I can not believe the good timing of this video. Tencel has been on my mind to blend with bamboo to create cloth for simple summer dresses. I love the drape and shine of it. You removed the anxiety of working with this material. Thank you for all that you do! Much appreciated!

I use Tencel and Bamboo for all of my scarves and love it. The drape, shine, and softness is what draws me in. I use it in both my warp and weft. My favorite in doing Overshot patterns. I have never had issues with it being too slippery. Love it!

I love the drape and feel of tencil. The first time I used it I was too naive to worry about slippery -ness so I used it for both warp and weft. So nice

I have used Tencel in my projects and it was lovely to work with. It has soft sheen which is very similar to silk. A fun fact to share - For weavers who refuse to use real silk, they use Tencel instead, and call it "vegan silk".

I use tencel a lot particularly when I want a luxury feel. It is twice the price of bamboo but more robust in my experience. When I use it as a warp I lash on because a tie on slips. It pairs really well with lambswool believe it or not. The matt of the wool makes the shine of the tencel really jewel-like. I did read somewhere that tencel does not like fabric conditioner as it can cause pilling. I haven't tested this. I wish it was cheaper!

This was a big learning experience for me. When I hear the term Tencel I think of the super fine glittery stuff in roving or batts. Hay, learned something new. Thanks.

Hi Chris, I work always with Lyocell and alpaca. Always for my warp; it is stronger than Alpaca. I love the shine. Very good to use it for shawl. The shrinkage is about 3%, this goes well with alpaca. I love it 😊

What a coincidence I have tencel on my loom now! It’s my first time using it, I am making fabric that I will attempt to make a shirt with 😜

I've used tencel in a few projects recently - it's on my loom right now! I like that it's plant-based and that the fabric wears nice and cool, which is great for me because I overheat easily. The drape and shine are gorgeous. & I personally haven't had much trouble with slipperiness! Definitely going to use it lots in the future.

I reach for Tencel when weaving soft drapy scarves. The colours, the texture, oh my! I haven’t had a lot of experience with a wide variety of fibres as I have to order sight unseen and unfelt. Oh to be let loose in a weaving store! I originally ordered it as it was the same size as my 2/8 cotton which I was familiar with. It is slippery but worth it.

I have only woven 1 project with 3 colors in both warp and weft. The wrap pattern came from Handwoven Mag and wow, it turned out amazing. Frankly, I’m not a shiny person, but I could see wearing it all “dressed up”! Perhaps I should try pairing with lamb’s wool?! Thanks!

Have plenty in my weaving stash but have never used it or the similar in appearance silk. Had some scarves planned that didn’t happen. Know about the fiber being the “more environmentally friendly rayon” from sewing with it. I should remedy that!

I’m more an amateur knitter than a weaver, but with a goal toward knitting socks (if the carpal tunnel lets me continue long term), do you think Tencel may knit up? Thank you for the information in the video, either way!

Hi! Thanks for the comment! I'm not a knitter myself, but I would think you can happily use Tencel wherever you want a shiny, drapey yarn!

I haven't tried it, but I love the colors and shine. Does it shrink as much as cotton as well? In other words, if I paired it with cotton warp, would the warp shrinkage cause the weft to be wonky?
@ActonCreative
@ActonCreative Ай бұрын
Great question! I think if you have 1 fiber in the warp and another fiber in the weft, you'll be fine! My understanding is that the shrinkage is very similar. But if your piece is really important, I would do a mock-up to test first!

@@ActonCreative Your video has inspired me to at least give it a try. I wonder how different the experience of using tencel is between using it for tapestry vs. using it on a floor or rigid heddle loom
