Terrence Mann, Broadway's original Javert, returns to the role toward the end the first run of 'Les Miserables' nearly 16 years later.
Please no requests for other clips from this show and don't link to it. This is just here to represent. It will be all that I am posting and I'd rather not have it zapped from existence again. Thank you.

Man, I'd love to see the full recording featuring Terrence Mann as Javert. The man's fantastic in this role.

If you ever have a chance to listen to the recording from the original Broadway cast, he's in it. I first listened to it 30 years ago (and about 1,000 times since!) and he will always be my favorite Javert.

That entrance is just amazing! For the first five minutes of this video you're watching people perform Les Mis on Broadway - then Terrence Mann shows up and you are watching Javert on the streets of 19th-century Paris. He completely embodies the role and it's a little bit terrifying.

Except jalvert isn't an upper classman. He's a peasant who was born in a jail to a pregnant thief. He was raised in an orphanage. He was raised by people who took a very hardline view on criminals, and was raised to believe that crime was never an option, and that it was better to die than to break the law, and this is the entire basis of his personality. I would say that there is also a certain level of hatred towards his mother as well, due to the fact that if she hadn't turned to crime, he might have had a family.

I love these old videos of Terrence in the role. All of the current Javerts cosplay the brilliant Phillip Quast and it’s nice seeing the characters original interpretation. That said, the rest of this cast seems sleepy and phoned in. No wonder it was closing.

Shows that I cry for having missed: 1. The original Broadway Les Mis. 1a. Terence Mann's reprise as Javert. Gods he's SO AMAZING. I mean, I became a Mann addict watching him in a second-rate subplot (that ended up completely ludicrously) on "Another World" in 1987, when he was just picking up some cash between performances. His brilliant "Law & Order" turn as the animal-rights lawyer in "Whose Monkey Is It Anyway?" is a masterpiece of pained nuance. And when you add that singing voice…zing-zing-zing go the strings of my heart. So glad some of this record survives. I mean, I'm MORE psyched about this than seeing Mandy Patinkin as Che in the original B'Way "Evita"…and I was pretty stoked for that. (But I actually *saw* Mandy on Broadway…I've only heard the soundtrack for Mann before.)

Jessica Roth I’m hoping someday that they’ll crack open the Broadway vaults and release those original vids of some of the classics. I’ve heard Terry sing ‘Stars’ live and I’ve heard Colm Wilkinson sing ‘Bring Him Home’ live, and need a time machine to be able to go back and see them perform together. Agree on TM’s voice and acting presence. Can’t be beat. He was aces as Degas in the recent production of ‘Marie: Dancing Still’ in Seattle. Here’s hoping for another Broadway show under his belt.

@@scipwraec when did you see terry and when did you see Colm? In any case they definitely made a recording of the original cast so I badly wish they’d release it. Fingers crossed the Hamilton release will inspire more productions to release Broadway videos!

@@caleb1413 I saw Terry in a concert in Utah where he performed ‘Stars’ several years ago, and Colm singing his best songs in Calgary for a Christmas concert. Got to visit with both and snag autographs too. :) Only time I’ve seen Colm live, but I’ll make the trip anywhere Terry takes up a new show. Both men have stellar voices and stage presence.
