Fun yet morbid fact: when Mitzi's reading the paper and says "done in by a scarf" is a reference to early 20th century dancer Isadora Duncan who sadly perished due to her long scarf getting caught in the tire of the car she was riding in

There are so many great historical touches that add to this pilot. My favorite is Serafine being able to fire single shots while her BAR is still in full-auto. The full-auto cyclic rate on the BAR is slow enough that squeezing off single shots like she does is absolutely possible, and her "walking fire" style was a technique that was really taught to BAR riflemen during WWI trench raids.

I highly recommend going through the comic if you haven't already, cause I'd like to think Tracy had a lot to say about certain historical accuracies portrayed in the pilot due to how much she's researched for her work. There's a lot of snippets of historical info she leaves under new released pages and I'll always remember the one about laws on putting food down the sink XD also the comic is just .. marvelous. The shading, use of color and fine details make any page worthy of being a standalone print honestly.

Glad two great minds can think alike. I've been obsessing over this character for pretty much the entirety of April now. It's cuz of the pilot I decided to knuckle down and read the comic. Not only is Serafine a crazed Creole gunslinger in the comic, but a voodoo practitioner! Which is just the COOLEST idea for a character!

Though, it should be noted that their Ford Model A is slightly anachronistic; this pilot takes place in mid September 1927, while the Model A first hit the streets in December of that year. And they were using this car in the web comic as well, which take place in May. But they already show that they care enough about portraying the era right that I’m not going to complain about a car being a few months early lol

For anyone wondering why Mordecai doesn't take that clear shot at Ivy: Ivy Pepper is Lackadaisy's long-time 'jazz baby' - adopted by Atlas May (founder and original boss of Lackadaisy) as his goddaughter. When Atlas died, Viktor assumed the mantle of Ivy's godfather. Viktor and Mordecai were partners throughout most of Lackadaisy's history, so Mordecai well understands *exactly* how extreme Viktor would react towards anyone who harmed Ivy. Mordecai detests the Savoys, so he wouldn't lose any sleep if *they* killed Ivy - a very satisfactory reckoning to his way of thinking - but Viktor would know Mordecai's handiwork (if he had taken that shot) and has absolutely no desire to incur his former partner's personal wrath.

Btw in the graveyard scene, Rocky mentions Burke and Hare "did much worse and things turned out fine for them". Hare was granted immunity from prosecution but Burke was hanged (Burke is still around, his skeleton is at a university).

So did a lot of the ‘body snatchers’ of Edinburgh and other areas. The main difference is that while most of them simply dug up graves to steal corpses, Burke and Hare straight up murdered people, as mentioned above. Fun fact, after Burke was hanged, his body was dissected, in a bit of poetic justice. That’s why his skeleton is on display at the University of Edinburgh’s Medical School.

This is maybe the 5th time I've pointed this out, but there's a detail I really want to point out when Ivy clings to Freckle as Rocky leaves. Viktor notices Ivy and Freckle close, and he's like "woah, wtf is going on here-" and then he glares at Freckle. Freckle notices, he becomes worried. Next scene, Freckle is looking toward Viktor's direction. I'm sure if you've read the comic, you'd know exactly why. And you'd also know why he'd scratch the bar after Freckle and Ivy leave. I'm assuming Mitzi knows, since she's smiling at the two before patting Viktor on the arm once she leaves, too.

A pretty accurate representation of it as well. There are so many historical references just in this pilot, and they embrace it even more in the web comic, to the point that you can tell when they take place just from the historic events mentioned (the web comic starts in May 1927 and this pilot takes place in September, due to the mentioning of Charles Lindberghs flight across the Atlantic and the death of Isadora Duncan respectively. The date “May 27th” is also conveniently shown in one of the newer chapters). This attention to detail lets me forgive them for the Ford Model A being anachronistic by a few months haha

4:46 Rocky IS wearing a zoot suit--which is actually anachronistic! I believe his costume design predated the actual comic by quite a while (you know how it is, having an OC and then later deciding on a story for them). @@cam4636 LOL! from the comic faq. Q. Why do some of your characters wear zoot suits? They weren't popular until the 1930's and 40's. A. Yeah, you can see the zoot suit look in some of the early art. Zoot suits are mostly associated with the 1940s, though, and also have some very specific cultural history that I wasn’t aware of when I first started work on the comic (see the Zoot Suit Riots of 1943). I’ve long since veered away from drawing the suits that way. Grasping 1920s fashion took some learning, as did many other facets of Jazz Age history. Research has been an endless, ongoing part of making this thing, really. I’ve learned so much along the way and I’ve corrected many of my own errors when possible. I’ll inevitably make more of them, though, as any point in history is a vast, branching, convoluted topic. So not drawn as a zoot suit. I know what a zoot suit and Rocky isn't wearing one

Not quite a zoot suit. Similar, but zoot suits had much longer fabric and usually hung down to form a straight line at the hem, rather than the tassels of his suit. Could be something related or just inspired by them, but the proper zoot suit didn't become a thing until 1930 and is more identified with the 30s and 40s. The fedora isn't helping either, since that was also part of the traditional getup. Considering he's part of a big band and almost certainly in the jazz scene, I can see him picking up a predecessor to the style, but I can't find what that might've been called specifically. The light blue color is also a point against it- the typical zoot suit is usually in darker shades.

I have definitely watched the pilot over 60 times since launch. I can’t get enough of it. Rocky’s serenade in the beginning just drew me in automatically. Honestly I see alot of myself in Rocky and I relate to him the most. I really hope Lackadaisy gets a full series because it truly deserves to have one. The fact the comics have been around since 2006 is amazing. This Pilot has inspired me to return to honing my Art skills so that I can bring my own creations to life. I’m so excited for the future!

I've seen a lot of people not like the anatomy lines/circles in the animation, but I disagree with that crowd. I LOVE when animation still has the rough anatomy lines/circles from the sketches, I don't know what the style is necessarily but I absolutely adore when animators do that. It's just something about it that has a lively type of feel I guess?

I disagree that ivy is the brains you can see Rocky doing some intelligent stuff too When Freckle has the gun he yells ivy to stop the car he probably knew that if ivy stopped the car nicodeme (I think that was the brother name) would be obligated to move the car to one side and get closer when done that Rocky puts Freckle on the window so he could have a clear shoot While he is checking the paper I believe he is the one that made that research (explains why his face is on the paper too) so he is the reason why they found the alcohol In the comics *SPOILERS* When Rocky is captured by the pig farmers they decide to kill him with a train that is gonna pass by and he hears they had to kill one of the pigs they had on the truck and notices the dead pig next to him and when he is in the train rails he says “hey why not take advantage of this situation and put the pig here?” The farmers agree and they leave and Rocky has time to escape

Lackadaisy is set in the Prohibition Era 1920-1933. Cat's Don't Dance is set in the 1930's, specifically 1939. The same vernacular, slang, and fashion are relevant to both eras. Which is why Lackadaisy reminds a lot of people of Cat's Don't Dance. It's also set 50-60 years before the Fazzbear timeline so it was really, really stupid to even try to make a reference.

Seeing the Pilot already at 6 Milli views! As of now makes me hope so badly that this will turn into a full animated series. Because this deserves to be more then a one-off Pilot. I'm so happy for Tracy Butler and Fable including the rest of the Lackacrew for bringing this pilot short to life. Hopes it brings the team more good news in the future. 👍🏾🙌🏾

@waffle911

It was a similar era; the working clothes of boys and young men were more practical for women requiring durability, mobility and tighter fit (not getting snagged or caught on things) from their clothing. Neither Audrey nor Ivy could very well do what they do in women's attire typical of the time. Plus, they don't need to be treated as some fragile thing that needs to be protected; the clothes help signal (and facilitate) a boyish independence not always afforded to women of the era.

A lot of use of the animation to get non-verbal. Use of the ears and tails to get reactions/moods across, as well as eyes and mouth, complimented by really good Voice acting and sound design. Not to forget the use of color to get the same vibes across. @CruelestChris
@CruelestChris Жыл бұрын
@@toomanyaccounts Actually no. I've found some data on this, an M1927 is an M1921 factory-altered at Auto Ordnance with a semi-only trigger pack, literally just milling off the "1" from an existing gun and changing it to a "7." Only about 100-150 were ever made and they were a commercial failure, police certainly didn't want them and at the time it was still legal to just buy the auto version (National Firearms Act didn't exist until 1934). Of course, because of these origins and the fact that under NFA a gun "remembers" its original configuration, they still have to be registered as Title 3 machine guns even if they're still in their semi-auto configuration. Of course, since the gun in the episode is fullauto, there's no reason to identify it as anything but an M1921AC, short of seeing the "full" milled off the trigger settings or the 1 being replaced with a 7. The "M1927s" you mostly see are modern replicas made as M1927-A1 by a company called Kahr Arms, and produced by Auto Ordnance starting in the 1970s. They can easily be distinguished from period guns by their longer barrels, 18 inches with the Cutts and 16.5 without, as opposed to 12 and 10.5 inches.
@toomanyaccounts
@toomanyaccounts Жыл бұрын
@@CruelestChris they were often converted to full auto because someone in the dept that bought them thought it was an idiotic decision that had to be undone. watch the forgottens video on them. very few of them were kept semi auto only and these unalterred ones are collectors items like open bolt semi auto only MAC10s which btw go for more then open bolt transferable full auto mac10s.
