Good morning to everyone. Good to see y’all back again. So glad you are able to have a bathroom in the house again. My house was built in 1921 and had to redo the bathroom….it was not fun, but I pushed through and now, it is the nicest room in the house, so far. Have a great week. God Bless.

You can also use spray foam under the tub. With space under the floor to get to it. I've gone under to drill hole (Small holes) the foam fills the void nicely. You just have to make sure there is room for it to expand and not lift.

If you haven't added mortar yet, consider spray foam. It does add structural strength, and stops thermal gaps. With the walls open on the ends it would be easy.

Spray foam under tubs is a myth and not proper for installation.

Any reason you can’t use spray foam to bed the tub? Maybe use some old insulation board and then spray foam those scraps in place? It will be quiet and warm😉.

The industry standard is using a mortar bed and most manufacturers will not warranty the use of foam under the tub.

If you had done the buildout on the side of the shower that has the plumbing, it would have given you the room for all the water lines and controls.

Great stuff spray foam is not structural foam. Any foam used under a tub should be structural foam. The standard is to use mortar for a rock solid install.

Mortar is preferred but you could use mixture of sand and cement to use it as substrate support under the shower pan.

Hello guys keep up the good work and here in Louisiana I’ve seen the plumbers use Sheetrock mud to support under the tub surrounds. Just pour a 5 gallon bucket in the middle of the tub and when you set the tub on it, it will squeeze out across the bottom then let it set for 3-5 days to dry.

The use of sheetrock mud is not recommended. Are you sure it’s not plaster paris, which is another common material used?

Unless you have a bank loan to build your home, yes everything is expensive but it’s pay as you play. That’s assuming you are working on the house as you can afford the next phase, if so that’s a positive. I’m happy I’m not in Alaska at this time. I happen to be in Florida right now, it’s 51*F at 4:50pm and I’m FREEZING. Watching from Panama City Florida, USA. 🇺🇸🦅 No Snow Just Breeze !

I’m probably too late but you’re a good size man put a solid bed of mortar, otherwise when you stand on a part without mortar you will feel it. Plus with your kind of weather it will have some movement ( I think). Your house is coming together nicely considering you’re away part time and let’s not forget about the wife’s contribution while you’re away. She deserves a lot of credit and I’m sure you appreciate every bit of it.

Something to consider is you can spray foam the bottom of the tub to support it. I’ve had success doing this personally with several bathrooms. Mortar is probably better but I have not had any problems with the expanding foam. Lots of videos out there of others doing it. Food for thought.

The plumbing getting fully installed will make a huge difference to your home life. I don't get why you went for that shower/tub ...the tub is tiny. It's not a size for an adult to lie in for taking a bath. Couldn't you either put in a full sized tub, or alternatively use a shower cabinet and not have the tub at all ? I liked the drone shots at the start. It's a tough part of the world to live in, but beautiful. Happy New Year from Scotland.

A standard size tub in the US is usually 60 inch overall length. You can get longer or shorter but that is the most common size stocked at home improvement centers.

This is the guest bathroom and will not be used much. Our master bath will have a custom tiled shower.

Did you put a p-trap on your washing machine drain line ?? You probably put it on after you went through the floor ??? If not you'll know right away 😢😮 hahaha ! 😂😂Yes, I reworked the plumbing and put the p-trap in the wall then ran to a vent line.
