I've almost wrapped up another semester of my engineering degree and I'm in the mood for some redstone engineering. In this video we focus on my perspective as I explore the problem of partially filling shulker box slots for a shop display and we learn how to tackle complex redstone problems in minecraft like a real engineer.

I tried looking into my own system like this about a year ago, but I had some issue with timings and counters. Of course my idea was a little different. It started by automatically filling a shulkerbox with 26 non-stackable items, placed in the required amount of stock items. It then took out all the non-stackable items, put 25 of them back, and repeated until all non-stackable items were replaced. It ended up being super large and would constantly drop the wrong number of items.

Pretty incredible solution, even if it's over-engineered beyond the point of usefulness. The thought process and problem-solving that go into this are very inspiring. I'd love to see your take on programmable railway systems that bring items from farms to a central storage. I've had a concept in my brain for a while now, but haven't been able to get something reasonable built to control which carts go down which lines without making a huge mess.

@Hyrum_Graff
@Hyrum_Graff Жыл бұрын
@@introprospector Depends on what you're optimizing for. If it's transit time, then yes, nothing beats an instant dropper line. But if the goal is to reduce transit operations (to load chunks less often), then a piston bolt system using stacked chest minecarts is better.
@Hyrum_Graff
@Hyrum_Graff Жыл бұрын
I used Maizuma Games' programmable minecart intersections for my player-transport system- I think they would be helpful here. You need to send destination information along with the cart somehow, be it signal strength (what I chose), pulse length, time delay to another minecart (Etho's idea), or any other signaling method. With an automated farm system, I think you'll need at least one more data line to ensure that each farm always has enough minecarts, either to request minecarts from storage, or to provide a return address for the storage-bound minecart. Now I see where the mess comes from- collision prevention. I think the sanest way to do this is basically to recreate Factorio's rail signals- have the sending farm claim the block from the farm to the first holding point or intersection, which will then claim the next block, clear the claim on the previous block, and send the minecart on, or wait if the next block is claimed. I think this requires two-way data lines between all intersections/hold points, as well as the address lines already mentioned. It's easy in Factorio because the trains do the routing, rather than the track, and the signals communicate via the rails (they detect trains).

If so, then that would mean it may be possible to simulate quantum computing inside of Minecraft

Shouldn’t there be the shop interface for customers or is this exclusively for the shop owner’s ease? How difficult would it be to have the display stock (shulker) automatically be replaced at the moment all items inside are exchanged to diamond transactions? Possibly for the customer there can be a manual restock button per slice where all items are yeeted from the display, diamonds are sorted out and the shulker is recycled back into the system. You can attach a record keeping machine. Hermitcraft is built on the trust system, but a counter can see if the number of item slots emptied per shulker correspond to its value. Ex: If the display stock of 1 diamond per 16 pistons were to be completely sold, you’d be left with a shulker with 27 diamonds inside. BUT if a customer were to manually restock the display shulker BEFORE it was completely sold, it wouldn’t break the system. Ex: If only 22 slots of display stock were sold then you’d find 80 pistons (16 pistons x 5 unsold slots) and 22 diamonds inside. Any discrepancy in counting either would be noted. You could determine stolen/missing/or unclaimed product as well as whether you’ve been underpaid, robbed, or even given extra as a tip. Just a thought, thanks.
@cubicmetre
@cubicmetre Жыл бұрын
I would not trust customers to start the machinery primarily because they are just popping in to buy stuff and they will likely just leave while the thing is running and unload it. You could add an automatic chunk loader however I would suggest that you supervise a machine to make sure it is chunkloaded before leaving the area while it's running.

Just replace the counter with a direct throughput for the signal to the dropper, that means you'd get exactly 1 item every cycle, for two items just double the pulse with a piston + observer. The counter is mainly there for when you need several items in each slot.
@HonestAuntyElle
@HonestAuntyElle Жыл бұрын
@@cubicmetre right, but I meant being able to have the entire range without modification. It's easier to swap the item counts on the fly then rebuilding sections of a contraption. Although, I guess I could keep the single item sections always in the same part of the shulkers, (like an emerald with pricing info) centred. I'm guessing if you wanted to keep a slot empty, you could fill it with yet another stackable dummy item, then suck them all out after.

Item frames send comparator updates, which is why you can read an item frame with a comparator and then spin the item in the frame to get different signal strengths.
