This was the first time they printed collector boxes in japan. Personally, I'll gladly trade slightly duller foils for less curling and better print quality on average.

The fact that if Dominaria Remastered had been called Magic 30th everyone would have been happy is proof we are in the worst timeline.

Prof always says that it’s not worth it to buy boxes and then proceeds to open the most valuable cards in the entire set with startling frequency. He’s still right, it’s just very ironic.

I like how the Professor talks about buying singles but always seems to open fire boxes on the booster box game.

The fact that one of those packs had no value cards until the token says a lot about society.

One thing I would like to hear personally is a voice over going over maybe cards you'd like or decks that you've been playing recently.

It's still crazy to me that, in Magic, you have to buy a separate and more expensive booster to get alternate-art goodies, while every Pokemon set is filled with two or even three visual variants of cards, plus often a special full-art set *in the holo slot* (NOT the rare slot). For the regular price.

Pack: “here’s a rare!” Prof: “ok” Pack: “it’s Urza…” Prof: “yay!” Pack: “…’s Blueprints!” Prof: “rats.”

The best use of older packs is to get some friends together and do a chaos draft.

I was trying to follow along with the individual pack openings, and I think overall he went -$7.50 or so. The Urza's Saga carried hard but even it couldn't undo the financial hole of the old Masters prices. That Baldur's Gate pack had my heart sink as it would have been the first pack they Prof ended up in the net red after, but that Boo token squeaked in and got him back to net ~$0 going in to the last pack!!

Professor, you have mastered the art of transitions. You went from having a sizable stubble to neatly trimmed and then back to sizable stubble. We've achieved peak performance! You're growing back what you shaved in a matter of an hour or so!

I, for one, always appreciate learning the lesson from these videos that it's ALWAYS worth it to buy collector booster boxes provided you happen to pull 3 out of the 5 most expensive cards in the whole set, and preferably multiple of the top 10.

I found it hilarious that the Boo token was worth more than any of the other cards in the Commander Legends Baldur's Gate pack

I for one am a huge fan of this kinda of foil. I like that it seems dim. It gives it a more lavish and spohisticated look. Plus, if that's the reason why these foil curl less, then I say we keep it!

I watch these hoping it gets my MTG gambling desires sated, but it just makes me want boosters more argh.

Two collector packs gave me Izzet extra turns in Last Chance and Time Warp. I was very excited opening them, thinking I pulled valuable cards. Not even $10

As someone who played VERY casually like 10 years ago, everytime I see the Professor do a video and has the prices it just pushes me away from the game lol. I want to get into a TCG (used to play Yugioh until Crystal Beasts first came out and some minor Magic, I do still play Gwent and Marvel Snap online but you don't get in person connections so I'm not counting those) and it's just so hard to get into something like this when all you're seeing is how expensive it is or the whole OGL thing with WOTC, it's tough lol. I'm probably more blowing it out of proportion because I would never be a tournament player, just mainly some Commander casuals but it's still disheartening to see how crazy things are in MTG lol. BTW love the channel Professor! Like I said above I have only played Magic for a short while and it was very casual but I enjoy the channel! You also helped me find @TeamAPS channel and with all the Yugioh I played growing up it's great watching them! Hope you have continued success!

I have to agree with you on the printers. On AWBO PR day I bought a PR kit, 2 collector boosters, and a set booster box and all my foils were just spot on amazing.

TRUE!!!!!! The Dom Remastered CB cards have to become the new benchmark in card quality for MTG products going forward. The Japanese printer did amazing work on this product.

Honestly I like the subtle look of the duller foils more than I like the original super shiny version.

The prices for ANYTHING Magic are insane. It’s why I’ve switched to Pokémon as a collector. So many more AFFORDABLE products to choose from, and most turn a profit in a few years.

On my mind a DMR collector box is a 48 (4*12) draft booster box with premium rares. Looking at it that way, It's actually one normal box for 300*36/48=225 dollars. This is 21% more, assuming draft box is 185 dollars. That means the premium rares should have a minimal average premium rate of 21% to logically buy a collector pack over draft packs (at these prices mind you). At that point you see why it's achievable in some sense. This calculation assumes prices and the current DMR set, as content of draft and collector packs can vary, and it assumes worthless uncommons which does have an impact!

OMG that Wormfang Drake reminded me of a match i had with some friends once! I had a bunch of random cards so we kind of drafted it to create decks and compete with each other. We were in 3 or 4 people. My friend ended up choosing my cards to make what actually was a really close to 1to1 black pauper deck. I had 2 Wormfang Drakes who were decent flying attackers given it was almost a limited competition. I don't remember the card I used, but I did something to tutor a card, and I named Wormfang Drake, because 1 died and I had another, and when I looked up my deck I said "Where's my Drake??" which became an internal joke when something bad happened while playing, because I forgot to put the second one! I lost, but it was actually a very funny loss. I wish I had more details but this match was in 2013. OMG this was 10 years ago.

I'm glad that your foils stayed flat as log as they did. I opened a pack 2 days ago and the cards were slightly curved (not horribly so, but noticeably) . It's possible that mine came from a different printer than yours.

I have a 12"x14"x4" metal brief case thing I keep full of assorted sealed boosters. I just keep a few as I go, year-to-year. For my 30th birthday I got to open up a few MH2, Ice Age, Planechase, TSR, and half a dozen AFR packs. Save those randos for a rainy day or a chaos draft!!

BTW. The retro cards have 2 different types of Foils. C/U/ basic lands have one foiling type. R/M have a less common foiling type.

Trying to determine what caused more visible pain- accepting the likely reality that WotC won't use the same printing method as these foils for non-premium products, or promoting a mobile game that probably has a more reasonable monetization model for premium content.

My Dominaria Remaster box only had 100$ value in it for the 172$ I paid. Oof! Luckily the Drafts are amazing.

Prof got the exact box I wish I had gotten. I would agree about the printing quality but so many of my packs had duplicate rares in them, but at least I have plenty of tutors now

Pretty sure they’re printed in Japan (that’s what the foils from Japan usually look like). A lot has to do with the humidity of the room they’re printing in tbh. Quality of course is a big factor too.

My local retail store marked them on clearance. I got 12 of them for $120…. Got a few tutors and a foil force of will.

I'm convinced that WOTC did some random focus group with a bunch of non-player participants, who decided that the "dull" foil looked better than actual shiny foil cards.

I opened one collectors pack of Dominaria Remastered. I got two copies of Gamble. If that isn't a sign, I don't know what is.

That was an awesome box! They need to replicate whatever those Japanese printers did with those collector boosters here in the US. Consistent humidity control would be a good start!

Well I’m four single collector boxes and two cases into DR as of now. One case will be cracked and one will chill for a rainy day. It’s expensive but as a Urza’s block guy coming back the cards are great. The hits are even more amazing. Great set!

Last pack spelt 'Modern Horrizons', literally inwatchable! Real talk though, the foiling on Dominaria Remastered is amazing. I'm building my first cube at the moment and was already glad to pick up a ton of the old border cards in this set, then saw what some of these cards look like in foil and realised what I had to do. Also though... do I need 30 of each basic land from this set in foil... cube lands are a long term purchase right?

If there was a CE box to do it with, this would be the set. Fun nostalgia, great value pulls, very satisfying collectors box to open.

It's a little telling where the direction of WotC is now when the token and rares are right at the top.

Couldn't bring myself to buy a box of the collector's either, but I did purchase two packs. First one had nothing of mention, second one had both force of will and urza, Lord high artificer. I'd say that's good enough lol
