Following on from Blue Moon, Ahmad Jamal and his dream team are back with a joyful album made up of the kind of ballads to which only he holds the key. Each one is a moment of grace, shining like a star in the sky of American Classical Music -- it also features one wonderful Duke Ellington cover and a tribute to Horace Silver. With his light-fingered but rhythmic style, he sends us into a sensuous trance and leads us to a musical climax : a sound, which is pure groove.
Pour succéder à Blue Moon, Ahmad Jamal nous offre avec la même équipe de choc un album solaire, construit sur ces ballades dont il a le secret, moments de grâce suspendus au firmament de la grande Histoire de la "musique classique américaine" -- le disque contient aussi une superbe reprise de Duke Ellington et un hommage à Horace Silver. Avec son jeu à la fois rythmique et aérien, il sculpte une transe voluptueuse et nous conduit vers un sommet musical : l'épure du groove.

Can you believe how little notice he gets - practically invented acid jazz as we know it - Golson the only other I can think of still going? Never will I forget the Amsterdam Cafe Centrum jukebox playing But Not For Me, October, 1980. Notice, he never OKd the actual Bose product! As for good taste in amplification: there is that Montreux 71 LP where Jamil Suleiman has a Sound City tube stack a la Pete Townshend, just cranking out the upright bass; Extensions is the mighty track I got hooked on. But hey bronx h I want to put this to you carefully. I thought of Mr.Jamal within hours of 9/11- I think his 50th year as a convert to Islam. As you know this man was Muslim before Ali or Malcolm X. Their dignified instruction of peace & honesty, over bragging & bellicosity, which in turn is reflected in Mr Jamal's music, was swept aside starting that same day, for IMO the overreaction we IMO foolishly called, the War On Terror. It worries me that his career or travel was affected, or is still - when he represents the utmost sophistication of your country. What's your take on where '60s aims & goals - I include JFKs & MLKs - stand now?

Dang!!!!! Ahmad Jamal gonna be at Ferst Center today. I can't make it. I'd love to go hear him speak to hear him play. I'm gonna try to see him @ Kennedy Center in February

I thought this was going to be a tutorial on making music. I'm disappointed to find out it's a commercial for a speaker manufacturer.
