Some so called “ die hards” bash RATT. I actually think they don’t get proper attention. The 8️⃣4️⃣album to me is a Stone Cold classic. Tremendous album IMO. Came out when I was 2️⃣2️⃣yrs old, have many great memories/ fun/ cheerful times during this time. This was ☝️ one of the albums that when I hear to this day reminds me of those great times. When you're 10 and you see Warren DeMartini crash through the ceiling and land on some older folks' dinner party table, rip an awesome guitar solo and then point back up from where he fell to Robin Crosby who continues to play the duel part of the solo with him...yeah you'd think it's pretty damn rad too.

I was 13 years old when this came out and the video for "Round And Round" got me hooked. When Warren DeMartini came crashing through the ceiling for his solo, I was totally in. I immediately got the cassette and loved the record. "Back For More" and "Wanted Man" were great songs that followed. "Lack Of Communication" was also a major highlight, and listening back to that song now, I realized just how heavy a song that was for the time. It showed that Ratt could indeed rock. The guitar playing and production by Beau Hill are excellent. The album still stands up today, and for me, it's the band's crowning achievement. I did like their next album quite a bit, but I don't think you could legitimately say that it is better than this debut. The band was hungry and firing on all cylinders on this album. Still one of faves from this era.

Not one bad song on that gem....I was in high school also around that time. Great times to be alive. 1983 was one of my favorite years for METAL..😎 I'm Really glad I got to experience it AND live through the BEST decade ever...

First heard of Ratt when they were featured on the first Metal Massacre album on Metal Blade Records in 82 and was hooked. Their first EP was very heavy and raw.

I was 19/20 when it came out and bought the vinyl back then. It had a great video for Round and Round.

One of the best from 84! Along with Dokken. JP. Dio. Mercyful Fate. The mighty Met Ride the Lightning. What a golden year for Metal and music in general. I was 10 or 11 that year. Fun and innocent times back then...

Bought this when it came out aged 13 and never tire of listening to it,not a bad track on it,gave the vinyl to my 13 year old son to listen to the other day as he's recently got into rock/metal and is learning to play guitar

I couldn't take this cassette out of my walkman, when I first got it. I've really grown to appreciate the song "In your direction" more lately, after giving it a more thorough listen. The guitar work in it is incredible. One of the greatest albums of all time, through all genres of music. Such a talented band.

i swear to you i was listening to Out of the cellar by Ratt last night. it brought so many memories. Definitely one of the albums of the early 80s era which gave the whole hair band metal era credibility. it's an awesome album. 🤘

I agree with just about everything you said here. I think that The Morning After nearly rivals Round and Round. Instead of hair metal, I like to call this music Melodic Rock... and the bands with the hot shot guitarists attracted me the most. Warren DeMartini's natural Melodic Rock rival from this era would be George Lynch. If you wanted your rock fix a little dirty, you played Ratt. If you wanted it a little more polished (especially with the vocals) you picked Dokken.

RATT was an amazing band, with a solid gold formula: a heavy metal Aerosmith!...The Decline Of Western Civilization: The Metal Years is an interesting movie that explores the nascent Glam Metal scene you referenced(Ozzy frying some eggs is a hoot!) .... Yeah, as far as the album is concerned, it's a wow from start to finish, polished yet so raunchy (if that makes any sense)with a healthy heaping of danger mixed in to the brew.....Memorable stuff there and thanx for highlighting it! ... robin crosby and warren de martini were great guitar players ,my older cousin was major into hair metal . Being a kid in the late 90s as a metalhead i really didnt know the early 80s glam metal but the guitar playing blew me away

Really a great RATT album. Not really one bad song on it. Some epic RATT songs on it. I feel the same way you do about the early hair metal period.

This album is a classic. I remember after a few listenings thinking “Wow this album is really strong and kicks ass!”

Having watched a few or more of your videos,we have identical taste and past paths of the hard to heavy rock scene, you have great taste and understanding of the finer things in music, hidden gems and anti anthem songs,Peircy,can write songs about chics for days, one of my favorite bass sounds in Metal!!!💪🇺🇸was great tripping music,lol!!!

I was about 11 when I first heard this album, it is a defining album for me and was my introduction to heavy metal.

I agree Mr. Alchemist, I to was in high school and though I was more of a heavy metal fan (Priest, Maiden) the cool thing about these bands was it wasn't so much of a compromise to enjoy bands like Ratt and girls really dug them to!

Although round and round has been over played on classic rock radio! They could of had 6 or 7 singles from that album! Not a big fan of she wants money though ! I was a little crushed you didn't talk about Blotzer's drumming - he has so much groove and creative fills. Even to this day no one sounds quite like him.

Admittedly I never listened to Ratt back in the 80s - I knew them as a band that one of my closest friends liked, but having seen their videos on music channels, they did nothing for me. However, I liked your take on them and fired up Apple Music to listen to Out Of The Cellar from start to finish for the first time ever - and it's not bad! Perfectly decent mid 80s hard rock. There were better tracks on the album than the hit single Round And Round which I never liked much...

Those first two albums, plus the EP, were fantastic. Albums 3&4 still pretty good but a bit of wilderness after that. Their last album is worth checking out though.

I lent it to a girlfriend who had got into the later wave with GnR, Poison and Vain, etc. Upside: it was fun to see her so totally blown away. Downside: I never got it back.

We were teased with few songs on the EP Ratt put out before this debut album. as we found it. And it does have an earlier Back For More version on it. Though there are many that still think this is first we heard of the band. For the mass of people it somewhat was. And also learning before they were known as Mickey Ratt I like the Ratt EP too Good play on turntable also.

Out of the Cellar is a really good, solid “debut” album. No argument there. However, many people today aren’t familiar with an EP they released prior which, in my opinion, was even better. The songs were heavier sounding. I saw Ratt on the Dancing Undercover tour with Poison opening and to my complete shock, I really thought Poison dominated the show. It seemed like Ratt, at that point, we’re kind of just going through the motions after watching the energy of Poison. But yes, out of the Cellar is a really strong album.
