In the Lessons Of The Red Beads, Dr. Deming explores many of the lessons and implications drawn from what was observed. He clearly demonstrates acts such as punishing and rewarding individual workers in the system is counterproductive and pointless and the only way to improve outcome is for management to improve the system that creates that outcome. Understanding is clear that the success of a worker is directly tied to and limited by the nature of system they are working within. This is the same footage from the CEO Seminar series.

I'm in awe of the empathy he expresses while explaining the more abstract ideas of statistical process control. "How does the willing worker feel? Humiliated. I'm not needed." It seems as though he dealt with these feelings personally by how he presents this.

This man is brilliant. We have no idea how much impact he could, hear can, have on our companies today if only we would listen to his 14 points and employ them. Thank you for your contributions, Dr. Deming

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:11 📊 Understanding statistical control: Statistical control means that work stays within control limits, indicating a stable process. 02:20 💡 Workers' contribution: Workers can only contribute what the system allows, and they must follow prescribed procedures. 07:59 📈 Predicting future variation: Control limits can be used to predict future variation within a stable system. 21:12 😔 Impact of rigid procedures: Rigid procedures without worker input can lead to demoralization and reduced quality. 28:42 🚀 Setting unattainable goals: Setting unattainable goals can lead to worker demoralization and reduced quality. As a retired teacher, this just makes me sad. What is the goal of education? The product...the outcome... What are we trying to accomplish? It doesn't take 13 years - more, now, if we're bringing in universal pre-K - to teach children to read, write, and do arithmetic. Don't get me started.

The Red Beads should be required training for all in management. Fix the system folks. Don’t blame the willing workers for the failures of the system.
