Your music reminds me of my late father who is also an artist. He loves to listen to music when he paints. Classical, jazz, standards, local Classic music etc. Which is something from being an artist is something I also inherited from him. He was also a musician.

Yes, I enjoy soft jazz best when painting...love music nearly as much as painting. I've got a piano, two guitars, a banjo, dulcimer, according, trumpet...

Thank you Stan, your instructional video is so helpful. Wish I had a teacher like you when I first started painting watercolours. Your portraits are amazing and I love the colours that you use on the face, so different from what I am used to so will keep watching and hopefully have the courage to give it a go. Cant thank you enough for giving so much of your time to help those of us who struggle to improve with just practice. When I started painting my teacher just gave me a very simple painting with some written instructions. After doing several of those we were on our own. He did say to me once that I fly by the seat of my pants but didn't show me where I went wrong and we never saw him paint anything.Needless to say I didn't go to him for long but wish I had seen these videos then, it would have helped me so much.

So happy to hear that my instruction, these videos are helpful. I too felt like that so many of the art teachers I had, couldn't help me...or I didn't understand their way of teaching. So, I teach the way I wish I had been taught!

@@Stanleylestermiller wow, so thrilled that you answered. I love to paint portraits but mine tend to look like the photo and what I see is what I think I have to paint. I would never think to use the colors you do but I just love your portraits. I just wish I had started with a teacher like you, would have made such a difference as I haven't found a teacher that has helped me very much, just practice has improved my paintings but they aren't exciting like yours are. Cant thank you enough. Just wish you lived in South Australia instead of the US.

Stan, You are an inspiration. I am looking forward to finding more instruction and demonstration of portraiture from you. This clip, above, is one of the most helpful I've seen on YT. Many thanks.

This is the first video in this series that I felt was non-instructional - just a few brief shots of the different stages of a painting with no indication of how each stage was arrived at.

I was disappointed since there was no painting process shown, only the results...which are spectacular! Perhaps you could re-edit the video to show more of that.

Sorry Wally, Each video I make needs to be short in length. I wanted this video to be about: 1. How to set up a model in your studio. 2. How to begin a drawing for a painting using a model. My videos show only a small portion of each stage of a painting. A lesson will be coming on how to do a more detailed portrait where you will see me painting the portrait.

Kindly request you sir please upload, full length face portrait video. So beginners can understand what is your glazing method. Specially in cheeks and forehead part. Thank you.

I have explained a number of times in my videos how to use watercolor to paint cheeks and forehead. Here is the technique I usually use when painting the face, going from a dark part of the face to a light part of the face. No need to make another video showing this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q8txgrN2utGcnas.html

Wonderful, thank you, not to nitpick, but the shaky camera is distracting and annoying.

Shame you just skipped over the really interesting parts. "Here we are after two twenty-five minute sessions." Would have been nice to see that.
