After the finale of Final Fantathon, I knew the next game we needed to Let's Play was Xenogears, the game that could have been the next Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger, but turned into it's own legendary experience that would eventually lead to the Xenosaga series.

Fun Fact: Andvari, Bart's omnigear, is named after a dwarf in Norse mythology who lived under a waterfall and could turn himself into a fish. Andvari's name means "careful one". He was considered one of the finest blacksmiths in the realm and forged a magical ring he called Andvaranaut--this was also probably what served as Tolkien's inspiration for the rings in Lord of the Rings.

Dialogue around parenthood and perspective change is super relatable. Side note: I just started playing Xenogears with my 17-year-old son with all the good mods… results are pretty phenomenal. Might wanna try them sometime if this game ends up being a favorite of yours.

With specific shaders and the Perfect Build Gameplay/Translation overhaul, half encounter rate. It feels like a straight up remaster. Deathblows now cause status effects, etc.

I'm playing this currently with Perfect Works mod, HD Textures & HD Portrait mod and it's pretty enjoyable compared to how I played this back in 1998. Since Square doesn't give a shit about this IP, its the best we can do. There's a project right now out where they are trying to recreate Disc 2, but it's such a small team so thats going to probably take forever or never get done tbh.

Disk 2 is not that bad. One might say it has a charm to it, the way things are presented. Considering all it had going against it, it really is a miracle Xenogears ended up being as good and functional as it was.

I prefer DIsc 2. Most of my problems are in Disc 1.

when I first played this game I expected citan to be the last boss honestly, he is soooooo powerful, maybe his crazy stats is not a glitch, but in fact citan really is that crazy....

The 2nd disc is amazing btw its so much lore its insane that xenogears isnt even more famous than it is

i don't wanna backseat but youre learning the deathblows wrong You input the deathblow sequence for the one you want to learn over and over again until you learn it. So notice you don't have any square square x ones yet, just keep doing that. Or XX or triangle Square X or the long five button ones.

sooo frustrating how he always uses triangle attacks... he would learn deathblows so much faster if he just did square and x attacks >

I agree. I really wish he would listen to a couple of the suggestions. It really does make the experience of playing this game so much more fun. The later deathblows are just awesome to watch.

@@manpotion They are the type of people who can't play a game without a strategy guide holding their hands walking them thru how to play the game. "OMG ITS SO MUCH MORE FUN WHEN YOU HAVE EVERYTHING SPOILED FOR YOU"
