I’m glad you haven’t replaced your culture because you changed your faith. I am a muslim and it pains me if reverts think they have to absolve themselves of their culture that is a part of their ancestral history. Of course you cannot drink alcohol or eat pork. However you can perfectly combine Islam the faith and YOUR culture. The faith binds the ummah and your culture binds you to your ancestral history. Wonderful story. MaashAllah

The first person to do the Azan (Muslim Prayer) was a black man.. The Prophet Muhammad )Peace Be Upon Him) adopted Mother was a black Woman. The Prophet liberated women from slavery, gave them equal rights, reformed slavery, taught people to feed them and cloth them and see them as your brothers; The bible states hit your slaves and flog them and much more terrible things which are in the bible, hence one of the reasons I lost my faith in that religion.

She seems a nice enough young lady. O.K. convert no problem. I did worry when her 5 year old daughter was shouting sin at the T.V. when people were obviously dressed in Western clothes. She should have made a point to her daughter this is not our way but there is nothing in the way other people dress. My point really how will her daughter grow up? Will she be shouting sin at us for other things we do that are not Islamic?

Moh Ali Well at the end of the day its always the women that converts in these relationships, you never hear of the man converting to the woman's religion and fine some women don't convert but if they have children all the children will be muslin and the household is ruled as a Muslim household so whether she converts or not, she will be living a Muslim live and raising Muslim children. and there's no point in saying its a sin to convert from your religion if you are a Muslim cause iv heard it all before, its always the non Muslim partner that converts to the Muslim faith.

Two things. She like many others before has mixed up Catholicism with Christianity. I'm a Christian and don't go to confession with a priest. That isn't how it works and how the Catholic church has got it wrong. No harm confessing your sins to your close friends but it is not essential. Second point is she really missed the point of Christianity if she thinks the two faiths are similar. Christianity is based on Jesus Christ being our salvation and our only saviour. Nothing else can save us.

Johnny big The dealings of the Prophet, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, with other religions can best be described in the verse of the Quran: “To you be your religion, to me be mine.” The Arabian Peninsula during the time of the Prophet was a region in which various faiths were present. There were Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians, polytheists, and others not affiliated with any religion. When one looks into the life of the Prophet, one may draw on many examples to portray the high level of tolerance shown to people of other faiths. In order to understand and judge this tolerance, one must look into the period in which Islam was a formal state, with the specific laws laid down by the Prophet in accordance with the tenets of religion. Even though one can observe many examples of tolerance shown by the Prophet in the thirteen years of his stay in Mecca, one may incorrectly think that it was only due to seeking to raise the profile of the Muslims and the social status of Islam and in general. For this reason, the discussion will be limited to the period which commenced with the migration of the Prophet to Medina, and specifically once the constitution was set.

@irishxxkelt The same argument could be echoed back at any peoples following an ancient religion. The islamic peoples contributed a lot to the world- things we take for granted, they instituted. I don't think there's anything wrong with them, or their faith. I just think the media has and agenda against them- or else the LRA and Holy Spirit movement would be higher on our "to do" list, than the Taliban.

For your information my parents are Irish (Cork). I was born in Ireland too. I turned to Islam when I was visiting Syria, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. I studied the Koran and the faith and it gave me the answers that Christianity and other religions did not. Am an educated woman too and I study history at University, so I can make my own mind. Its true that folks such as you made English control us, because your a turn-coat. You should stick up for oppressed folks as we were oppressed too.

Exactly BEFORE Islam. Salavery existed BEFORE Islam and before the Prophets time. The Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) reformed this and exalted one of the slaves to the house of Kabba to do the Azan. The bible never did anything to resolve slavery, infact they used it to enslave Africans and other people for centuries.
