Join us as we delve into the jungles of Chult in the Dungeons & Dragons Tomb of Annihilation Board Game from WizKids.
We're playing with the premium edition of the game which comes some with all of the 42 miniatures pre-painted allowing you to get stuck straight into the game.
We play adventure 3 of 13 and give you an idea for how this RPG adaptation plays out.

Props to Justin for handling the tech so seamlessly, camera switches were always so spot on I didn't even think about it, the sound was clear, explanations were clear and concise. hats off to al of you. a buddy just bought the game, this will ensure we can dive right in and focus more on having fun than wading through the basics. Just for other viewers who may be looking for rule clarifications... Dragonbait would've also got Advantage before his Blessed Strike, and you can gain more than one Treasure card during your turn, but are limited to one from killing a monster. So technically, you can gain 1 Treasure from killing a monster, and 1 from a Treasure chest.

17:50-18:50 bard loads a poison dart, bard sneezes while loading dart, dart penetrates bards thigh...bard is stunned..lol that was classic XD

Fantastic video. Really enjoyed the interactions between during the game. I recently got myself a copy of this set and apparently for adventures 1 to 3 you are not allowed to level up. I like to be proven wrong but unlike the other sets, this one doesn't allow you to spend 5 xp when you roll a 20 to level up as well.

Quite an entertaining adventure you had! Jungle tiles look wonderful. The miniatures in this set are not all winners, though, in my opinion.

First you move; after that you move again OR attack OR use an item, scroll etc.(it's on the play sequence card). So you can't start with attacking and than moving. Otherwise great introduction to the game, GJ

I’m wondering if the strategy they used exploring to avoid drawing encounter cards brought more fury down upon them than if they had focused fired the monsters one by one and just taken the encounter card risk by exploring new tiles slower. I’ll have to do some experimenting. Great video to teach the game.

In my experience with LoD is far worse to try on tanking encounters than keep moving, but this has some significant differences with that one.

Just started playing this one this past week, great video solid explanation of the game for people. However As S Monsour said, you have to level up in between adventures when you are in town for gold/xp and I believe you can only do it from adventure 4 or higher. I had one question, I'm not sure about line of sight and buildings. For example on the tile named the Village there are huts, I'm not sure if they are considered to block Los or not. My best guess is yes but I'm not sure if I'm being too technical. Any input on that would be great. Aside from the nit picking this game is a ton of fun, solo or with groups. They did a really good job with this one love the campaign.

I assume you've already found out by now, but I'm pretty sure line of sight does not exist in this game. I have a rules question of my own. Was that triceratops attack at 51:44 handled correctly? The rest of my group seemed to think damage on a miss meant getting hit by your own attack.

@@dujas2 I means that your armor absorbed most of the damage, but you still got some done to you. You hitting yourself is in the RPG when you blunder an attack you yourself make, and you get a 1, but blunders don't exist in the Adventure System as far as I know. To answer your question, yes, they did it correctly.

Hey, can you please explain to me what the differences are between all the DnD games like Dragonfire, Tomb of Annihilation, Drizzt, Ashardalon, Temple of Elemental Evil, and Ravenloft. Are they like expansions??

They are all stand alone games, so it doesn't matter which one you buy. But nearly all the heroes, monsters, traps, tiles etc. can be merged together into one game, if you wish.

Dragon fire has a different rule set with the other games you mentioned. CR, WoA, LoD, & ToEE are all compatible to mix the treasures, encouters, monsters, heros, and dungeon tiles. These games all share the same rule set. They are also stand alone games. Each newer version expands on the prior with minor mechanics like the trap makers on squares. These only started in ToEE (The first three are real similar being made by Wizards of the Coast as the last two are made by WizKids). The miniatures from all games can be used for the tabletop pen and paper RPG. some buy these games for the miniatures.

You actually dont get to level up on a 20, that was in Tomb of Elemental Evil, in TOA you can buy a level at the end of an adventure ; still great game and a brilliant solo game

It depends if you are doing a One Shot or campaign. Otherwise, you'd never see level 2 on One Shots.

I thought you could use your movement before or after your action? So if the mage attacks a monster can't they use their movement afterwards to an unexplored tile to trigger a new tile instead of triggering an encounter card?

Yes they could but if it was a tile with a black triangle it would still trigger an encounter card.

@@BarrengerFynar there's a chance yes, but not trying to uncover new tiles guarantees an encounter... at least uncovering a new tile has a chance at not forcing an encpunter

In the beginning I believe that was your monster. You drew the card. You can't have it attack another character.

the monster activates on his turn and there’s mechanics on the monster cards, deciding who to attack when anyone meets the conditions is up to the player so it’s fine, that’s how i play it too

Yes. To add, you can't move attack and spend the remaining movement points if you had some speed left over.

You can attack, then move, you can move, then attack, you can move twice and Drizzt can attack twice.

I convinced myself to skip this version and get Dungeon of the mad mage. After watching you guys get sucked right into this one I think I'll get it as well. The player chars look interesting enough alone.

^ Renan is correct. This is taken directly out of the Castle Ravenloft rulebook but I'm sure the rule is the same across the Adventure set: Defeating Heroes: "(..)If the Hero is healed before the start of his or her turn, stand the figure up-the Hero is back in the fight and can use powers and items normally. A Hero that starts his or her turn at 0 Hit Points must spend a Healing Surge token. If there are no Healing Surge tokens remaining, the Heroes lose the adventure."

This game has way too many traps in it and the monsters aren't very interesting. Castle Ravenloft (the first game in the series) is still the best followed by Legend of Drizzt. Some mistakes were made, which is common. But one to mention is that the Ice Spider should not have been hit on the first attack. The Ice Spider is an ally, not a Hero.
