Providing weapons and equipment to allies to prevent Russian aggression from a leader who declared he wanted to rebuild the Soviet Union is only common sense at this point. Appeasement with Crimea didn't work any better with Putin than Chamberlain's appeasement with Hitler. Stopping Putin from taking Ukraine will prevent further aggression.

I had a speech class decades ago. Our professor called it 'verbal vomit' back then, and refused to allow it to be used during any debates. He said then that it is just a 'Bully' technique when the person has NO facts, so tries to overwhelm the situation with CHAOS.

it's one of the big examples in the debate fallacy book. It's like when someone calls you fat, dumb and ugly and you only got 3 seconds to respond, maybe you can refute the fat or the ugly part, but due to the format everyone will assume you're admitting that the other two are true. Most people fall for it subconsciously.

Rachel Maddow talked about it 4 years ago (or was it 8?) regarding Trump, but tying it back to earlier historical figures who used the same technique. I don't recall seeing it before then, when I was prepping lectures on logical fallacies and argument, so I'm guessing it hadn't made its way into the academic literature before I retired. Definitely something I would've added to my curriculum!

You can't just call them a lair, however eloquently you may be, to their face on live broadcast TV. The opponent is the only person in a position to call the other a lair.
