Leopard geckos don’t need full tank humidity, just the one warm/humid hide. Full tank humidity over 40% will probably cause a respiratory infection in your gecko. On the other hand, your gecko is such a cutie :)

Ive had leopardgeckos (about 30 of them in total now) on coconut husk/eco earth for over 10 years now and never had a problem. If you fear them getting to much when they eat (because they jump on the food) feed mealworms in a dish. If you feeding crickets, you can always have a seperate feeding box with paper towels or something. But like I said, never had any issues but I guess its depends on your gecko. Ive seen them getting some in their mouth, but they always spit it out. Never use sand and I'm not a big fan of the carpets out there. Ive seen way to many geckos losing claws/fingers because they get stuck on the fibers when attacking food. So I would always go for paper towels for young geckos, and husk/eco earth for semi adults/adults.

I Have a baby and at the moment shes on paper towels when she is older i want to put her on echo earth it is safe I've done lots of research if the gecko eats way too much of it yes it could be a problem but a little won't hurt and will pass through easily sand is the only main worrie because when it gets wet it sticks together but eco earth doesn't so it is ok but I wouldn't recomend loose substrates for baby's
@OliveDeuce6 жыл бұрын
paige casey well eco earth is way more natural than paper towel... I’ve never put my babies on paper towels. I’ve had kaiser since he was a day old, he’s always been on eco earth. Geckos like to dig around, they can’t dig in paper towels. If you were a gecko which one would you want to have? I’ve always hated how people used paper towels the only way I’d use them is if their substrate needed cleaned and I had none left
@paigecasey28236 жыл бұрын
Olive Shupe yeah I know they arnt the best but in nz ist hard to find echo earth I'm going to change it to that one day but not while she's still a baby I once put moss in her humid hid she even ate that and got compacted not sure why tho so yeah that's just my opinion but I was telling everyone that is is safe and standing up for you sooo??
@tylerdowsey59535 жыл бұрын
Olive Shupe As much as Geckos dig, I wouldn’t exactly say they like it. Most of the time when Geckos are ‘digging’ they are actually just moving their substrate around to either find heat, or find a cooler spot. Most of the time they are actually just kicking around and testing out the area around them. You say it’s way more natural but in actual fact their habitats outside of captivity are made up of rocky terrain and tight packed clay, in the wild they don’t dig much, plain and simple because they can’t. The climate they originated from (Pakistan, Iran, Iraq ect) isn’t exactly bone dry, but it definitely isn’t that moist either. Also, as far as saying that you wouldn’t put your Leos on paper towel when they are baby’s, it IS a safer option. People generally put their Leos on white paper towel to ensure they are going to the toilet regularly, and because it’s a hundred times easier to see if there are any issues/inconsistencies with their excrement. So before you judge someone for not keeping their leopard gecko on dirt like you do, consider that they may do it to keep the baby Leo safe. Other people may also slowly introduce their baby Leos to different substrate other than that of paper towel after insuring that the baby is healthy and well. 🙂🙂

This is a desert animal we are not trying to keep humidity
@OliveDeuce6 жыл бұрын
Kyle Cowperthwaite that is false. They are not desert animals. They live in a rockier climate. Humidity is nessacary. Also the spray imitates rain. The whole “desert kit” for leopard geckos is deadly. Saying they are desert reptiles would mean they need a basking lamp, sand , etc, which both those things are terrible for leopard geckos.

@MinecraftRex165 жыл бұрын
Humidity Leopard geckos are desert animals, so they need a fairly dry environment to stay healthy. Ideal humidity will be between 30%-40%, which should match the humidity naturally in your home. Housing your gecko in a terrarium with a screen top or equivalent ventilation will help keep it dry.

1. Leopard Geckos should not have eco earth as substrate. It is not their natural environment. 2 . That is way too much substrate 3 . Leopard Geckos do not need, or should not have too much humidity 4 . That is way too much decorations for a Leopard gecko, and is not suitable for their actual natural environment 5 . The reason she is freaking out is because there is so much stuff. Please do actual research over leopard geckos. If I were a "rater", I'd rate this terrarium 2/5 stars. Its unsuitable for a leopard gecko and just is flat out horrible. Only the terrarium is good. When I say terrarium, I mean without everything in it.

Kool-Aid Connolly how is it unsustainable when they are clearly thriving lol? My geckos are very happy and alert and healthy. She was freaking out bc I left her in a tank while taking all her hides out? I think any gecko would, she had nowhere to hide, and then I brought her to a new enviorment. She’s fine now. Obviously

Sand isn't
@crisp-y24787 жыл бұрын
Lizards Girl there really is no difference between your reptile swallowing eco earth or sand. if they do that that's the owners fault for not providing adequate nutrition. leopard geckos live originally in the wild in rocky areas not necessarily covered in sand, but definitely covered in soft moss-like material. it's so hypocritical when someone says it's ok to use eco earth and not sand.
@OliveDeuce7 жыл бұрын
They say us eco earth bc when eco earth gets wet, it expands and is able to be digested. BUt when sand gets wet, it clumps together which is the whole impaction thing. Look for the video on Leopard Gecko's channel she explains it very well.And my geckos accidentally consume the eco earth all the time when hunting, they are perfectly healthy lmao.

Olive Shupe impaction can take months to take place, id get a piece of slate in the tank, my gecko is fed on that and he also made a den out of the eco earth below the slate where he usually sleeps. i use eco earth as a substrate but my gecko is fed on a slate tile.

Yes the do, they need moist hides. The moist hides help them when they shed

Some geckos like to lick the dew drops instead of drinking out of a bowel to drink. I've seen mine do both ways. And yes you need to keep in moist in the tank or at least in the moist hide during shedding.
