Hey buddy, great review! Thanks for showing the inside. I’m not an amp tech, but one thing I wanna point out is that those orange drop capacitors near the tubes are not the high voltage ones. It looks like the standing ones are there too but as long as you don’t somehow stick your finger underneath it, it’s not dangerous. Great amp!!!

The one big concern that jumps out at me is that they are charging almost $2,000US for an amp that's construction and materials shouldn't have a retail price over ONE K! And that's accounting for the slightly more expensive speaker and handle! 🙂 The power supply/filter caps are rather tiny. Though not a fan of PCB's at all, they can be a necessary cost-cutting measure. But at this price-point, this circuit layout and hidden, board mounted tubes are inexcusable. This amp, cool as it looks, and nice as it maybe sounds, is a definite 'no' for me. Not at that price. Lastly, the fan. The simple fact that gibson found they needed to add a fan, where most all other amps never have, tells you that the design concept is incorrect.

The cool thing about these amps and all the other reissues, if they have any problems they’ll come soon. I’ve been working on amps for years so if something is going to fail you usually see within the first year. The Gibson amps(originals)are pretty basic so it makes sense there wouldn’t be much on the board, it just feels like there should be more for that price. Like the Fender Tonemaster series, only time will tell if the amps will last. Regardless they’re keeping me busy.

It's clear you like your Amp and I wish you many enjoyable hours. I am also slightly worried about it's robustness. You probably can extend it s livespan by being aware of the weak points. E.g.always check whether the fan is running. Replace it at the first sign of making weird or mire noise. The other worry I would have is the horizontally mounted tubes without tube clamps. I would worry about getting them slowly out of their sockets by the cumulative effect of putting the Amp on the floor. The shock of that could maybe make the tubes wiggle out of their sockets. Obviously never putting the Amp down with a thud will help.

I dont get having the 12ax7 preamp tubes mounted directly to the board, even if it doesnt get hot enough to cuase problems with the pcb, if a socket goes bad, you pretty much will have to change the whole board, if you over heat the board trying to get one socket out it could destroy the board. 80yrs of mounting them outside the chassis has done just fine. People can open the amp themselves to make a judgement call, however do they know what they’re looking at? Your review is more informative than most by opening the amp but you don’t actually show us what it looks like inside? One of the issues not talked about by most reviewing the amp: how do you quickly check for a bad tube in the fly during a gig or while recording? You can’t. At least with most Fender amps, you can acces the tubes without removing the back panel…unless there’s a cage over the power tubes. But at least you can see all tubes and visually inspect for obvious issues: broken/not lighting up. Also, nobody’s talking about if the PC board layout is easily serviceable Guitoligist gives the best review regarding the amp’s build quality. Everyone else suggests it’s built well without showing us the inside, or even looking inside themselves… and then back to my first comment: would they even know what they’re looking at inside 🤷🏽‍♂️

What do you mean I don't show you what it looks like inside? Isn't that exactly what I did? If you were wanting me to take it apart completely thats a whole other thing I guess. I was not about to pull out the board. You do bring up a valid point with this amp being a lot harder to access or visibly assess a bad pre-amp/power tube. But if a bad tube was suspected, I don't see why someone who is a serious guitar player and/or gigs regularly wouldn't have a screwdriver on hand to take the back cover off and replace a valve. It only took me a minute or two to do it.

I have an original Gibson GA amp, this one sounds no where like it. This things sounds quite generic compared to mine, which has a very pronounced character. The original is mid heavy and in your face, a can be agressive. You need to tame it and takes time to dial in a sound because it has so much personnality.. it's not at all versatile and shows every single mistake in your playing. It gets there when he dimes it at around 18 minutes.. but that's how this amp sounds most of the time.. But when you find the way to use it, and clean up your technic, it's unique and fabulous sounding.

My fender excelsior is better made than these new “Gibson” amps at least the pre amp and power amp valves are mounted on the chassis. But I’m sure there will be plenty of people blinded by the Gibson bullshit about Handwired lol 😂

6 minutes in and I can't stop thinking "this guy is incredibly impressed by the fact that their manual comes covered in the same material as blue book exams in college (like $3 a piece), that they suggested settings (feels pretty commonplace), that they give you a patch to advertise for their company, and that they throw in a cable. Like these are, at worst, an excuse for a subpar product, or at best, nice lil extras. They have nothing to do with the amp, and I've still heard nothing from or about the amp. Why are we talking about these?

I am an amp tech....At the price point these amps are at one could buy an original Falcon, have it serviced, and have a more reliable system. PCB board and heat is what gives people with Fender reissue amps...ie...Blues Jr....problems all the time...I know I have to work on them

Avoid these amps. Unless longevity and money isn't a concern, avoid these amps. If, by some chance, a few survive a few years and you can pick up a used one for a hundred dollars or so, then I'd think about getting one. But that is some of the worst construction I've seen outside of the very cheapest amps made short of using SMD construction.

A reconditioned Gibson Falcon is half as much, and the new ones are not worth the money, another Gibson cash grab.

Mass produced, cheap crappy construction and highly overpriced. Spend half the price and buy the original from the late 1950s or 1960's now that's an amp!

Looking inside an amp when you are not a tech isn't really useful. people here are praising you for doing so and praising this amp when what a tech will tell you is that this is a badly designed, cheaply made and overpriced piece of disposable tech. It's also blatently deceptive unless you call putting quick connects into sockets "hand wiring". Actually there is no controversy among techs about this amp, theater is a consensus that it's crap made for those with large amounts of disposable income and little sense. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/prydoNijxL-RqHU.htmlfeature=shared
