I'm entering an spiral of expenses and destruction. Happy owner of VSL CFX and D274, this could lead me to bankrupcy after purchasing Keyscape (another segment but really interesting). It's just overwhelming when you load a full library, all mics on (buffy PC needed), and make it sound with low latency and no cracks or pops whatsoever. Would you say this Fazioli delivers the best playability accross the entire Synchron Pianos spectrum? Think your answer carefully, it can lead me to bankrupcy. Nice review, very pleased. It's very satisfactory watching somebody like you enjoying so much. Big thanks to you.

Yup, the extra close mics is why I need the full versions. I think vsl knows what they're doing here. ☺️ That said. If you buy this with vouchers + sale/introduction price, in my opinion these synchron pianos offer the best price/quality, or "bang for your buck" ratio out there. But personally I couldn't do with just the close mics. I need at least the room mix mic as well, and preferably at least 1 mid mic.
@winterheat
@winterheat Жыл бұрын
see, the biggest problem for me to get this is, I can pay $245 now for the Standard version, but I only get 1 Close mic and 1 Mid mic, and so I am missing 2 Close and 1 Mid mic, and the 3 extra mics: the Room and 2 Main mics which would make it sound like it comes from far away (50 feet or more), are never going to be used by me, so (1) how do you feel paying $245 for something and half of that is not useful, and (2) $245 is not cheap for a VST, and yet it is not complete... it is not a good purchase experience. If VSL can let me buy the Standard Package now and can let me switch to a Piano Player package when they have it later that includes only the Close and Mid mics, I will buy it now

Yes, this is one of the areas I think VSL should take into consideration. It is somewhat similar to Spitfire Audio having libraries with so many different mic positions that most realistically you might not ever use. Orchestral Tools approach I think is innovative as you can purchase in sone instances specific articulations and select mic positions, like an Ala Carte system. Hopefully VSL might be open in the future to offer this type of choice in the future. Thanks as always for your kind feedback and support. Joyfully!🎹

@PraiseTracks
@PraiseTracks Жыл бұрын
Fanta, welcome to the channel. I have had the SL88: Grand a little over two years and have found it to be a stellar controller. What I enjoy is the wide dynamic range it has for getting the most out of a piano library. It can get to the very lowest and softest dynamic range and give you the headroom to hit the highest. Of course you might have to dial things in as each instrument responds somewhat differently. The only other controllers are much more expensive and I find the SL88: Grand to be a great value for the keyboard and features. The keyboard itself is a wooden action which makes it a little heavier than some controllers but it does give you a nice response. Thanks again for watching and let me know how ai can be of assistance. Joyfully!🎹

Hi, Simeon. New subscriber to your channel. Love what you're doing! You rock, my friend. I get the Unified Library concept for Unify. However, can you "stack" VSTS that are not required by Unify?
@PraiseTracks
@PraiseTracks Жыл бұрын
Jose, welcome to the channel. I might need a little more information concerning your question but let me take a shot. You can add all of your VST plugin and effects so that UNIFY can access them. You might not want ALL of your plugins inside of Unify and they have given you ways to browse and scan one plug in at a time or your entire VST folder(s) and then customize what is available using the Unify plugin manager. So, when I am not specifically using Unify during a livestream, I basically turn on the MIDI ECHO for the tracks that I want to link (stack). This takes the MIDI in from my controller and passes it to all of the tracks that I have selected to echo. This might be different depending on the particular DAW you are using. i am using Cakewalk by Bandlab. Let me know if that helps. I so appreciate the kind support and am always glad to help when I can. Joyfully!

@PraiseTracks
@PraiseTracks Жыл бұрын
Oh absolutely! So, Unify does recommend using VST 2 if it is available as it seems to be the most stable and some of the unified patch libraries use the VST 2 variant of some plugins. Of course, if VST 2 is not available, then of course VST3 would work. You can find several Unified patch libraries for many virtual instruments on the Plugin Guru site. Personally, I have created unified patch libraries for a lot of Spitfire Originals instruments. This allows you to have the presets in the Unify Patch list and makes it so much easier to create layers and such. Unify is an exciting and useful tool that I expect to continue growing in features and capabilities. 2023 should be a very interesting year indeed. Joyfully yours!

You know what vsl is missing? The ability to buy mic positions for the costumers... I mean insane idea, think about it : you can choose whatever mic you think you're gonna need... I mean a lot of us are not score writers or something... We only need the close and mid mics (i personally need a mid and deca three with all the close mics - but with the shitty situation that vsl made with their standard and full bundles we gotta pay all the way to 600$ for the things we may never even use... That's in my opinion is bullshit)

Hello Simeon, I ended up buying the Fazioli. Now it happens that I started working abroad. I was using a Korg Kronos 88X, which works really fine for me. But sometimes different is good. I am still wondering which controller to buy here in Norway. Candidates: Kawai VPC1 (29.5kg, will stay at home. Issue is if I move. DHL), Nord Grand, Kawai MP7, Roland FP-30X, Roland Fantom 08, Korg Nautilus 88, Kaway ES-120, Yamaha Montage M8X, but that is too expensive. Behringer 100mm motorized faders are so much better than Montage 40/50 mm faders for Orchestral Sounds. Anyways, I am so confused. Have You tried the VPC1? Sensors are on the hammers. I am wondering if I will be able to do the pianissmos and be agile on VPC1 keybed. Your vision is greatly appreciated. Thank You 🙏 Nuno
@PraiseTracks
@PraiseTracks 8 ай бұрын
Nuno, the VPC1 is probably the closest you will find to get an authentic piano feel. Kawai designed it in a similar way to designing its physical piano actions, even down to the escapement. The VPC1 does not have any frills but focuses solely on creating the best piano playing experience. Of course this comes at a cost as it is one of the most expensive controllers. I have also had good experiences with some of the higher end Roland digital piano and controller actions, again the higher end models include the escapement feel. For me not having escapement is not a deal breaker as I am also playing other instruments where the escapement could actually get in the way at times but for a pure piano playing experience that subtle extra physical bump in the keybed helps convey a more realistic experience. For me for cost effectiveness and features the Studiologic SL88: Grand has been a great overall workhorse for me. I hope that helps. Please let me know if you had any additional questions. Joyfully yours!

Hi Simeon! How would compare VSL Fazioli with VILABS Ravenscroft 275 plugin in terms of realism, evolution and versatility? Fazioli takes 400gb against 6gb on Ravenscroft 275. By the way try using a gain reduction side chain compressor with EVENTIDE Blackhole. It will kick in the reverb accordingly with compressor Threshold when You stop playing a phrase, and can keep the long tail reverb a bit out of the mix while you are playing. Thanks! Best wishes, Nuno
@PraiseTracks

I think the Ravenscroft is a wonderful virtual piano that has a very distinctive sound to it. I have heard that many are not happy with the way some of the samples feel compressed and the current state of the UVI Workstation puts other limitations on their libraries (no multi-threaded CPU support). The VSL Synchron pianos are in my opinion the most detailed available and provide so many ways to tailor the sound to suit your particular use case. The Full version is a must, to get the ribbon microphones which are my favorite, as they give you a close and warm sound. You can test drive the VSL Pianos now during their special piano promotion, you would be able to experience them firsthand which I think is ultimately the way to go. Thanks for the Black Hole tip, I will have to give that a try. Also thank you so for watching and the kind support. Joyfully yours.

Thanks for this review as always Simeon. What are your thoughts regarding the Synchron Fazioli vs Production Voices 300 Grand and Pianoteq 8?
@PraiseTracks
@PraiseTracks Жыл бұрын
Pianoteq 8 will give you the most amount of tweak ability as far as shaping the actual piano model and acoustic space, but you still run into some of the limitations of physical modeling, I would love for them to add a Fazioli model in the future. The Production Voices 300 Grand is a wonderful accomplishment and offers a lot of versatility by providing so many mic perspectives. Also, being recorded from a performance stage perspective is also nice. The performance hall there is a little drier than the Synchron stage. It also offers a great value. The SYNCHRON Fazioli is such a huge instrument captured in tremendous detail. I think it comes down to which one captures your heart and your ear. Of course, the cost is a huge factor, especially with the FULL version of the Synchron Fazioli that holds the best overall quality in the mic selections. As others have mentioned, it would be nice to be able to customize your mic selections when purchasing. One of the good things about VSL is the return window. You have a few days to actually experience the instrument before deciding to keep it or get a refund.

These two have been my goto’s for final productions but with the latest v8 update of Pianoteq I’ve actually started using it over the sample libraries on my most recent projects. However, despite how good Pianoteq 8 sounds there are a few areas that could be improved and I’m wondering if the Productions 300 Grand in particular would be a significant upgrade in realism?

@PraiseTracks
@PraiseTracks Жыл бұрын
From a realistic financial standpoint the Production Voices 300 Grand is really hard to beat. It gives you so many mic perspective options and features numerous dynamic layers as well. The Synchron Fazioli is what it is, like a Rolls Royce of virtual pianos. You would really have to be able to support the cost in some way with a project or something that could justify that level of investment. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to experience these pianos and the generosity of the developers. That being said, I am trying to put myself more in the position of an end user and to determine at what level I would be willing to make such a commitment. In the end your needs vs your wants are in direct relation to the reality of finances. Even when looking at Pianoteq Studio, you are not far from $1k but you can always start at a lower entry point and add instruments as you go. I hope it helps and know that I am truly wanting to understand how best to present all of these amazing instruments to you. I never want to be considered a salesperson but one who desires to put these instruments on display so that you can connect with them in some meaningful way to help you decide which one might be a good fit for you personally. With the latest release I’m starting to use it in place of some of my larger sample libraries which was a shock but I’m finding it translates onto other sources much better.
