IN THIS VIDEO
It's race week.
It's was time to put on the race shoes for another warm up event, this time 10k at the Brisbane Marathon Festival.
This was a much better race than the previous one.
Counting down the days now to the Gold Coast Half Marathon goal race, and I continue to learn lessons from this training block.
The most important one being - letting go of my ego.

In the athletic world, as in life, there is nothing more predictable than slowing down. The challenge is to do it gracefully. Good luck on that journey 😊

Thanks mate. It's hard to accept, but doing it gracefully is a perfect way to look at it. Thanks for sharing.👍

Well done on the 10k Woody. Thanks for coaching me for the Brisbane Marathon and to the better half for the encouragement up one of those hills! A tough hilly course but what a great day to be running. On to the next one!

Great job in that marathon mate. Been great to help you along the way and hope you can crush a couple more goals in 2024. That last hill on course is a tough one, I only did it once, but you had to do it twice and the second time after 40km! 👍

Awesome job out there on the 10km! When it comes to EGO I guess everyone has their own way of dealing with it....at 53 years of age I just take each training / race as it comes and try to do the best I can on that particular day. Not worry about the past, not worry about the future. Just be in the moment and appreciate it for what it is. 😄

Mate I'm so like you, 58 in July and just do not like the ageing slowness, 4:30's used to be a breeze 🙂 but hey we are still doing it and and most importantly loving it!!!!

Couldn't agree more mate. I'm happy to be out there and running. Times may be slower, but I think I am enjoying more of my runs each week with not having the stress of trying to hit a particular time/pace.👍

Just wanted to tell you that you're an inspiration. I'm 34, in reasonably good health and train quite a bit, but that 10K time you just did is out of reach for me. I aspire to get to my 50s in as good a shape as you are. I can only imagine how slowing down would be hard on the ego, but don't forget the positive impact you're having on other people like myself. Keep it up, mate!

Thanks, mate. It's all about being consistent, being patient and enjoying the process. I didn't start running again until my early 40s, and it's been considtency over a lot of years that has allowed me to do that. 👍

I totally stoped running races. I run without a stopwatch at least half of my runs. I do a time trial with a stopwatch from time to time, and those times are the only times i write down in my journal. My primary goal is to run today in a way, that i will be able to run tomorrow...... and yes, from time to time i still remember the times, whaen i could run much faster than now, and there is some kind of pain, maybe it is my hurt ego Running on feel and not comparing the present with the past, enjoying the wind in my face and the enorphines flowing through my body, when i push the pace from time to time give me still the same feelings as 20 years ago........turning 70 this year, running 100k per week on average around the year with the consistency of a Swiss watch, embracing the healing power of running through nature, running happy outweighs all fast times i ever ran.....all in all i never was a happier runner than now at a time, when on many occasion people think that i am walking, when in my reality i am running.....just take what you get and enjoy the moment

Mate, that's fantastic, and you are a true inspiration for sharing your story, getting so much joy from running. And I love the fact that you run today so you can run tomorrow. I want to get to that stage, I'm working on it and will keep working on it. I still like the races/events, but I think more now for running with people rather than chasing the clock. The fact you are still running 100k weeks, is bloody brilliant. Keep on keeping on. 👍

@@runwithwoody thanks a lot Neil........it is a long journey with ups and downs, some great some not so great, but it would be boring, if it all would be on a straight line. It is well worth to be mindful of the little things, to make the big things sucessful. For example i never use the word "work" in any sentence about running. I had to work to earn the money to pay the bills. I never do a "workout", because for me running never has to do anything with work, it has to do with joy and happiness, and in a more and more growing way with play. Putting some playful idea from my "child part of the brain" into my running has put many fun hours into long slow distance runs.......colors of my shirts, shorts, socks, hats and most of all shoes have gotten more and more important. From far away i look like a clown, and inside i feel happy, just looking down in front of me, seeing not only the pathway but also the playful colors

Great video and well done on the 10k time. Brisbane is definitely one of the harder courses in South East Queensland and quite often you dont know those hills have fried your legs until its too late!

They didn't stop you mate, you crushed that half. The hills are sneaky, especially that last one.👍

Good luck with that goal, mate. You have given yourself plenty of time to prepare, so if you have been consistent then just trust the training on race day. Hope to see you there.👍
