Today we’re comparing the Apple iPhone 13 vs Samsung Galaxy S22. Both fantastic phones but there are some key differences you’ll want to consider. Both the iPhone 13 and Galaxy S22 start at $799 for 128GB (£779/£769). The iPhone 13 comes in Midnight and the Galaxy S22 comes in Phantom Black. The iPhone 13 weights in at 174g, feels more dense in the hand compared to the 168g Galaxy S22. Both phones are IP68 certified. The iPhone 13 and Galaxy S22 each have 6.1” OLED displays. The use of OLED means each have high contrast and the pixel count mean text and details are clear. Watching videos, reading messages, playing games, look great these displays. The iPhone 13 has the notch, which has become a recognisable part of the design. It does cover more of the display compared to Samsung’s implementation. Which uses a hole-punch camera. The iPhone 13’s notch does pack some tech. FaceID is the most reliable face unlock in any phone. While the S22’s under screen ultrasonic finger print sensor is great too. The iPhone 13 features a dual lens camera system. Where the Galaxy S22 has a triple lens cameras system, adding a telephoto lens. In photos, I found the iPhone 13 to be a bit more accurate when it comes to colour reproduction and skin tones. While the Galaxy S22 has more saturated colours, making photos pop more. In terms of sharpness both camera systems perform very well. When it comes to low light photography, Apple’s night-mode, as well as Samsung’s Nightography are stunning. Creating light where there is none. I do like the telephoto lens on the S22 and miss having this on the iPhone 13. While Samsung has come a long way in their video quality. Video from the iPhone 13 is just better. The camera systems on the iPhone 13 and Galaxy S22 deliver quality results. But I prefer the slightly more natural images and better video from the iPhone 13. As a power user I use my phone all day: sending messages, emails, watching KZfaq and posting to social media. On the iPhone 13 I get 7-8 hours of screen on time with mixed normal use. In the real world this means the iPhone 13 lasts the full 9-5 work day and evening with 20-30% remaining. By comparison on the Galaxy S22 I get around 6 hours of screen on time. The Galaxy S22 lasts a full work day but not evening without a top-up. When comes to battery life, the iPhone 13 has the clear advantage. Both the iPhone 13 with it’s A15 bionic chip and the Galaxy S22 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, perform very well! Switching between open apps, editing photos, gaming - both phones feel snappy and keep up well! However, there is a level of integration that only the iPhone has. Apple makes the hardware and software and this creates a phone that is even more smooth to use than the Galaxy S22. In terms of software support. Samsung promises 4 years of software support which is great and far ahead of any other phone on the Android side, but still falls short to the 5-6 years Apple provides. Comparing operating systems comes down to is this. iOS is more stable and smooth to use. Where Android allows for more customisation. As someone who is in the Apple ecosystem with my Airpods, Apple Watch and who uses my phone for personal and work use, reliability is key. That is why for me iOS and the iPhone 13 is the better choice. On top of the ecosystem and OS, battery life and performance are categories I value highly, areas where the iPhone 13 has the advantage over the Galaxy S22. Which phone will be better for you? That depends on how you use your phone and which of the key smartphone elements we looked at, you value most.

Same here, I have a 12 Mini 256gb and S22 256gb on TMO. They are born great phones, but for me, at the end of the day, Android always wins out. Now that the bike quality, style and user experience gap is completely closed, the Samsung is a great choice for many. I noticed that their bloatware is much reduced from my previous Samsung days. Either way, there is no bad choice here.

As i wasn't used to small sized phones S22 felt really small in my hands but then I came to know about S21 Fe launched earlier this year. Had the perfect size and battery for me. Camera doesn't hold back here as well. Very capable. I saved 10k (Indian Rupees) but there's no regrets.120hz screen is a treat to the eyes and as I love content streaming, the notch would really annoy me. Excellent video Dion! Because I've been using Samsung for almost 10 years now, I didn't know iPhone had that "notch" on the selfie cam... being so adjusted to the minimalistic look on Samsung, the notch would be difficult difficult for someone like me to get used to lol! Very glad to hear iPhone's battery life has improved significantly these days! In 2013, I had to leave Blackberry and choose between iPhone and Samsung. I chose Samsung partially for the better battery life, as iPhone's did not compare at the time. Nowadays, for anyone who does not use their phone for work, and have fewer screen time hours, either iPhone or Samsung would work just fine! I do have a question for you- prior to this video series, had you ever extensively tried a Samsung phone? You certainly looked as though you enjoyed your experience doing this trial and comparison on your channel, and it appears as though there has been significant growth on your channel as well! Not certain if this was directly related to this series, as your general content is absolutely incredible! But if so, that is so cool! Thanks again for doing this trial and all these comparison videos! I'm certain they've opened up the eyes of anyone using the opposite product, as well as given them a chance to see both products and features side by side, and learn new things as well! Keep up the incredible work, and a huge congratulations on your impressive progress Dion! 😃

I'm happy we finally reached this point in time when top Android and iOS devices are priced the same, so it's no longer argument of the past "iPhone is expensive so it's better". Personally I was using Android all my life, got iPhone 13 Pro to try out iOS but I missed customization so much I went back to S22 and Pixel.

i love the look and feel of the S22plus. the iphones are too boxy and heavy, these days the eco systems are the same, Samsung offers everything Apple does plus they partner with Microsoft and Google and i need their features more over anything IOS currrenly has such as split screen, app pop out, superior notifcations, customisable everything, secure folder, side loading of apps, always on display, dual install of apps, active widgets, reverse power charge, USB C , google assistant, can connect more devices to the usb port, Samsung DEX is AWESOME, and no stupid notch, pair all that with the galaxy watch 4 and samsung Buds which are absoultely flawless, and the fact its alot cheaper, i just cant justify going back to Iphone.

It feels so weird to say that the iPhone is the option most people (unless you don't like ios) SHOULD get (just more stable and solid across the board) but the Samsung is what you WANT to get bc of its better aesthetics and 120hz screen (despite the battery deficiencies, running hot, at best on par camera system with slightly worse video) . The IPhone for a long time was always that phone you wanted but shouldn't really get bc the price was too high, but here, with the s22 coming at pretty much the same price, the roles flip.

I've been on Samsungs for years but I have an Apple Watch and a Mac anyway, so several months ago I decided to give iPhone a go and I bought iPhone 13 Pro. But now, I've just come back to Samsung (S22 Plus) and I'm so happy I have! In short, what I couldn't stand with my iPhone was: (A) the lack of a clear notifications panel that would light up on the always on display (so I never knew when anyone texted me or called me in my absence as my iPhone screen was just black at all times; but even when unlocked, it's still tricky to see the notifications you missed, as they do NOT show in the top bar (unlike Samsung) because there is that notch taking up all the space on top - and so you have to swipe the top bar down every now and then just to check if there are notifications there, brrrrr); (B) the lack of a go back button or swipe (say, you're inside an app but there's sometimes no way to go one step back and you need to start from the main view again and again, or sometimes there is, but it's in different places each time depending on the app, so returning to the previous window is not quick, you need to locate the return button first); (C) how you can't use you iPhone simply as a storage of files or photos, so it was tricky to even get the photos from my old Samsung onto my iPhone (you have to do it via iCloud somehow and that has limited free storage); (D) how there's no option to lock the screen simply by double tapping on it as you can with the Samsung (which is very convenient when your phone is on your desk), you have to always press the button on the side; (E) how the iPhone is so bumpy and has that notch, that it's not comfortable in your pocket, doesn't lie flat on the desk even when inside the case and doesn't offer good watching experience because of that notch; (F) how it doesn't even show you the battery percentage (wth is that, really?); (H) how when you turn off wifi, bluetooth or location, it turns back on automatically in several hours, apple doesn't even allow you to decide that (lol!); (I) how you can't unlock it just by looking at it (need to swipe too)... The list goes on really. So these are the minuses. Any upsides? Well, it integrates very well with any Apple devices you have, understandably. Also, the polished iOS UI looks quite pretty (I'd say prettier than Samsung, though that is also fine). And using Siri voice commands was pretty convenient to manage the phone when your hands are busy. But that was probably it for me. Otherwise it was an inconvenient brick that I couldn't use quickly on the go because of how not user friendly many things were (as per above). Samsung is flying in my hands in comparison. I'm looking at it now - it shows my notifications on the black screen, so I know who messaged me; I take it off the desk - immediately it's on just from my glance and ready to go! Complete with the return swipe so I can very quickly return one window back if I need to. Quick double tap - and it's off and back on the desk. All in a matter of moments.

I understand the dilemma, after spending so much on the iPhone's it becomes hard to look at it's shortcomings....you want to justify your purchase in the end. You just fix it in your mind that it's the best phone in the world, flex it around and pat yourself. Deep inside you know you've fallen into a marketing trap of a status symbol. But you keep telling your mind it's the best decision you've made, necessary to increase your productivity and work-flow...along those lines. Deep inside you know Android is more productive as it's less restrictive, you know you could transfer files faster with a usb type-c cable but you want to look cool with Air-drop. You try to overlook the Samsung flagships unless Apple introduces those same features 2 years down the line. You fall for the Apple eco-system which you don't have and slowly spend a lac on macbook and 50k on an Apple watch.Deep inside you know that Pin is the most secure option & Finger-print sensor Is secure enough but you still compromise with the notch for the sake of it. Sometimes you wonder, why no reviewer ever mentioned that the back gesture isn't constant on iPhone's or how you can't send files using bluetooth in your iPhone or how there's so much bloatware like Apple Tv, Facetime, iMessage etc that we don't use in India at all (It's WhatsApp here). On a wild trip you quickly realize Apple Maps isn't as accurate & reliable in India so you pull out your dusty old Android with Google Maps and it shows you the way. Then later on you secretly install Google maps on your Iphone. You also then install the Google Chrome as it's simply better. You appreciate the Instagram's integration on iPhone's as the reviewers told you but then you see your dusty Android friend smartly using the superior stock camera instead of the poor built-in Instagram camera for better quality. He then tells you Samsung has already integrated Instagram & even Snapchat now btw. Also, while typing phone numbers in ios dialer, you find out that names don't pull-up like on Android. You find it silly at first but then realize that iPhone's don't use a T9 dialer and nor do they have call-recording like on your dusty old Android. As the days pass by, you realise the file system doesn't really exist, it's for namesake. Some of your downloads are visible only in Safari browser. You can't download movies or mp3 files directly. Meanwhile your Android friend is bundling Apk files, using zip, rar, hiding files with single touch on Android's File manager. You secretly slide him a pen-drive for those torrent files as torrent on iPhone's simply doesn't... Ok let's not talk about it. You immediately realize that how your Android used to talk nicely with sd-cards, cables, mouse and various Operating systems like Windows, Linux etc...not the case with ios. You see itunes app as a saviour but then you realize it's specifically designed by Apple to make a mockery out of you for doing things not permitted in strict Apple ecosystem You see your friends using Google Pay and Samsung Pay but you can't use your Apple pay as it simply doesn't work in India. You suddenly realize that all the apps you ever installed on Android were mostly free, either from playstore or from the browser...no workaround as such on Apple app store, pay and get the useful stuff. You're happy about getting 5-6 years of updates but you quickly realize you don't get next year iPhone's fancy features be it Cinematic mode or Night-mode. Meanwhile your typical Samsung gave Night mode or Single take on their budget devices with an update. Breaking the iphone 13's screen could cost you unncessarily 25k (cuz India), so you add 2-3 screen protectors and a hefty case with a shining visIble Apple logo (that's most important). You don't talk about fast charging or your selfie camera (meh). You quickly realize that animations on Ios are smooth but it too is plagued by bugs, you surely miss how Android managed notifications. You get bored looking at the ugly icons as your beloved wallpaper is almost invisible. To Edit your favorite photo, you can't share it from gallery to Snapseed/Lightroom, you've to open that editing app and search your pic within it. Gone are the days of using unlimited storage and Google Photos as you've just one Google Account (Ios bugs with multiple of those). It doesn't like to copy/paste beyond text or image and it surely won't talk nicely with your android watch. You can't move stuff, be it your Files or Icons...you just share files to other apps and save it there (let that sink in). You appreciate the performance of the beastly Bionic chip but you quickly realise there's not much you can do with it, multi-tasking like Android's...Nope! You absolutely love the powerful M1 chip but then you understand that Games and Editors etc still run better on Windows and the nerdy programmer's still stick to their Linux or Windows suite for better and deeper control. You wonder why no-one talks about the Apple issues on forum's like be it reddit or quora. You certainly miss how Android community used to together raise an issue, discuss, share stuff on Android Froum's like Xda, reddit etc After a while, you notice you've increased your productivity as you've started spending less time with your Iphone as it's more restrictive and nothing special has to happen now. You stop tinkering with your iPhone as it doesn't allows it...it stops all your attempts of making it your own unique phone with your taste. It prefers to be left out. It's like your sibling, you learn to live with it however terrible it may be. As the new iPhone's launch, the charm of your old iphone quickly dies out. All your friends upgrade to the new one and you feel left out & intrigued to buy the new one but now you know it's the cycle of trap. Out of nowhere, you see your old friend using dusty Galaxy Note 9+ but he's still paid respects in the Android community. He doesn't pretend, neither he's bothered about status symbol, in-fact he's quite reckless with his phone cuz he uses his phone as a tool to get his things done. You cheekily ask him, "still using the dusty Galaxy Note 9+ pal?". To which he replies, "I prefer to use a custom tailor-made suit instead of a generic-fit for all. Not only does it fits me perfectly, I also feel more comfortable wearing and using it." Cheers

Every year I ponder leaving the Apple ecosystem and giving another phone a chance. It's a bit like trying to escape the sun, in that I inevitably keep coming back and getting another iPhone, purely on the basis they are always by far the most well-rounded devices. Some Android phones may excel in particular areas, but inevitably fall short in others. Sony has a great camera but is too fiddly to use everyday. Samsung has a great screen but terrible design. Google marginally falls short (but does very well) in almost all areas. Apple just gives you an 8/9 out of 10 in every area.

@@ad5772 I don’t really understand what you want to say but if you want to consume content you can get either phone, it’s not like the iPhone doesn’t have a screen, they have the same screen, the Samsung being only more saturated, which isn’t the best thing in every case, both phones are good, I don’t get how some people just can’t use the iPhone because you can’t customize some random thing that nobody care about, now that apple has customization on the Lock Screen I’ve seen people say it’s useless because you don’t use your lock screen for 10 minutes, you don’t use you Home Screen also, so, what’s the point in customization. Anyway, for me the better phone would be an iPhone, reliable camera, great performance, much better speakers than on any Samsung device, and the part that I care about the most is the software, no phone can compete, apple did it the best and it’s still the best, animation are flawless, mostly, idk the android ui just gets on my nerves so many times, I look at every detail, even when I close an app and see it jitters or has weird animations it just drives me insane, idk why but it does. And I really don’t care about split screen, it’s a phone it’s useless, you get a 3 cm app, you might see your reflection in that, I’ve seen a girl say it’s so useful and much faster, she tried to make one app bigger and took her twice the time it would to swipe to another app, but sorry for this stupid book I just wrote here

But if you're gonna judge a phone only by the natural tone of the camera, then there is no competition with iphone. I've been a samsung user since the galaxy S2. One thing I hate about Samsung phones is battery life. I currently own the S21 and battery life is absolute crap. The battery comparison isn't fair as the S22 is judged with 120hz display while the iPhone 13 with 60hz. Should you dial back the refresh rate on the s22 to 60hz you may find it has better battery life. But 6 hrs while running 120hz is very good for a phone that size.
@joek696

Its not worth it then, if im lowring the display rate to 60 to have a better battery that barely lasts to iphone. It depends on personal preferences after all, i care about the battery more than screen refresh rate.

There is no way the s22 would outlast the iphone 13 even on 60hz. I've had 13 pro and s22+ and the 13 pro does still have a slightly better battery (especially in standby). And the regular s22 has even less battery capacity. Also, 6hrs is probably mostly on wifi, my s22 plus (exynos) barely make it to 5 hours with heavy usage on lte and gps.

Iphone lack in customization.. 3.) There is a new feature in android 12 called protect battery which I am able to use the charger to power my samsung s22 ultra bypassing the battery so that I will keep my battery unused.. I can also bring battery case & a power bank if I am outside.. as long as I keep the phone's battery at 95% it will use the external power source.. 3.) S22 ultra has camera a better camera than iphone 13 pro max.. also better larger screen.. But both iphone & samsung are awesome phones.. many smartphones nowadays are mostly very nice & very capable.. but for me the best for now is my s22 ultra..
