@@maxpowr90 you could get a Cheaper Wood with MGT for like 1100 for the same size table + topper. They don't necessarily look worse, depending on your existing furniture.

@@maxpowr90 - I mean, it _IS_ heirloom furniture, that's kind of the point. For the sticker shock though, this item isn't actually available on their site - they only sell it via kickstarters. This is also their highest possible price for sizing and wood selection (which is probably better than giving him the cheapest one and then people finding out it's more expensive).

@@broganwalker4167 Whatever amount of weight would break half an inch of wood. Given that the wood slides into a tight slot and is attached by a magnet, the wood of the cup holder would need to break before it fell out. Unless you sit on them I can't imagine any beverage that could cause a problem. (unless you break out those solid lead cups)

For those who are unfamiliar with Wyrmwood, wenge is one of their highest priced woods. They have much more affordable options for the MGT (like espresso maple)

Well Warhammer for an example wouldn't work however most ground battle simulations based on the real world would work but that's a minority these days. But you make a good point.

For reference, a comparably sized, regular wood table can be upwards of $1,200, so it's not really *that* expensive IF you need and can use it for your regular table, too.

@@oneoveronethirtyseven9161 From what I understand its the material. The Wenge wood is a very rare and very hard to work with material, meaning its going to cost more than if it was Mahogony or anything like that.

"You're not going to lose pieces." That was my first thought once you removed the topper and I saw what it looked like. Your wife mentioning how easy it would be laying the topper on over a game in progress just really cements how brilliant the design actually is. I will definitely begin laying aside from the budget for this. It's good to know your VA career is prospering, by the way.

Gaming tables are really cool and you can get better ones for much cheaper or even build one yourself for $300-$400, most cost of the wyrmwood table is for the exotic wood

I do woodworking. The price is in the hand crafted hardwood. Hardwood isn't cheap and you really can't mass manufacture it. The price is deffinitly not bad, there are a lot of dinning room tables far higher in cost than that table. Woodworker as well and I don't know if I'd want to make a wenge table. It's a lovely wood but it's so rough on tools. I'm a handtool user, though, and I can't even imagine the amount of sharpening time and labor power tools would require.

Yeah I've seen a lot of behind the scenes on this company designing and building. Its pretty incredible. I can unserstand people disappointed they cannot afford one (myself included) but I can appreciate how badass it is

@R J Tell this to a blacksmith who works with a power hammer. No, please do. Please tell every carpenter their usage of power tools; every mason who mixes a batch of cement with a drill; tell everyone who uses some level of modern tools in their gear that they are no longer "artisanal" Or "hand-crafted" Mass production goes throughout its process without oversight. Each piece is meant to be sold to thousands, if not millions, of people. These are using the production method to produce pieces by order, to specification, and within precise specifications enough to be modular. Tools change throughout the years, the difference in automation is whether or not you're paying attention to it throughout the process from beginning to end. We don't paint with sticks and grass or hammer shit out with rocks, because we got better tools now. Figure out why artists don't use them, take your time. I'll let you think about that one.

I've had my Wyrmwood table 11 months and still love it. One of my usual moves for RPPs is to have a dwarven Forge boss battle map in the vault and start the session with the toppers on with just a basic map/scatter terrain. Then when they get to the boss encounter, I can call for a quick break to clear the table and reveal the map underneath. One of my players recently said "no matter how many times you do that, it is still so cool!" There are also optional desks that slide to give a nice elevated space when using the vault. Love those for games like gloomhaven, Twilight Imperium, and scythe where each player has their own space. They are also great for RPGs in the vault if your players like lots of space. They also have a "topper block" for storing the toppers. This is pretty much a must have imo. Can risk damaging those beautiful toppers and it makes a great, compact storage location. I got a mix of the large and small cupholders. The smalls are great for cans and stem ware. Most of my players and myself are pretentious beer people, so the smalls are great for tulip glasses. The only thing we don't really use a whole lot are the component organizers. I got 8 and we typically only use 4 maybe sometimes 6.

I have a question. Does the fact that the bottom is lower than a regular table and you have to deal with a "wooden barrier" and like, not be able to rest your arms on it, does any of that bothers you? Thanks!

@@sabrinas4896 I have the "standard" height legs and the bottom of the vault is 25" from the ground, which is actually the same as my old ikea table. The chairs you use also play a big role in how much leg room you end up with. The arm rests are 3.5" wide, which I personally find wide enough for comfort if leaning against it. There are other tables that have wider armrests which is nice since it also gives more room for DND character sheets or a board game tableau. But then that means less space in the vault, so there is a trade off. I also sprang for their player desks, which are nice for the times you want to use the vault, but each player needs a lot of personal space, like Frosthaven or scythe.

@@ATxEXLR8 there is a rubber gasket where the toppers meet that creates a good seal. I tested it out with some water and left it sitting for 5 minutes and it didn't get through. Though there can be some drips that get to the top of the seal that are hard to get out and might drip down when removed. In that case, to be safe, carefully remove the other toppers and toss a hand towel or paper towel under the seam to catch any potential stray drips onto a game.

I am generally skeptical of most product reviews where the person has received it for free or are paid. I get why companies do it and why people accept the opportunity, but I'm often like "meh, this all sounds very from the horse's mouth" But like my gosh I really enjoyed this review/demonstration. Your review felt fair, off the cuff and honest. Like 10/10 really enjoyed this video.

@@LordDragox412 paying for a review is pretty yikesy but getting stuff for free is super common and a good thing imo, if reviewers had to pay for everything they review you'd only see reviews from people with insane disposable income, car reviewers come to mind but with how many video games come out every day I imagine it would be a substantial burden on basically every industry due to cost, frequency or both

I've thought about a gaming table before, possibly a DIY, or wyrmwood does have a great rep. But I'm worried that some of the "novelties" will just end up not seeing real use long term. so what I really want to see is a follow up review in 6 months to a year. How does it stand up and was it worth it?

@jadespider7526 So randomly came across your comment I've had my table for a little over a year and it's just as good as when I first got it. I purchased the "wargaming" size (I think it's called large + wide now) which is ~4ft by 6ft. I have played many games at it: D&D, MTG, Twilight Imperium, 40k, one page rules, etc and always get compliments even from those who have seen/used it before. Topper is great with longer games to just throw it on and eat during a lunch break. It's also nice to be able to just leave the game out after you're done and just clean up later. Still very sturdy (it's all solid wood). Also I didn't purchase any of the cup holders but have instead 3d printed a bunch and some other things for holding bits and stuff.

I was a bit nervous when I saw the cupholders on the inside of the table. I was worried that stuff might spill onto the nice mat or the game. I was surprised and impressed to see that you could put the cupholders on the outside. I might actually buy this now (when I have the money) Note: (I have not bought or used this table)

Having now seen one of these in person, I will say that the best part is that most people would not know any difference between your "gaming table" and a normal dining room table. A made-in-the-USA hardwood table is reasonably priced in the same price range. "Fancy" furniture brands, like Restoration Hardware, charge more for a basic dining room table of the same size, with no discernable difference in quality (and certainly not better, if there is any difference). Now that I am a father and our family has settled into our first home (I know! A millennial bought a house! Crazysauce!), we plan to buy a Wyrmwood table as our... table. Not for the "game room" or anything (I'm still a millennial... the house is small), but as our one table for everything. Well done, Wyrmwood.

My dad actually made his own game table. It has the pieces that you can take off or leave on in order to eat on and the inside is like a poker table, cushioned feel. He was so proud afterwards.

The multiple dining top panels seem so nice. All of the gaming tables I've seen have just one heavy piece, and handling one of those around walls or windows is a recipe for disaster.

The table topper seems so nice if you're playing a game with minis like dnd. Aside from being able to leave the pieces where they are week to week, it would make setting up any dungeon titles way nicer.

Felt seems problematic with cleaning. Magnetic tabletop means if you spill, it could get into the gaps and drip INTO the table's felt.

This is a non issue with this table. There are gaskets between each magnetic topper preventing any spillage going through and down into the play area. They have a video where they throw a full bucket of water onto the top plates, and there is like a drop or two getting through at maximum. The only thing about this table is it’s incredibly difficult to purchase. They allow you to make a custom table but don’t sell them on their website. You have to go to kickstarter and purchase a coffee table than “refuse” the coffee table and that money goes toward a different purchase that you somehow have to customize over email and tell them how you want it. I know this because I attempted to buy one and even emailed their customer service because it was so confusing. Andrew was very helpful in getting me to understand their difficult purchasing process. Thanks Andrew!

The ease of use here is quite ingenious and convenient! Putting the toppers over the game and taking a break to eat with such ease, is probably great for the people that play a lot of boardgames! The smaller modular pieces are also so smart. I'd definitely look into this if I was a boardgame enthusiast.

Made my own years ago, this caught my eye because it looks so similar. Difference is mine has a TV inside with a felt cloth that can go over it, and the table surface once removed can slot into the sides as extensions. My metal cup holders also be a bit deeper lol. This has more surface area than mind does, though. Not counting the tv (I was originally going to sell it) that was 150$ in materials and made for a fun project. Later on I made a two-player arcade control unit that slots into the sides too, and it's great. Edit: I should note mine is not real hardwood, it's dense melamine board with a wood texture lamination, so it was very inexpensive to work with

I think my only concern is that it's such a nice table, I'd feel like a filthy racoon if I ate anything in it's immediate vicinity, let alone *on* it. And probably die of an anxiety attack if I got so much as a tiny scratch on it! ...But I also realize those are entirely me-centric issues, and if I played enough boardgames (or tabletop wargames - I do miss my toy soldiers a bit), something like this would be incredible. Thankfully I have *nowhere* I could possibly put it even if I had the money, so your insidious wiles won't work THIS time, Mr. ProZD. Maybe. Possibly. Potentially. ...shit, they come in cherry wood. That's tempting as hell.

Cool table, but does it prevent any spilled liquids from falling into the game area below when everything is properly aligned up top? It looks like a spilled glass of cranberry juice or wine would ruin everything below one of the many cracks.

I like the cup holders slotting in with magnets. My table I got from a different company a long time has one the slot and snaps in, and the snaps break on them, so the magnets are a brilliant aspect. Them sitting inside and outside is nice too.

my dining table isnt even used for dining. just on birthdays do we sit and take pics around it, otherwise, we eat around the kitchen bench. as for gaming or jigsaws, that's when the dining table comes in handy.. but must be packed up again by the next birthday. the cupholders are not primarily held by the magnets, they are slid into a slot/gap on the side of the table. the weight of the cup rests on about half an inch of wood, which should be enough to hold a large cup filled with any drinkable liquid. so as long as you don't sit on the cupholders it should be fine.

Is it normal for gaming tables to be so 'deep' though? Let's say you're playing cards and want a felt surface. The high rim would make arm resting uncomfortable. But what do I know. I suppose it's handy for storing bulky game items if there are any that are 4" high.

Depends on the table. Most tables built specifically for D&D are about this deep.

The table was designed for ttrpgs, where people use lots of miniatures. Also, Wyrmwood has another table called the prophecy that has a wheel that you can use to raise and lower the play surface.

I am pretty sure the height of that is totally adjustable with a crank. You could even make it flush with the top like a normal table (I think? Just learned about this table today) Edit: this is only available on a much more expensive model not shown in this video

Compared to a similar table from the big furniture store around here, the price is super competitive! It starts to come up once you add the accessories. Definitely gonna look into this instead of a regular dinning table for the new house!

FWIW, my Cherry MGT table and topper and all my accessories (6 cup holders & component sorters) all together cost less than this table alone (let alone the toppers and such). Wenge is just expensive. I mean, all the tables are "expensive" but some are more affordable than others.

I'm curious about the strength of the cupholders since they're magnets. They seem pretty sturdy but if I have a friend who regularly brings their big gulp cup or something I don't want it to go crashing to the floor (or worse, all over the game/felt mat insert). Do you know about how much those cups can carry, weight-wise?

I talk to so many people at Wyrmwood during PAX’s. They are friends with my friends who work with a non-profit called Take This and so I always make sure to visit when I can. The people at Wyrmwood are kind, caring, hilarious, and superb at their craft. I strongly recommend buying from them, as I have a number of their beautiful dice vaults

I really like this table. I would certainly get it in a cheaper wood of course but it's been awhile since I've been excited over a peice of furniture. I used to have weekly game nights with friends prior to covid and I remember the table size was our biggest hang-up depending on the board game. Sometimes you didn't even have space on the table to rest your arms, this however comes with built in arm rests. If taken care of, im sure this table would live long enough to see its worth.

Are the cup-holders intended to be used for like, game pieces, or actual cups with drinks? If the latter, are the magnets strong enough so that a full cup wouldn’t risk weighing the holder down and spilling in the mat or on the floor

Also interested in the answer to this. I think there is something at work with the wood being wedged in so it cant fall down as the piece would hit into the top of the wedge but its hard to tell.

That satisfyingly loud clicking sound should answer your question...it seems top notch..as they should be for $120 a piece. It should hold all kinds of snacks too.

No, the table casts "Create or destroy water" to delete the liquid from existence, and then casts prestidigitation on top to make sure the surface is spotless. It also uses "mage armor" to be resistant to scratches. After all, it's made from Wyrm's wood. Can't expect anything less from a material like that.

For the most part no. They have gaskets on each of the topper leaves. This helps prevent the majority of liquid from going through the table. Wyrmwood has a youtube channel (found the link to their test: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nLl0isKEtcycgqM.html) where they demonstrate it through a few of their videos. It does a really good job, but the video explains it the best.

probably a little bit it does seem to have a slot and ridge that might stop more than normal but it would be a good idea to use a table cloth or something.

Wyrmwood had a video out there showcasing what would happen. There are rubber gaskets between the topper panels, and spillage is at an absolute minimum. Iirc they dump an entire bucket of water on the table, and just a little bit drops down to the play surface and only when removing the toppers.

@@druyv Yeah but that's something they did, you can't really trust it. They would know the exact way to put the things together and they don't want to see it fail, some goofball online might not do it perfectly if there's an easy way to mess it up.
