OKAY CHUMS WE HAVE A VERY CHATTY VIDEO TODAY - a lot of things to cover! Regarding the Hermes lawsuit, I'm honestly very inexperienced when it comes to the rules of the Hermes game so this is just my opinion. We'll discuss the three price increases in the luxury world and even another bag that got a price decrease. Also a few luxury wishlist item updates! And a bunch of little things in between that I wanted to point out as well.

I heard that under CA law, tie-ins to buy a main product is against the Consumer Act or something. In a way, it's a scam to tie non-popular products to a main product that has nothing to do with it. Do you really need a plate to use that bag😂? When I heard this explained, the usual ' oh if you really show you are interested with our brand, buy this pillow, or plate' sound like a scam than a luxurious experince😂.

Yeah thats the main point of the suit. If Hermes actually explicitly said it they’d have been sued sooner. I’m sure other states have similar laws. So it was a matter of time.

I mean I’ve already accepted that this is “the game” and with how huge Hermes is there’s no way they’ll stop but if they make it an unofficial protocol to just tell you point blank what you need to do and make it apply to everyone equally then I won’t mind 😅 but I totally agree it’s really ridiculous why I need to buy 4 tea cup sets to get a bag 👽

Yes! I noticed the lady Dior dust bag with the simple black font for LADY and I was honestly like WHY would they do that 😢😢 it looks terrible, doesn’t match the bag. Cursive would’ve been better at least but it’s just so awkward looking SMFH

I use my *yutulux* as a work bag and have had no issues at all. It’s a comfortable bag, fits a good amount and hadn’t lost its shape. With that being said, I also take care of all my bags and don’t carry a water bottle, pens, keys or anything that can damage the interior.

I also think it’s interesting that the Anjou’s had a decrease. I was in Milan in Feb and they didn’t have the Anjou pm in green. The mini Anjou is more in demand than the pm size. Anyway, I bought the GM st. Louis and came back to the states and sold it on eBay for a hefty profit..which then I applied towards the purchase of my pm Anjou at the Chicago goyard NM boutique. I also sold a St. Louis pm recently and people pay over retail on eBay…I don’t think people realize that you can call a store and purchase over the phone.

I can totally see how fashionphile and other people make money off of Goyard bc the lack of e commerce and physical stores really drives the value up! But agreed! The Anjou has been around for a while but just recently in the last 1.5 years I’ve seen the mini Anjou get SO popular!

Honestly I shop at Hermès and got multiple bags and not a single time I’ve been pushed to accept a bag that I didn’t like. I had rejected offers and will continue to do so. I know we hear so many stories but they are to take with a grain of salt. You can have a total different experience and that Why if you like Hermès, you should just go and see for yourself.

Hi Maggy! Regarding the tax refund... I just came back from Japan and got my Medium Lady D-Joy in Ginza. I went to the actual Dior store first but they only had the display in stock which had a lot of imperfections, so the SA told me they had another store about a 5 minute walk down the street who had 2 in stock. Got there and realized it was a department store. I also then went to the Omotesando one the next day and got mitzahs. With the tax refund, the actual Dior boutique will refund you 10% right away at the store. At the department store, they had a dedicated "tax refund counter" upstairs (which we experienced at Tokyo station too which was a similar department store-type setting? Not sure what they're really called, somebody please correct me if I'm wrong), but those counters charge a 1.8% service fee so you're really only getting 8.2% tax refund back, which is still pretty good but can be avoided as long as you're shopping at the actual boutique! It’s a bit like that in China, the SA basically will tell you how much you need to spend and in what categories roughly in order to get a certain bag. It’s kinda nice but the pre spending on average is much higher than in the us from what I experienced. So which way would you prefer? more transparency or more pre spending?

People talk about the UK Wishlist as though it's some equitable system. But I can attest that the same people get offered 2 bags every year while others get nothing by using the same system

Ugh that’s unsettling so basically across the board it’s unfair smh. Here I was holding out hope for London bc of the things I’ve seen on Reddit. But I can see that, bc some people I follow will be offered QBs in neutral colors back to back within the same year with only buying some belt and shoes. The inconsistency 🥹🥹

I believe the ‘wish’ expires after a year so you have to go back in store and re-do it. Then wait another year with nothing offered (unless you dug deep with your H purchases). The ‘wish’ isn’t often granted 🧚🏼♂️.

So, with the Hermes lawsuit.. it just goes along with people wanting something without having to earn it , in whatever way that is. I believe Hermes can sell and conduct their business anyway they want and if you don’t like that then don’t shop there. It’s always been that you don’t really get what you want , you get what they have available when they call you. The wait list system is fair it’s a covenant bag , when they have bags available they go down their list and if you say no it continues on. I have shopped at Hermes for years and I have never been pushed into buying something I really didn’t want to get a Birkin.

It’s called supply and demand. These bags are hand made and it takes up to a week to make just one bag. It’s not like they have an army of artisans making these bags. the irony of this lawsuit is that the plaintiffs have Hermes bags already….

Maggy! I need to thank you for posting this video letting us know about the Loewe price increase. I was able to snag the Mini Hammock Hobo in the tan color. Tbh I did panic buy lol. But it worked out in my favor because I bought it at Neiman Marcus with a 15% off discount 🎉 Yesterday the bag was 1,700. Today it’s 1,800.

When it comes to Hermes, my mom and I have birkin bags. She has 35 and I have a 30. If I had to play that game, I simply would not purchase. I won’t ever beg to buy something! The store I shop at however is fairly new, and really nice sales associates in there so far.

I dont live near a store to see the bags in person but have lusted after the regular version for ages but they have now brought out the purse version which I also love so any thoughts on which one to go for? There’s a Flamenco Purse bucket bag coming soon in a beautiful burgundy or bright lemon/lime shade to start with and it has the same chain strap plus an adjustable, cross body one. Sort of LV Neonoé size. I think it’s a few hundred $$ more than the Purse… but that will probably go up to the same 😭.

@maggyxchuu hi. Just got back and very little stock. No nano senats. And apparently the boheme has been consistently soldout for the past 2y. They only had the anjou mini in black with the goyard heart. It was significantly cheaper tho. Maybe try being first in store? Good luck.

The only bag I want from Hermes is the picotin 18 in a fun color. The closet store to me is SouthCoast plaza, I feel like there is too much competition at that store, and I would never be offered the picotin in a color that I would like 😕

Completely agree on transparency. In Asia, at least where I am residing in now, it’s the same - you need to befriend a SA before you get “prioritized” during bag restocks or bagdrops (we are pretty Americanized in that sense, it appears). Have you bought a bag from TheRealReal? Would love to go the second-hand route for some bags as well. Super enjoy your insights and sentiments 💜

wasn’t there something about the type of cows reared for their leather not producing or growing quickly enough to feed the current demand, resulting in the endless price increases ? can’t recall exactly but the frequency is sadly getting out of hand. another trend that’s been creeping up over the years is the use of ugly sans serif fonts to spell out the brand name - initially i noticed it only with givenchy because i liked the antigona but not the branding. their other slgs also had the brand in metal letters stuck on the leather giving really off-putting cheap knock off vibes. and then it happened to chanel, celine, loewe & even dior wasn’t spared with the book tote. it’s disappointing when the design element of logos is simply removed to make way for a shouty name. and now, even the lady dior dustbag is not spared ?!! that is beyond ugly & so tragic. i still love celine & their latest campaign is gorgeous as someone who loves mini bags, but we’ll see how the prices are headed for towards the end of the year. btw what shade are you in the hourglass veil tint ? and have you tried the latest skin tint from lisa eldridge ?? looking forward to your japan update !!! oh yes ! moynat is pronounced mwah-nah 😂

Luxury and life in the middle read through the lawsuit. She thinks there might possibly be a case. Idk I’ve always felt that the way Hermes has you prove brand loyalty through money is kinda illegal. The main issue is that they raise in the lawsuit is also that you shouldn’t have to buy the teacup or jewelry in order to get a Birkin. That practice is “tying” which is illegal in California. That’s the reason there’s no explicit transparency. Hermes has been protected from legal action because the tying is implicit.

I totally agree it’s like why does brand loyalty have to directly mean to buy things you don’t even have a passion for. Like one tea cup set is novelty but six of them? The best outcome would be if they just implemented an official waitlist system or even based on longevity. If you’ve been shopping with Hermes for over 5 years you get the opportunity for your dream bag idk anything else but a $50k prespend 😭👽

I love hermes but I don't like how they play their customers… I won't name an influencer, but with just buying a single item, a wallet maybe and a history of just buying a blanket a year ago, she was offered a birkin 30 in noir ghw, and without buying in between in less than a year or maybe just 6 mos. she was offered a freaking special order! That is just so unfair! And that is in nyc! It's not her fault but it's just too unfair! We love hermes by the quality of their bags not with their system! So yes transparency is a must!

Hermes makes majority of their money from people in the tail end of the income bracket (billionaires) - those people don’t care about this which means the lawsuit will probably be settled out of court and get forgotten so no change will be implemented as a result 😊

This is what I’m assuming too, it’s been going on for decades. I do get the appeal is bc of“the game”but it must be so frustrating being led by a string by certain SAs. How it’s not even just the purchase history but all these other factors too. Idk and plus they have so much money so legally they can hold out longer if they wanted to too.

Haha the irony is what you are describing as the "fair way" to do the Hermes game of saying "you need to buy this many RTW and jewellery pieces" is literally illegal aka tied selling. It is ironic though that its true, it would be the fair way to do it like that.

oh yes the actual admittance of that would literally be like blood on their hands but Hermes has been doing this for so long and realistically I don’t think it’s ever going to stop so if they could somehow unofficially make it a protocol for SAs to just tell you point blank what you need to do I would appreciate that a lot more than ambiguous hoops being jumped in ☁️

I spoke w an SA at the SCP Loewe around mid February and they mentioned the increase would range between $50 to $200 which I suppose isn’t too bad but hopefully it won’t be more than that 🥲
