I had a pet rat in college, kept him hidden. He was my buddy, I'd curl up on my bed and watch Netflix, and he'd snuggle up with me. Basically, rats are deeply social, and able to form bonds. Also, his name was Romeo. He had a tendency to dive into women's cleavage. Like he'd jump from my shoulder into any visible cleavage. It was a good name, he was a good rat.

My PTSD, autism, social anxiety and depression make it hard to work regular hours, but I'm a freelance blogger. I'm alone at home while my wife works during the day. I have "made friends" with the animals like squirrels, birds, and deer in my yard. So I found that relatable. I also liked Antonio's room. I'd be super stoked to have that room. It's funny how Antonio was taught to fear Bruno but they had a lot in common.

See, my opinion about Camilo's verse is that he heard all that stuff from other kids in town. The townsfolk built him up to their kids as some mythical demon-like figure capable of ruining everything, and the other kids passed that knowledge to him.

I agree, and perhaps winder if he may have had precocious memory of being a bit scared of the sort of reclusive uncle who was already withdrawing from the family. Personally I have no memories before age 7 or 8 is, but I know some folks have earlier memories so perhaps Mira and Camilo have that difference as well!

I think that might have actually been the case. I remember hearing somewhere that one of the people behind this movie said Camilo doesn't remember Bruno any better than Mirabel does. He just heard a bunch of rumors and exaggerated them because, and I quote, "That's what Camilo does." I guess it fits into his character as the loud, theater kid in the family.

I'm autistic with OCD, as is my dad, and from the time they were singing that song I was thinking "so... he picks up on stuff others miss and doesn't know what's inappropriate to say in normal conversation?" and immediately I loved him. Then, we actually see him on screen, and everything about the way he moves and has to keep looking away to keep a conversation going and has no idea how to end a conversation made me think "That's Me!" I was so excited. Even the way he narrates his OCD things as he does them is exactly the way my dad and I both do it. And of course, there's his autistic body language being misinterpreted as villainous skulking that was super relatable. Being seen as a threat to others when really all you want is to play with your beloved pets is maybe the most autistic OCD thing I know. Bruno is my patronus.

The moment I saw Bruno and how he was characterised my immediate thought as an autistic persona was "oh, he be me". And yeah, while the fact he was shunned by the towns people and his family is likely a huge if not _the_ reason for him being single, I was already in projection mode so Bruno is asexual now. He's an asexual who loves to drown himself in the thoughts of hectic romatic storylines where the "bedroom dancing" is just a plot point used to create more tension and drama bétween characters. That's just who he is to me now.

I felt like Bruno was autistic in that he has "quirks" that are really just a misunderstanding of his positive traits. And that causes him to be shunned by his family, that misunderstanding. Then the shunning lets only the lies and misrepresentations propagate, without the person they're "not talking" about there to correct them. Sadly I think many autistic, neurodiverse, and/or mentally ill people suffer this way. Our presence is not welcomed in spaces where people talk about us all the time, like with the ironically-named organization Autism Speaks.

A fact we _need_ to talk about: The official script for Encanto *_confirms_* ND Bruno! He has OCD, and some of the superstitious behaviors (knocking on wood is the biggest one) are actual compulsions. Of course, this is set in roughly the 1950s, in a town that's been next to impossible to leave and harder to find for 50 years, so technology is more 1890-1900s, plus a distinct lack of medical science outside of eyeglasses and Julieta's cooking. Any neurodivergency is far more likely than not to be undiagnosed, and probably viewed as a sign of a possession or fairy changeling or something. On a side note, a common theory is Camlio saw him and his rats late at night as a small child after Burno hid, Burno yelped his name in surprise, and Camilo fainted. Hence, the story behind: ♪ seven foot frame ♪ ♪ rats along his back ♪ ♪ when he calls your name, it all fades to black ♪ Edit: fixed a important typo. Thank you everyone for the likes!

I agree that Alma started the whole not talking about Bruno thing after he left -- considering that the root cause of all the family's intergenerational trauma is her not being able to face her grief at the loss of her husband in order to heal properly, it's very in-character for her not to be able to face losing her son either. Also, I think it's noteworthy that Bruno's response to Mirabel's "After I save the miracle, I'm bringing you home" is to go into his knock on wood ritual -- a superstition meant to keep bad things from happening, but sometimes also used when someone says something good that you want to happen. Bruno wants to be fully included in his family again.

When I first watched this, I cried. I’m neurodivergent, and a lot of Bruno’s manerisms are similar to my quirks (including being the fun older relative, ritualistic Behavior and talking to myself). And my diagnosis has been a long road and hard on my family. But as I was watching it, what hit me the most was my six year old little sister’s reaction. When she saw Bruno’s character, she looked up right me and just smiled. This wasn’t her first time watching a neurodivergent character (Entrapta takes that honour). But it was the first time she truly understood what exactly I am in my head.

Even if I'm not, I can still super relate to her, because we have a lot of same behaviors, and I just love her as a character! I also really really appreciated that she didn't have to change as much as her friend said to adjust having her around, and learning to except her differences. I mean, she did learn, and grew as a person, but so did her friends. I really appreciated that, because you don't see it enough. It's usually all on the Nuro divergent character to learn to behave better or whatever, and less on the NT people.

So, is Dolores' super hearing a disability? I've heard of some people whose hearing is so hightened, it qualifies as a disability. I assume because super hearing can be quite overstimulating.

As someone who has tinnitus (it’s a hearing symptom that is constant ringing from no external forces) and overall a generally sensitive hearing it is very overstimulating having to deal with both the ringing and everyday noises. It’s hard to mask it in public as it sends me to flinch a lot and close to crying in pain (god it’s so fucking painful I hate it). Using headphones helps and muffles majority of the intensity of ringing and outside noises. It also causes headaches and can be very hard to sleep with, Dolores is relatable ngl.

I suppose, maybe. I have autism with one of the parts of that being that I’m incredibly sensitive to noise. It’s to the point where I rarely take my headphones of and if I do then almost all noise is overwhelmingly loud, things like a kettle boiling, a turned on hoover, the microwave timer, even Turing on the shower are so loud for that I have to cover my ears until it either quiets down, I get used to it and it stops completely. I don’t really know about others but I know my parents (who are both NT) don’t have these problems. I also find crowded places to be a nightmare, places like cafes, restaurants and canteens can be so loud that I have to step out for a while.

What makes me find this Even more interesting, is that Bruno was promising her she‘d have a good life. She probably interpreted this as having the „Perfect life“ that was forced on to her, but he probably meant that she would have a life she would like herself, like she did in the end.

Thanks for mentioning Bruno may be queer because somehow I hadn't thought of it. One thing that really bothers me about a certain subset of the fandom, is people saying that the fandom's queer and nd headcanons take away from the poc rep. But i don't see why it would. being poc and queer or nd isnt mutually exclusive. And not to mention both nd and queer ppl are vastly portrayed as white, so seeing an nd queer character is good. i've seen some arguments along the lines (in particular to nd headcanons) about certain nd traits as being cultural traits. Once again, they are not mutually exclusive. For example, people like to bring up the fact that bruno's superstitious routines are cultural superstitions as an argument as to why his rigorous following of them aren't related to autism or ocd, but if these superstitions are something that he was raised with, it could very well be a routine he finds comfort in as an nd person. all of this being said, even if all the characters are straight and nt, i don't think there's anything wrong with relating to certain aspects of their character as a queer and/or nd person, and it's okay to feel seen thru that character whether they were actually meant for that.

Thank you so much for voicing exactly how I view Pepa's feelings on her brother. It can be so much easier to get mad at someone you love. I honestly assumed she had to bottle up her feelings- not stick up for him because HER powers make her the second most chaotic family member after Bruno. Once the "worst" person gets banished, people who are overly critical, like Alma, will start to criticize the second to last person, who then becomes the new scapegoat. I saw this as self preservation on top of the frustration and sadness over the loss.

I am so glad KZfaq recommended your channel to me! I love this video so so much! Bruno is my son! He might be almost twice my age, but he is my son dammit! I will protect him till I die! He deserves all the love in approval in the world! The man put himself in isolation for 10 years to protect his niece, and, when he thought his mother was chastising his niece again, he threw himself as the scapegoat again! I love him so much! Also, I really really love fanfictions that explore what happens after the movie with him and his relationship with his family. I especially like ones where his family, obviously outside of Dolores Mirabel and Antonio, learn where he's been for the last 10 years. So many feelings! I love it! 😀🤗🤗🤗 Again awesome video! Fucking love in your contacts! ❤️😀

So many great characters in the movie, but Bruno is my favorite. I want him to be happy and have a successful career as an actor/mouse theater pioneer. I don't know how you go through everything he has and not be screwed up in some way, whether or not you were neurotypical to begin with. And I don't believe he was ever neurotypical. It's equally wonderful and heartbreaking to see that it didn't destroy his kindness, courage and compassion. He is a very good, misunderstood, horribly traumatized man who deserved better. It would be interesting to see him re-enter the community. That is going to be so much harder than making up with his biological family (not that it should be easy either, some people were worse than others). I loved his defense of Mirabel too. He sees so much of himself in her. His confusion, shyness, and need to apologize for just being him almost brought me to tears. The line people only remember when a prophecy doesn't go the way they want and then blame me hit so hard. Eventually people just assumed any misfortune was his malicious doing. So not fair. I liked Mirabel's mom, but I did not like the other sister nor their mother. Part of that was how they treated Bruno. However, you made a good point. They didn't hate him. They missed him and were sad he left. They didn't know if he would ever come back. The sister didn't understand what had happened. The easiest way to deal with those feelings was to be angry at him, blame others and convince themselves they were fine/better without him. I can 100% see this as a real coping mechanism.

I find Bruno's story very, very relatable as a neurodivergent transgender man from Russia, who loves his family deeply, but is shunned by them. They will never accept me as who I am, I'm something to be ashamed and not talk about, no matter how many school competitions I won and how successful my job is. After watching "Encanto" with me, my mother said that it's *me* who does everything in his power to distance myself from the family and make them cross me out. It hurt me deeply, because I love them, and it's a shame they would never love me back the same way. Being trans and having a differently wired brain is not something I had chose. But I *do* choose to make my life as free and fulfilling as possible, and if it includes cutting ties... Then I think I'll have to do it eventually.

One tiny detail I love is that when Luisa directs Mirabel to Bruno’s tower, she instinctively refers to him as “Tio” Bruno. It’s probably the first time she’s said his name in years, but instead of just saying his name like her cousins, she still uses the name she would have addressed him by. 🥰

hello I am back here watching this again, and would like to add that, (at 15:50) I suspect part of why Bruno caves caves immediately when Antonio offers up his room for use as a vision space, is just. Meeting Antonio in person, an entire five-year-old, walking, talking, surprisingly wise and resourceful child, who is one of his sister's children and yet he's never really met before, helped change his mind a little bit. Maybe Mirabel is right, he might've thought, he would really like to get out of there.

Idk, just seeing a part of me that made me feel weird was nice to see in fiction ^^ And I know his anxieties is from his OCD, which I want to say is AMAZING representation!! Edit: Idk if this is considered neurodivergent or if it's still neurotypical, but I got diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder, so if anyone knows which thingy that fits in I'd appreciate if someone could let me know

it's possible you know this by now but for the record, anxiety disorders count as neurodivergent! the coiner of neurodivergent created it as a wide umbrella term for any brain that is different from the socially accepted norm. so for some random examples, depression, anxiety, c/ptsd, schizophrenia, personality disorders, epilepsy, tourette's/tic disorders, and many more all fit under the umbrella /info

I honestly am so torn because I loved Bruno but the way he was treated in the movie made me seriously dislike Encanto - they seriously played him off as comic relief where he should have had as deep a story as Mirabel, if not deeper. He barely plays an actually helpful role, and nobody apologized to him, they just "forgave" him. For what?! I thought it was pretty disgraceful that the "happy" ending was him returning to a family that was downright abusive.

Because Bruno promised her the _life of her dreams_, but right now she's preparing to marry Mariano, someone she does NOT want to marry. Not to mention the constant facade of perfection she has to put up in order not to upset Abuela. If her dream will come true, why is her life so horrible at the moment, she wonders.

Okay so now I need to know, who is that sexy man with the glasses at 0:22?! I can confirm btw that five year-olds don't have very good memories, in case that was in any doubt. I was four or five when my uncle went to jail and my parents purposely didn't speak about him (though they didn't exactly hide his existence either or lie about it) and then when he came back when I was older I was so confused because I had no idea my dad had a brother. I legit thought my dad was an only child lol. Suffice to say, my uncle is also the black sheep of our family. However unlike Bruno, my uncle really is a colossal asshole that ruins everything whereas Bruno is a misunderstood cinnamon roll that must be protected. Also I've heard others echo your sentiment about Bruno purposely being given big eyes to emphasize his innocence and make him sympathetic and I totally agree but I also want to propose another explanation that they gave him big eyes to make him look slightly crazed (his irises and pupils are kinda small compared to the whites of his eyes) and unhinged which he is, and also to emphasize the thousand yard stare he does whenever he has a vision. I love Bruno so much, he's also my favorite character. I can relate to him so much it's actually kinda painful, I too struggle with anxiety and OCD and feeling like a burden to my family even though I love my family and would do almost anything for them. I have two nephews that I adore and there's nothing I wouldn't do for them, including putting myself in harm's way to protect them if need be. I want nothing more than to protect them and ensure they do not suffer the same way I suffered growing up (I'd rather not go into details but suffice to say I'm pretty sure I also have C-PTSD even though I haven't been formally diagnosed with it). If I have to sacrifice my own well-being to protect them from that, then so be it. It's too late for me, but it's not too late for them. I'm also incredibly awkward and shy and constantly apologizing for things like Bruno, so yeah I relate to him in a lotta ways. Edit: I edited this so it'd be easier to read for people with dyslexia, I hope this helps! I tried to keep it 30 - 50 words per paragraph but some run a teensy bit longer because they were impossible to split without splitting in the middle of a sentence.

Nothing but 1 detail. He was a doctor. And that's all. She died some years ago but my mom can't talk about him cuz too traumatized and I don't blame her. Love this video almost as much as I love Bruno! Given the immense popularity of this movie, I'm quite sure they'll make a follow up project on it and all I am hoping for is that they don't give Bruno a lovestory. For me as an aromantic asexual I can relate to him being the only one of the triplets without a family of his own so I'd be so glad if they'd left him like this. Bruno needs to be loved by his family as much as he loves them for sure but apart from that he does not need a romantic relationship to be happy! Not everyone does and the way I feel it, he doesn't.
@sarahtaylor4264
@sarahtaylor4264 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not opposed to him being in a relationship (way) down the road. He is so far from that point at the moment it would take more than one sequel though. There is a lot of trauma to heal first and the logical immediate follow-up focus would be on him and his family. He can't suddenly reappear after 10 years and they don't talk about it. He needs to find himself and decide what he wants to do with his life. He needs to re-integrate into the community and make platonic friendships. I'm also good with him deciding he is happy being a brother and uncle. He wasn't a young man when he hid. If he wasn't interested in pursuing a relationship then it wouldn't make sense for him to suddenly be now. I guess it will depend on what story Disney wants to tell.
