On this week's episode of Onboard Lifestyle, the crew meets the perfect person at the perfect time. The result is a local charter captain that gives us a solid contact to rebuild our faulty starter. Linh rolls up her sleeves and seemingly makes an tough job look so easy. Basik is now poised to continue down the Costa Rica coast with, hopefully, no more issues. Come back next week to see where we end up...see you then!

@@linhgoben7224 There's a wonderfully chapter in Zen and the art of MCycle maintenance where he compares the two schools.. the OCD and the photographic memory/ sedimentary school of workshop arrangement. Pirsig himself had an IQ of 170...and it's 50yrs this year since Zen was first published. You've a young lady that might find it entertaining.

To be safe, you should always take off the negative terminal first. Taking off the positive terminal if your wrench touches anything metal it can cause a complete circuit.

Linh, nicely done on getting the starter in and out. That was a very tight spot and not a simple job. One thing I noticed was @17:00 when you reconnected the positive wires the small gage wire was installed first and then the heavy gage wire to the battery. Per ABYC, when installing wires of different gage to a single post, the heaviest gage wire should be the first installed. doing it backwards, causes all of the heavy current to go through the much smaller ring terminal which will increase the resistance and cause heating and voltage drop.

Teal, it was a Smart move for you to have Linh disconnect the battery. I know it's common sense, but not to some. Years ago, a friend of mine was working on his car and grounded his wedding ring to the battery. You can imagine the result. When they cut the ring off of his finger he had a permanent wedding ring scar. Congrats on getting Basic back in gear.

Possible ADHD is behind that electrical wizardry! I mean we are some of the most amazingly intelligent people who can solve any problem. If that doesn't sound like Wizardry I don't know what is! I now have a new title Wizard! Seriously, though when you see that much chaos in piles and the creator of that chaos knows exactly where everything is, that is more than likely ADHD. Piles are filing systems for us, as filing cabinets just seem to eat everything we put into them. We know exactly where every little thing is and which pile to look in. The minute I put file things away in drawers and filing cabinets it is gone forever. I will never see it again, and I won't remember putting it there either.

For your leaky dinghy, I saw another channel that put air filled dunnage bags inside the leaking tubes of a dinghy and they worked great. I didn't know what they were before seeing that video, but places like ULine sell them and they basically big pvc balloons that are used to stop cargo in semi-truck trailers and shipping containers from moving around. So rather than trying to get the dinghy surface to seal up, they just put a big, durable balloon in each tube. The dunnage bags come in different sizes and are fairly tube-shaped. And compared to a dinghy they are very cheap. Just an idea.

I seen corrosion cause all kinds of issues on boats. Grounds are were most of them occur. if you do not have sand paper or can not get to a part that is corroded use coke yes the stuff you drink. Pour it over the part that needs cleaning and let it eat the corrosion away. Next you blow off any left and then you can use dielectric grease just enough to coat any wires or parts that could again come into contact with sea water/air. I only use the grease on the negative side as that is always were the corrosion happens.

awesome video . as you say , things happen for a reason . I think the reason that these people that live on islands etc are down to earth , will help anyone etc , is because they are isolated from the rest of the world . They haven't been corrupted by all the issues the rest of the human race has . There is still places you can call paradise , but you need a boat to get to most of them . Glad to see your starter was fixed . The only question is , WHY do the designers of boats put things in cramped and or stupid places . You would think everything would be easy to get at . Anyway , good job ..

We decided on this route for a number of reasons. One big one is Compass. The South Pacific and other countries in that area are not pet friendly. One day, we plan on cruising there.

@@linhgoben7224 Lots of people sail with there dogs. This is the first I've heard of this and I've watched several other sailing channels with pets. Well, I guess you can cruise the Caribbean and then sail around South America and then across the Pacific.
