When the PCs are murderhobos, imagine the consequences for spawning Redcaps. When the PCs meet them, the Redcaps are honored to meet "Mommy" and/or "Daddy".

When White Dwarf magazine tackled fey creatures for 1E (issues 37-39) the Redcap was basically a funny-looking Bugbear. In the scenario they were indeed used as guards by Black Annis (a Hag-like monster, of course).

My party killed some Redcaps and took their dang boots because they were so cool-looking. I gave them Disadvantage on Stealth with them on, but in exchange they get that cool running knockdown ability Redcaps get with their big heavy emo boots

I could absolutely see doing something specifically with the daytime moon thing. Perhaps that is what's needed to make them rise from mushrooms. And maybe when they die they become mushrooms again (unless something is done to prevent that) simply waiting for the next daytime moon to allow them to rise again and sate their bloodlust.

If you want to do the singular red cap you need to treat them like a mad slasher. Attack from ambush, lots of movement shenanigans and you're never going to have a straight up fight with them if they can help it. You need to outsmart them rather than out fight them

I wonder if you could trick red caps with prestidigitation. Have them think they are soaking their caps in a puddle of blood, when in reality they're just rinsing it off in a puddle of water. If the caps are rinsed clean do they vanish as if it would have been dry?? I would rule so.

I think a Redcap who experiences a solar eclipse should become a Very powerful redcap. I’d call it a Black Sun Redcap or a Black Cap?(not entirely sure, for real I’d probably just go with Redcap Elder). Not sure what powers(etc) such a Redcap should get, but it should be markedly stronger and more dangerous than the normal redcaps. Story wise, this would create the interesting situation of what happens when the path of a solar eclipse is coming through your area? I’d expect redcaps galore. The upside is that locals have the opportunity to eliminate many redcaps at once. The downside is that a few are almost guaranteed to survive to become the Post Solar Eclipse Redcap which is so much more deadly. Thanks for the video. I love your channel. In my own campaign, the Fey are the main way that supernatural beings interact with my setting regularly because I’m a big fan of all things fey.

red caps entered pop culture in the 70's in froud's book 'Faeries' but they were depicted as BIG not nasty gnomes

I made red caps in my campaign a sort of gang or cult, made of mostly of goblins and other goblinoids with the odd ball of a troll or a very lost ogre. The red caps served as a constant threat over a region where it’s a cult that has to keep their caps red and damp with the blood of their kills or get executed by the other red caps.

Red Caps are some of my favorite fey enemies to use. Though it should be noted in ravenloft there is another type of fey called a Redcap, same general idea muderous little bugger though this one has wings.This one is part of the shadow fey. One of my favorite little elements of how I used both was that there was a clan of both that were engaged in a sadistic little 'game' of who can spill the most non-fey blood the most. who is the most proper redcap, the iron boots(the standard dnd red cap) or the wingies(the ravenloft specific one). This was in a little hot springs dungeon in the Domain of Hazlan, which has a really fun fey briefly mentioned in the books called the Grønsamkøre Vulk who live in the various hot springs and are known for both their wisdom and terribleness. there isn't much beyond that, so I made the vulk turn people to stones to decorate the natural hot springs. To be with them forever, eternally beautiful via flesh to stone, the redcaps were there along with other fey as they liked the hot springs in between their game of slaughter.

This is great! I'm looking for different ways to increase fights in my Feywild adventure, so would love to see more videos like this. A lot of the official 5e literature I have seen (Witchlight and Feywild Companion) paint Feywild adventures as scenario and puzzle heavy adventures. But I like to give my party at least one opportunity for a good old fashioned fight each session.

My version for the effects of moonlight are a bridge to the feywild, so my logic fey becoming as strong as they are on the feywild. I might put in that Redcaps need to keep a connection to the feywild to stay on the material every few days and can use blood to do so. Perhaps I would put them archfey create them for sort of fun of the chaos of a little murder hobo, or released as a manifestation of stress relief. And they can cross into the material plane through blood born of murderous intent with the moonlight connecting the feywild. They either hunker up alone stewing in the malicious thoughts they were made of. Or under someone who feeds their dark thoughts and enables killing, like a hag might. Maybe even get drawn to angry loners, and encourage them to act like they do, preferably creating a serial killer that can bring it back to the material plane through blood in moonlight.

Is it a solar or lunar eclipse that that you need for that boss fight? Solar eclipses occur at a new moon, not a full moon. Lunar eclipses occur during full moons.

redcaps are a reference to Jewish blood libel

I knew about them when I was 15 from reading Mage comics by Matt Wagner. It's a modern Arthurian legend that also introduces the Leanan Sídhe, Grackleflint, Kelpies, and Marhault Ogre. When I got older I read the myths which inspired them. I still use them in games from time to time.

One hang up from reality: the moon has to be directly opposed to the sun to be full, or rises as the sun sets. It cannot be full during the day. Please don’t read this as negative feedback, just context.

At first I thought to myself "why would I make a Feywild campaign for a first-time party?" Then I realized I helped build a Fey Wanderer for one of my players, and everything started to fall into place. The intended endgame is in the Feywild, against Titania's own sister. One of the players is a Circle of Stars Druid, who found a pale green star that had recently appeared. It's all planning itself beautifully, and these videos only make it easier.
