even down to substrate and calcium! I got Leo from pets at home and they were brilliant suggesting I use either kitchen towel, eco earth or Repti carpet with 1 moist hide 1 cold and 1 moist they told me everything I need to know and even in the tank Leo was in the had a calcium dish in the corner and mealworms dusted in powders and they said it was essential... personally I think they were brilliant infact so much better than the breaded I got my snake from! Hope this helps people if they were looking in the uk where to get a healthy Leo from

Heat mats are not a good heat source. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option. They produce Infrared A and B like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than heat mats. Whereas heat mats only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin. Also, log hides aren’t great since they’re pretty exposed and don’t really hide the gecko. Fully enclosed hides like caves are ideal.
@froggysgaming3391

I have a cave hide in my enclosure but my gecko barely goes in there he likes big hides where he doesn’t have to be squashed, Also in this video it says that log hides are goood so the. Heat can come through and two open sides and she even have a log hide in her terrariums aswell but thank you for the advice :)

Thank you so much! I just got my first Leopard Gecko yesterday (after lots of careful research and a year or so of thinking to ensure it's really what I wanted) and he is already super tame and active thanks to a great breeder, but when I put him in his cage he didn't want to go in his warm hide or explore. We switched the log with the cave so that the log was on the warm side, and he now loves both hides. Thank you! My new buddy (yet to be named) thanks you :)

Make sure all of the hides fully hide the gecko. Half logs are too exposed. They shouldn’t have to choose between security and thermoregulation.

For number five I do that, my gecko has fake grass as bedding and she poops in one corner, so I put paper towel the in that corner and surround it by rocks so it is hard to see from the outside of the tank and and doesn't compromise the natural look I'm going for :D
@fionashepley478
@fionashepley478 4 жыл бұрын
Fake grass isn’t a great substrate. Paper towel, non-adhesive shelf liner, or textured tile are all good solids. It’s best to offer digging enrichment with reptisoil, organic top soil, or a bioactive substrate. You could do full loose, half and half, or full solid with a dig box
