Buy Who's Lila? on Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/16...
Game Description:
Who's Lila is a point-and-click adventure where, instead of choosing dialogue options, you control the character's face manually.
Life’s never been easy for William, but today is special - a girl named Tanya Kennedy suddenly goes missing and the only thing Will's friends know - he was the one to see her last.
Will you remain secretive and make William act as though nothing happened, or will you let true emotions show through his mask?
In Who's Lila, a specifically trained face-recognizing neural network allows you to make this choice! In dialogue, instead of choosing a text option, input facial expressions by moving parts of the character’s face. The neural network will then analyze the emotion and output the result, thus progressing the plot.
Apart from the struggles provided by your own face, you will be met with a gritty dither-punk world of Who’s Lila. Prepare yourself for dream-like landscapes, surreal architecture, steam-filled factory interiors, and David Lynch-inspired beauty of the industrial and the mundane.
________________________________________________________________
«Sometimes there is fear in the unknown, but we are good detectives and we have to know everything»

David Lynch
Will you make sense of this strange story, or will you lose yourself in the beautiful mystery? Will you try to discover every possible turn of events, or will you stick to a single storyline?
And most importantly, will you be able to answer the ultimate question:
Who is Lila?
Features:
Neural network-powered emotion detection
15 endings and choice-driven gameplay
Steam achievements
Ditherpunk visual style
6+ hours of gameplay
Unlockable palettes
50+ unique soundtrack pieces written specifically for the game
And more..
REVIEWS
“It’s a very unique adventure and the facial expression manipulation isn’t just a gimmick - it’s an integral part of the gameplay that has a big effect on how others react to you”
Alpha Beta Gamer
“I just love the presentation and the quirkiness of the mechanics, but more importantly, the storytelling elements and unsettling atmosphere”
Vulgar Knight
“I did enjoy times I fumbled the expression I was trying to form, taking conversation in a direction I certainly hadn't intended but the game was prepared for. Also, William's face often ends up looking silly, and silly faces are funny.”
Rock Paper Shotgun

"Manful soul" is a reference to a youtuber "manlybadasshero" who specializes in indie horrors, especially ones done in rpg maker. His channel has been going on for well over a decade now and during this time he developed quite a few in-jokes and running gags, one of which is his unique response to the very popular rpg maker prompt of "it's empty" that shows in 99% of rpg horror games when we interact with trashcans. Manly would always follow "it's empty" with "just like my soul". Over time he would add "just like my soul" after every interaction with trashcans, such as "its no longer empty, just like my soul" or "its filled with blood and vomit, just like my soul." Manly was one of the first people who actually played this game when it came out because it was made for his kind of audience, and because of his popularity among indie game devs, the authors of this one decided to add in a little easter egg.

@@anusername8350 Yeah I kept thinking about it, like "Oh okay I know what face to make in this situation. Ah fuck how do faces work, if I lift my eyebrows here will that be bad? If I smile is that creepy? Am I laughing too hard? Am I staring too much? Or not enough? Well okay I'll just go for a simple smile" and then you get hit with a bad reaction anyway, like "you okay? You look sad/scared/annoyed" and it's like FUCK I was trying to be amicable and I did the opposite

Legit when I played I didnt know anything about the game beforehand and I started with the 'normal' go-to-school route and for 90% of it I was just 'oh what a relatable MC man these bad friends calling him a creep I sure hope he isnt getting framed for murder based on his off vibes" (sure took a turn after later on)

Oh fuck yes. One of my truly most favorite stories in video game format. I'm looking forward to see how your play through will go! My partner and I /did/ listen through the entire 7+ hour long analysis of the game by Flawed Peacock and had endless conversations about this game numerous times, it's truly something special and I'm happy for the chance to watch and listen to another perspective of a new player through this story!

This doesn't even try to keep any pretense of being normal and drops you straight in the weird. Watched this over on Toaster's channel so it will be neat to see you discover some of the weirder things built into this.

meanings for the tarot cards you got: the wheel of fortune - change, fate, luck, unexpected events the empress (reversed) - insecurity, repression, lack of growth the hanged man - sacrifice, lack of direction, contemplation (also this one wasn't reversed, the hanged man just looks like that) justice - truth, law, consequence, all the justice-y things

As an autistic person who struggles with showing emotions correctly and at the right times i feel attacked by this game, they even have the emotion chart with different faces on it that traumatizerd me as a kid because it taught me that the only correct way of showing emotions was contorting my face (also unrelated but at around 59:00 the nowak thing is a ref to the game brutal orchestra which i highly recomend if you want a really inovative turn based roguelite)

The whole gameplay loop of emoting cognitively, giving an accidentally false impression of mood, and then people reacting to that distorting the communication further - that whole process hits a little too close to him as a neurodivergent person.
