For almost a year now I’ve been very ill and unable to work as a nurse anymore and with all the bad news going on in the world finding your channels has made being home alone without anyone with me so much more tolerable. For that I want to thank the both of you. I wish that I was able to come to your wedding but I live in New Jersey and the distance is just too far, but I wish the both of you all the best in your new journey together! Eaten in 5 seconds. Just kidding, Ron! When I was 15, my father was out of work and out of money. He had us kids go pick wild black berries on a hill next to the highway (or maybe it was the Interstate). He cooked a lot. HE BAKED A HUGE PIE. WE LIVED OFF OF IT FOR SEVERAL DAYS. Grandmother saved the day, sending some cash. Daddy sold the house and we moved to Florida. It has been over 50 years, but I still remember how good that cobbler was. I thought that I could eat that 3 times a day for the rest of my life. I'll bet that your wedding will be so beautiful, celebrated outside or inside. I know that it will be a very emmotional ceremony. I am visualizing an 1800's or early 1900's wedding dress and veil. I am about to cry already. ( I cry at weddings.)You don't have to share your wedding day with anyone but I would LOVE to watch you get married over ther net. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed at the thought of it all. I feel like blackberries are really underrated… They can be sweet like blueberries, tart like raspberries or cherries, they don't have any seeds that get caught in your teeth, and they're almost always really juicy when I get them! They're just the best for pies and smoothies! 😃

Watching you eat that blackberry pie reminded me of my childhood…in middle July, my father would load me up for an all day run to pick blackberries, and once we had enough, my mom would make a blackberry cobbler! I swear there was a chigger for every berry we picked but we endured it all to have that blackberry cobble with vanilla Ice cream for dessert at our evening meal! I am now 74 and both parents are passed, but I still have that sweet memory of picking blackberries with my dad!

I want that pie. My mouth is actually watering just sitting here looking at it. I LOVE blackberry! I even drink blackberry flavored carbonated water! Oh, and my wedding was on May 17th (1986). It was supposed to rain that day, but someone upstairs was looking out for us, and it ended up sunny and warm!

I grew up in NW Washington. We had amazing GIANT blackberries on the farm, but my mother chose to forge into the thicket to find the wild, tiny berries. I recall they had a lot of seeds, which my mother strained out (somehow). Yumm, yum, good memories. LOVE your show.

You are right on target about the overly large supermarket blackberries being lackluster in taste. I find the same to be true with the behemoth sized strawberries that are common now. They are big, but generally flavorless. The flavor of a tiny wild strawberry will knock your socks off. Your wedding will be an incredible experience. I wish my husband and I could come. When I was a little girl in NJ, ( I now live in WA, close to part of the Lewis and Clark trail) there was land behind our house where we could pick blackberries….oh boy were those good! Jesse James was born in Kearney, MO….I did not know that, I googled it……lol. Poor Ron with his sunburn…..if you have tea bags, boil some water, drop the tea bag in, let it sit for a little bit, then remove from the water, and let the tea bag cool a bit, then take the tea bag and dab it over the sunburn, it will take out the sting from the burn.

It was developed in California in 1880 by James Harvey Logan. Store-bought blackberries are often bitter because they are picked before they are ripe. This is done so that they can be shipped and stored without spoiling. Out-of-season blackberries are also often bitter, as they are typically grown in Mexico where the climate is warmer. If you want to experience the sweetest blackberries, you should grow your own. Pick them when they are ripe on the cane. The longer they stay on the cane, the sweeter they will be. There actually quite good (blackberry's) if they are allowed to ripen naturally. they pick them early and use gas to force them to ripen.

Wild blackberries were the bane of my existence in Georgia. Them, and passion flowers, were all the time trying to take over my field! Lol! We had one section that we allowed to grow because my daughter actually loved picking them, very strange. Wild muscadine grapes are also so much better picked wild! We foraged for those every year for jellies, so much better than bought from the store! Congratulations on your wedding! I won’t horn in on your friends and family, but if you need a cleanup crew let me know and I can come and help clean after the wedding. That at least, should be something that you don’t have to worry about. For quite a few years I worked as a ministry assistant in a majorly huge church. Part of my job was as wedding liaison, so I am very familiar with wedding stresses!

We just got married last October 28 '22, we brought the outside inside with pinecones, leaves and pumpkins. We even had an imitation bonfire and gave out Halloween treat bags :)

My aunt and uncle had blackberry bushes and as kids we would go out and pick them for my aunt to make jam. It would take forever. But we would eat so many while picking them. Our hands and mouths would be stained purple. One of my favorite memories.

Blackberry pie or cobbler 🥧 is my very favorite dessert! My grandma and grandpa had a blackberry bush in their backyard and we would go pick them for a pie/cobbler and I would eat as many as I gathered ! They were absolutely delicious…. The blackberries brought back memories of my childhood. We had a black and 2 white mulberry trees in my yard when I was growing up. Plus, 4 pears trees, a crab apple tree, 3 cherry trees, and a huge grapevine on an overhead framing. When you sat under it, the rain would barely come through. We only bought a few fruits from the store during the Summer and Fall months. We also had a huge garden every year.

Went to visit my grandparents in Europe in 1975. They used a dug out space at the side of a mountain for refrigeration. And there was an outhouse (not a fan... bees). My grandmother cooked on a woodburning stove and got water from a well.

May 11 is my youngest’s birthdate. I wish I could go to your wedding, but hopefully in a year or two I can make it up to St. Genevieve. Also, elderberry tonic with a good gin and a drop or two of Angostura bitters, so yummy.

When I was a kid in the 1960's I had the privilege of picking and eating wild strawberries. They were very small and intensely delicious. I haven't been able to find them anywhere...even where we originally picked them back then, in this case because of on going development. Moving on to current time and me in Alabama for my first summer, I thought I was going to pick a bumper crop of Blackberries for jam...but they are so bitter and yet they are wild.
