Description:
Destiny 2: The Final Shape is a major expansion for Destiny 2, a first-person shooter video game by Bungie. Representing the eighth expansion and the seventh year of extended content for Destiny 2 and 10th year of content for the Destiny franchise, it was released on June 4, 2024, after being delayed from its original February 2024 date. The Final Shape revolves around the player's Guardian seeking out the franchise's major villain, the Witness, who had disappeared through a portal that it created on the surface of the celestial Traveler at the conclusion of Lightfall (2023). The Guardian and the Vanguard must stop the Witness from creating the titular Final Shape-the calcification and destruction of all life in the universe-and end the war between the Light and Darkness, concluding Destiny's first major saga, the "Light and Darkness" saga. The expansion also sees the return of the character Cayde-6, who had been killed during the events of Forsaken (2018).
In addition to new super abilities for the existing Light subclasses, a new subclass, "Prismatic", was added, allowing players to combine and use Light and Darkness abilities in tandem. The expansion also added new content across the game, including new missions, Player versus Environment locations, Player versus Player maps, player gear, weaponry, and a new raid. Unlike prior years, Year 7 does not follow the seasonal model in which the year is divided into four seasonal content offerings. Instead, there are three large episodes to be released throughout the year, which are standalone experiences, and each episode is divided into three acts, telling the aftermath of the expansion. The episodes, titled Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy, were originally set to release in March, July, and November, respectively, but these were also pushed back due to The Final Shape's delay; the first episode, Echoes, will begin a week after the expansion's release on June 11 with the other two episodes tentatively set for October 2024 and February 2025, respectively.
The Final Shape expands on the base Destiny 2 gameplay by adding a new free roam destination, the Pale Heart, located within the celestial being, the Traveler, with areas influenced by previous destinations explored throughout the history of the franchise. The destination is the first patrol zone that can be explored solo, unless a player has a pre-made fireteam. New and existing story content was expanded with a "Legendary" difficulty similar to that from the previous two expansion packs. Additional content for The Final Shape includes one new raid, "Salvation's Edge", releasing on June 7, 2024, which takes place in the Witness's monolith in the Pale Heart, and two new dungeons which will be released during the episodic content throughout the year.
The expansion introduces the first new enemy race since Forsaken (2018) called the Dread, who are the personal soldiers of the Witness. These include Grims, flying bat-like enemies that can shoot players from midair and can unleash a sonic scream attack to suppress and slow players; Husks, which are fast-moving and attack players using blades and unleashes a homing Geist enemy upon death; Attendants and Weavers, Cabal Psion-like enemies that respectively use Stasis and Strand powers; Subjugators, which are tall, slender, bipedal beings that use glaives that are split between Stasis-wielding Omens and Strand-wielding Harbingers; as well as Tormentors, a singular enemy type that was first introduced in Lightfall (2023).

I found your channel while looking for a playthrough of some indie game a while back and ended up watching a bunch of your old playthroughs. I like to watch indie games and things like that because I'm hopelessly addicted to Destiny and never make time to actually play anything else. I find it pretty awesome that I unknowingly subscribed to yet another Destiny content creator. Super fun to catch your reaction to such a great end to a decade long journey. Keep up the good work!

I doesn't matter how many times I watch the part with Cayde. I start to sob once more.

A couple years ago there was a bug where the game treated two players as one in the matchmaking screen for raids. It meant you could double up fireteams on any raid and load 12 people into what should have been a six person activity. Absolute chaos ensued as was expected. My clan and I 12-manned Garden of Slavation, Last Wish, and a couple others. Amazingly, it did not crash the game and the community seemed to love it. It seems Bungie took notice and used what they learned from that bug to make this mission.

I cried I think 5 times total? Most weren't even because it was sad or anything, just that after every high and low they managed to stick the landing at the very end and drop a nearly perfect expansion. For a game this important to me for almost half of my life, through a decade of love and loss and change and figuring out who I am, the fate I want to make. As a writer it's inspired entire universes I've built, it's connected me with friends, led me to watch creators I intend to watch forever. So I'll keep playing it for another decade, even if my biggest feeling now is worry that Frontiers or D3 or whatever won't come close to hitting as hard as this did. The Episodes might just be slightly better Seasons, they might be as drip-fed as ever, but I'll keep playin em. Besides; Maya Sundaresh, the Fallen civil war, Xivu Arath? Those are some good topics to keep me occupied as I get to experience Dawntrail, my first blind XIV expac, the Elden Ring DLC, whatever comes next. Thanks for being a near-constant source of entertainment (and vicariously replaying outer wilds through your series every few months lmao) for... I think I first saw you play DMC5 in 2019? 5 years now, jeez. Hopefully we both actually live long enough to see Gears 6 huh? Maybe a good Halo game? Hell, if Destiny can drop an expansion with minor flaws and a shit boss, anything can happen.

Yessss sticking the landing is amazing, it's what will be remembered now, regardless of prior bad times with Lightfall and stuff, this will be what Destiny is remembered for in the future. Aaaaahhh I'm so excited for you to have your first blind XIV expansion!! I started at the start of 2020 during 5.1 and caught up near the end of 5.2 just in time to experience 5.3 at launch with everyone which was incredible, and then EW was my first full expansion launch with everyone which was absolute peak, I'm sooooooooo excited for Dawntrail in less than 2 weeks aaaaahhhh! Woah 5 years is wild, I forget I've even been doing this that long sometimes haha xD but I'm super glad you're still enjoying the vids! Lmao my disappointment in the Gears 6 news is immeasurable, but yeah maybe one day... supposedly Gears E-Day won't launch until 2026 so we'd be looking at 2031 for Gears 6 at that point... better part of a decade away lmao. But yeah hopefully I'll still be around by then if and when that happens xD

I do wish I sticked with Destiny, your enjoyment was overflowing the video and just a delight. I picked up Destiny 1 on launch day but I saddly bounced off it being confused with the new format of game that Destiny was going for, but I saw the quality of work that was on display, from the art direction, character design and fan art so while I distanced myself from the series as my attention went else where, it was never out of sight. I did try D2 last year and I did felt a bit out of place, fumbling to pick up everything that happened between the ending of 1 and the Light Fall. But I did enjoy the short journey I went on much better.

Awh glad you enjoyed my enjoyment xD haha I don't blame you D1 launch was very messy, I think it only lasted as long as it did due to it being one of the first live services of it's kind. If it launched today in that state I think it would join a long list of quickly shut down ones like Avengers and Anthem honestly. But I'm glad it had the chance to grow and evolve and become what it is today!
