Side note: I love that you acknowledge the fact that aquamarine is about female friendship. It is undervalued in many movies. That’s why I love Frozen - the fact that the act of true love came from her sister and not a “Prince Charming” is so beautiful and not portrayed often. In all reality we share more love with our family and friends than a significant other most of our lives

I actually often feel the opposite. In the past decade we have gotten pretty much 0 movies in which the love interest (if there is one at all) can take on the role of "true love". Frozen did an amazing job of subverting audience expectations, but ever since then Disney and other animation studios have tried so hard to chase the same wow factor, and it gets tiring. They even retcon their own stories (like Sleeping Beauty, my favorite princess movie) to take away the love story. It has gotten so boring to me. I'd just like a good old love story every now and again. But if they ever try to make one, they'll get eaten alive and dubbed anti-feminist. :(

@@NaraKwonPoDsame. I wish we could just give this a rest. Being in love is not bad or a show of weakness. Being single doesn’t mean you’re strong and independent. Both things are not exclusive to one another and neither one means a woman is better than the other. I miss normal love stories being ok.

There was a year; I want to say 5th or 6th grade, where I genuinely watched she is the man 37 times. In that one year. And to this day if someone says anything close to a line from the movie I will immediately say the next line. I have no choice in it- the spirit of Olivia possesses me.

I loved that in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen it wasn’t a love story with the rockstar. I was so worried when I watched it for the first time this year. But her dad was there, supervising his underage daughter!! More parental supervision when kids go to celebrity parties that are clearly very inappropriate for children to be at.

So fun fact about Wild Child: It was written by Lucy Dahl who is Roald Dahl’s daughter. The film was based on her experience of going to boarding school where she was expelled after starting an accidental fire at 15. That school is Abbot’s Hill School which is where I go to and there’s a rumour that Wild Child was supposed to be filmed there but the school declined. (Also you can definitely see the resemblance between Abbot’s Hill and Abbey Mount)

Aquamarine was a core part of my childhood omg. Claire and Hailey are 13 in the movie, so their crush on Raymond is and innocent crush on an older high school life guard. But I’m pretty sure aquamarine was a little older than them so it’s not as weird she was with Raymond ??

For the most part, I completely agree with your rankings. I feel like this was a time to be alive! These kinds of movies were EVERYWHERE and it was so exciting to look forward to a new one coming out all the time. I wish they were just as popular today for kids. Teen movies were everything for me and my gal pals as teenagers. We’d go to the video store on a Friday after scabbing money from our parents, and we’d get an ungodly amount of snacks and 5 movies for $5. Perfect memories! Angus Thongs and Princess Diaries still get yearly rewatched from me

Omg its been so long since i havent thought about these movies but i just realized that they did literally raised me. I loved watching them and theh where so iconic to me, watching this helped me process that part about my past and even how i see relatilnships and female friendship. Loved this so much 💞. Also blake Lively has the best nose job on the world

@@JENuaryGirl04 I love Legally Blonde too! But the movie I was referring to was the sequel/spinoff which was called Legally Blonde. It starred those twin British blonde girls from The Suite Life. It was aigh, buuuuuut it definitely couldn't compete with the original :)

I know this movie isn’t from the 00’s, but Clueless is one of the most *iconic* teen movies, one cannot talk teen movies/chick flicks without having Clueless there. I think Clueless, Mean girls and Legally blonde are my ultimate favorite chickflicks. ❤️

Love this list! I adore so many of these movies, they’re definitely comfort movies. I grew up reading “Angus Thongs & Full Frontal snogging”. I loved the diary narrative and the humor! It always had me laughing but I didn’t realize they made it into a movie until recently, so I definitely need to track it down and watch it! As questionable as the dance audition scene is, I love Save the Last Dance. When it comes to interracial relationships, it is so easy to think “who cares what people think? It’s our relationship” but this movie did a good job portraying it’s not always that easy, when the people closest to you are also saying the same thing and judging the person you love for the wrong reasons. But great video! I’m wanting to go and have a marathon of these movies!

I read most of the Angus Thongs books at a formative age before seeing the movie. It’s such a time capsule for 2000’s UK slang. also looking back all the characters were really mean??

as a big fan of the Angus, thongs and perfect snogging books, I must say the movie has a lot of it but in a much more Hollywood friendly structure. the books are a bit more raunchy and hilariously funny, and they hardly ever end in neat happy endings like the movie, the Aaron Taylor Johnson character is a bit more of an ass in the books and I live for it. I think they probably have some dated humor for today, but back then they made me laugh so hard, they were so honest about so many adolescent things. the movie is quite different, but not necessarily in a bad way

LOVED the video!! I pretty much agree with you on the god tier movies, I would have put Wild Child in it as well. I have watched Confessions of a Teenage Drama for the first time as an adult and I didn’t like it at all 😅 I actually couldn’t finish it and had to stop it in the middle of the movie 🙈 And I still haven’t seen Aquamarine, but it’s on my watch list 🤞🏼

It’s so funny what movies stick with different people, The Perfect Man is one of my favorite movies because it reminded me so much of my family and my mom and is such a silly feel good movie! The scene Hilary does with Heather Locklear on the pier always makes me so emotional🩷
