Silver Bat Cave correctly pointed out, if one is buying AMERICAN platinum over the tax threshold, one isn't taxed in CA. I was buying Swiss Platinum over the $1500 CA tax threshold and was taxed. Thank you!

For the newbies u should have compared the sane brand or coin like used a gold maple .999 and a plat maple so you could actually see the size and thickness difference to sumone new I'm sure they thinking the gold looks bigger in your comparison buy if u did vid with using a gauge to show exact measurements of a plat mape vs gold mape you would see a big difference just side bi side with gage its a big diff much denser ... 🥳

As soon as it was under $1,000 an ounce, I started buying and managed to grab a couple dozen ounces. No intention of selling before 2035 either. It’s my long term speculative position.

I own several pieces of platinum jewerly and it expensive, Usually 30% premium because it difficult to work with. It is the Real white gold !

Platinum was a wonder material for me in the laboratory. It doesn't oxidize even at 1500C and does not dissolve in most acids. The technology coming up will be a great fit for platinum but the amount of research looking for platinum alternatives is also high due to its price.

Thanks! I was lucky enough to buy 1 1oz Platinum Eagle last year when spot was around $780. Wish I snagged a couple more! Back then the premium was a little over $100. I'm aslo waiting to see which way the economy and Platinum will go before grabbinb anymore!

Hindsight is 20/20. The best we can do is see the patterns and situations which lead to low prices and act accordingly when they happen again. I wish I bought some in 2020 too.

Very interesting. You are the only KZfaqr that I have found that talks about platinum being needed for fuel cells. This is a very important detail. I was looking for a new need for platinum after and during the transition away from catalytic converters.

Thank you. The interesting part is seeing what direction they try to shift us towards: all electric or a hybrid. I don't think the grid, nor our needs, can handle an all electric society; which is why I lean towards platinum being used at least for a few more decades in these sectors.

If platinum is mined at a rate of 1 to 30, then why can all the gold in the world fill 3 olympic-sized swimming pools and platinum can barely reach a person's ankles standing in the pool? I hope platinum is used in hydrogen fuel cells for greener aviation in the future.

I would recommend people buy platinum with silver. Then keep buying silver and use the platinum's difference in value to buy gold in conjunction with silver. That way you're always upgrading. :)

Thank you, this was a nice, and informative video and one of the better ones addressing staking Platinum. I love Platinum and think it's more beautiful than Silver but it only represents 8% of my stack. I collect bars and due to the cost only two bars are full ounces with the rest being fractional. I don't stack it for any other reason than I just like it.

Everyone parrots the canard that 'platina' was pejorative, but it may have been merely descriptive. When you compare the same weight of Ag and Pt the difference in size is striking. Miners elsewhere saved platinum nuggets even though they didn't know what it was; it was so dense they knew it was special.

Thanks for the platinum education 👍 the only platinum I have is my wedding ring. It is extremely hard, 10 years on my finger and not a dent or bend in sight, barely a scratch. As soon as funds allow I will definitely add it to my stack. Thanks man

Yeah it's a really interesting metal! I was shocked to learn it was harder than diamonds. My reason for stacking is it's rarity and dwindling supply. I understand the currently climate may shoot prices down but I'm okay with my holdings and wouldn't sell. Thanks for watching! 😎

@@CampbellsCoins yes the rarity is definitely a big reason to buy it. More affordable than gold for the time being. I'd say a lot of people will be kicking themselves in the future. There is a bit of noses in the air when it comes to platinum. Watch this space. Backyard bullion from the UK posted earlier today he is selling 1oz platinum britanias for 1000 sterling. Only for UK residents unfortunately.

Just started buying today. At under 1,000 an ounce it looks better than cash, bonds, or money market. You won't get rich on it but it is a cheap hard asset.

999.5 platinum is around 11% more dense than 999.9 gold, although it's common in jewelry and industrial application platinum been used to treat certain cancers and is used with chromium to make heart stents. Economy plays a roll regardless what the metal is and so does demand. That being said rather have precious metals than worthless promissory notes.

I have a KILO of Physical 1 oz Bars Platinum in my Stack of PM's. Platinum will not go below $,1000 oz. Because it is too Labor intensive and the Deepest mines on EARTH over 3 miles deep...

I feel like humans are looking to more and more options outside of fiat. Bitcoin, gold, etc. I feel Platinum, due to simply being very rare on our planet, regardless of it’s uses, might just be looked at again someday by the same generation that grows up with Bitcoin. Simply being rare may be enough.

You should look into the cost to mine, years ago it was around $650/ounce in South Africa and $400/ ounce in Russia. So basically during the $600 crash, you really couldn't buy any for that price, the premiums during that time were hundreds of dollars over spot.... if you could find an ounce. People are not looking at the "contract" spot pricing at Comex as it is not an accurate representation of the market pricing anymore... across the board in precious metals. Contracts are paper, and shorting this paper causes the spot price to drop. Short the paper, buy your bullion, sell your shorts, keep your bullion. Is that price manipulation? Ask JP Morgan... or the SEC who fined them for spoofing silver $920 million, which is another issue. Know what you are up against. But also know the value of what you are buying... not the price.

I started buying Platinum when the U.S. Mint started issuing coins in the metal. I wish I had bought more in the past but budget limitations put a damper on that.

Haha, I hate when the budget gets in the way of aspirations. Did you get into Platinum because of the US Mint coin or have you stacked other coins bars? I want to like the American designed coins but the APE and the AGE just don't do it for me design-wise. I think the AGB and ASE are pretty 🍒. @@CampbellsCoins Thankfully, my dad got me hooked on collecting coins way back in the 70's. My income was pretty sparse because the only money I had was earned by mowing grass, shoveling snow and selling fish to the neighbors. Yeah, they actually were the good ol' days. Oh and yes, the only reason I started collecting platinum was because the US Mint started issuing coins in said metal. The design is not all that exciting but it's away to stack the metal.

Mike Maloney isn’t ignorant LoL, he just says the fact now if that fact burns some people skin it won’t change the truth. Platinum isn’t money was not money and will never money. I buy platinum too but as a valuable asset as a commodity. I won’t ever buy platinum as money like I do for Gold and silver . Like Mike Maloney said you can make huge gains from platinum but that doesn’t necessarily makes it money or a storage of wealth. It will hold some value no matter what because it have intrinsic value. And platinum won’t go away just because combustion engines are going to go away . Please guys don’t get triggered it’s facts. I buy Platinum just as I hold Aluminum or copper. Does it get a little more adoration? Sure it does get adoration from me because of it’s high concentration of value.

Here in Germany there is also sales tax (19%) on commercial platinum trade, unlike gold, which of course makes it unattractive for professional dealers. Not sure whats the taxation policies in other countries.

Any update on this a year later? Have you encountered any new uses or changes on the market? RE taxes, many economies seem to charge a VAT or GST on platinum as it is classed as being for industrial use, not a currency like gold and silver.

Tax in CA is charged on Platinium bars. Platinum coins are treated just like Au or Ag coins. No tax on purchases over $1500.

If you find the right LCS, they won't charge tax on plat bars as long as it's over $1500.

Spot price disconnects from physical in major drawdowns as seen with silver in March of 2020. If you have a 5-7 year time horizon I think you'd do just fine

When I first started stacking Silver and Gold, I said I'd never buy Platinum. Here I am and my biggest bullion purchase on one single metal has been Platinum. Why not invest in all three? Also, there is ALOT less Platinum out there than Gold... And certainly Silver

The only problem that I can see with platinum or precious metals you’ve already lost money when you purchase it because there is a up charge and then when you go to sell it there is also an up charge that does not work in your favor. Depending on what the charges are you have to make that percentage back before you even break even. I would think you would be better off buying precious metals and something that has some Coin value Related to rarity as well.

It's true, there is a premium when you buy and one is hit with a premium when one sells precious metals. What's great about precious metals though, is their price is not static and it's quite easy to come out ahead.

I do have some Platinum but not as much as I'd like to have. I agree although Platinum is volatile I personally believe it has a lot of potential at least returning to around its all time high. I follow a few Stackers on KZfaq that live in California and have those tax issues and man that sucks.

I just think back to 2016 when I thought of buying Rhodium and seeing the price now makes me cry lol. I have a sneaking suspicion we may see similar actions with platinum and palladium. When you start looking at the rarity of the platinum group metals, it often makes me question why I have gold lol. Something about that damn yellow metal though. Yeah it sucks but the only way to get over it is move and I don't see that happening any time soon. I did find out by a viewer, if I were to buy over my tax threshold in American platinum, the tax goes away like gold and silver. I was buying Swiss platinum and that was my issue. Funny the tax exemption isn't for American gold and silver, just American platinum.

I have 60% Gold, 30% Platinum and 10% Silver. Platinum at my local brick and mortar disappears so quickly. He never has new platinum coins for more than a couple of days upon release. More often then not it is just simply not available in any size or type. The Platinum 2022 Tiger sold out across the country in under 4 hours. Various discussions with my counterparts across Europe and Asia tell me continuously that platinum is really starting to get noticed because of its properties and rarity. It seems it's only the US which hasn't caught on...

Platinum is intresting for the research being done, I read an article that the vast majority of research in noble metals is being done for platinum. I think that will hold promise for more platinum in the future. I would like to see if I could hammer my platinum and use it as a catalyst to make hydrogen, curious if it's possible to use the platinum for more then just a vault queen and make something cool with it

When aluminum was first discovered it was worth more than gold - opposite irony that platinum was considered worthless at the time. I'm going to call this one more educational than informative as it's a great history and overview, thus making it more of an academic video - not a bad thing though so still thumbs up!

@@CampbellsCoins More towards your usual theme of buying, selling, investing, stacking, etc. Since this is your initial foray into platinum though that's obviously not practical yet but after that huge jump it had over the past year, it definitely has my attention. I'm looking at it more as an investment for flipping over the short term rather than something to store wealth in long term though since it seems to be a bit more volatile than gold and silver so if you continue to deal with platinum, I'll be looking forward to you sharing future thoughts on it later this year after you've gotten some more experience.

Those are certainly two different price options haha. Given the two choices, I would pick the silver. You could get four 10 oz silver bars for the price of that one ounce of platinum. I have a wait and see approach with platinum at the moment. I think inflation will play more favorably for silver than platinum.

Silver 100%. I just bought (5) 1 oz silver rounds from APMEX and they are amazing. Silver is attractive, affordable and never goes out of style. The EV market will drive the price up in the coming years. Combine that with solar panel demand and it's safe haven status as the USD is debased and you could see silver go triple digits one day. All while having fun in the process. I wear a .925 Figaro chain everyday tucked under my shirt. I absolutely love it. Silver is the way of the future. Stack while you can and good luck :)

Yes those high premiums are a turn off, also no platinum can be found at LC or PSs.

Hydrogen uses more energy to be produced by hydrolyzing water with electricity than the fuel energy it provides to be used for combustion. It can be produced using fossil fuels but is what I thought the political class wants to get away from.
