It turned out to be a great day for the 2019 National Pike Steam Show!, there is so much to see there that i know I missed a lot, however I will hopefully be at the fall show so ill cover it again and a little more in depth! Anyway here's some of the highlights, they have an awesome show and you should really go check it out if you have the time!

Thank you for taking me back to the old day's. If my dad was still alive. He could tell me about some of the old pieces of machinery. My dad started to work in construction in 1932. He started as labour 75 cents an hour.

Myself and brothers Gary, Fred and cousin Kendal went to that show in the late 80's or early 90's. Loved it. Filex the Cat was pushing dirt around. It was all rusty with no hood, but had a brand new V-8 Cat engine. The blade was home made. Came off a farm in Ohio with 2 Ford flat head gas engines.

Seeing the bulldozers at work reminds me of visiting my Grandfather who was a heavy machine operator building roads near Okeechobee, Florida. He'd take me and my older brother to watch him operate his dozer. Brings back great memories. I can almost smell the diesel exhaust. 👍

I hit everyone I can in the summer I love when they have thrashing machines running and baling straw got an old sawmill going blacksmith the whole 9 yards

Thanks for taking us along, really enjoyed the outing. I was glad to see at least one Unit crane, really love them. We always called them the gentleman's crane as the operator was, for the most part, isolated in the nice enclosed cab, protected from the machinery space. I was glad to see a couple of Euclid dump trucks, they are getting quite rare. Thanks for the memories!! By the way, that has to be one of the largest sand boxes to play in.

Freeze in the winter and burn up in the summer. Good draglines though. I'd still take a Bucyrus, American or Northwest for casting.

My grandpa taught me how to use his American dragline I can still clean a pond with it but I never got the hang of it to do pretty work above ground grandpa used it to pile up dirt for terraces and then fired up the 69 D7G with the pony motor and hooked up to the old 12 ft pull road blade and him and dad shaped them and brought out the old transit toss a stake in the ground make a few more passes till he was satisfied it would drain into the waterway dad's in his late 70s and still hops on the blade puts me on the dozer and we smooth the lanes through the pasture up since I bought the dozer I hope I can talk him out of the blade too

The crane with the dozer blade on the front is a U.S. Army rough terrain crane. I was the Battalion Maintenance Officer for the 13th Combat Engineer Battalion in Korea in 1967-68. We received about a half dozen of these brand new at that time to replace some older truck cranes. They have variably configurable steering in that the rear wheels could be locked straight ahead for normal driving or they could steer in opposition to the front wheels for tighter circles or in sync with the front wheels for crab-like steering. They were also 4-wheel drive.

@@lewiemcneely9143 Actually the 20 ton Rough Terrain Cranes were great for bridging operations. The huge tires and crab steering meant that you could maneuver around a river bank easily.

@@petemcl99 IF they just had a good set of outriggers. I wouldn't swap a truck crane for 5 of them if I had some serious lifting (heavy) to do. IF the outriggers had just extended. Maybe for lighter stuff but not for me with heavy loads.

@@lewiemcneely9143 We must be talking about different machines. The outriggers that we had were huge and worked quite well. Particularly relative to the old truck cranes that they replaced.

@@petemcl99 Maybe so. The ones I was around and ran had hydraulic outriggers that just went up and down, not extending outward at all. Just even with the outside of the rig. They had removable aluminum round feet but weren't very stable except over the front/back. You really had to watch it over the sides or really anything farther over than the hydraulics themselves. Seems like they had American/Cummins uppers but 903 or 555 V-Cummins and a 4-speed auto in the carriers. This was in 7/72. The steering was the same as you were saying. No blade. Probably a 'new and improved' model of yours.

There's a pretty much identical show in Carthage, NC called the 100 years of progress show at a farm called Edderville. One guy owns the entire place and like 6 giant buildings full of equipment and tractors and a lot of big steam tractors. I went for the first time in 2019 and took a 90y/o guy with me from my church that owned a grading company and was a dragline master. The look of joy on his face was worth the 3hr drive!

That one is kinda like yours! Old school equipment is cool, it can be hard to find parts. But you don’t have to replace computer parts that fail, on new machines! I like watching your equipment being put back to work…🙂

Thanks Diesel Crick for the Vid. brought back some memories of when I worked in a quarry for Kaiser Gypsum Co. D9 Cat with a cable blade, P@H drag line, Euclid Dump truck, Joy compressor track drill, pull behind the Euclid grader. Fun times for sure!!

I love antique machinery. I had a barn find of a 1940s Howard Gem walk behind rototiller that I used for several years. I ended up donating it to a museum in the Central Valley of California. Howard eventually quit making them and Dowdswell took up production for a short time and were selling them with a diesel engine for around $10,000. The best walk behind rototilker ever made.

Hi Mat loving your vids the steam show I remember driving them TD^,6s I was pushing out brick rubble for a car park lovely warm day when suddenly it got hotter I had to jump out it was on fire by the time I realised what had happened it was burning the battery sat under the seat and years of trundling about loosened the steel bar to hold the battery down it makes the flat bar loose then crosses the battery terminals enough to set light to its self not sorry to see it go up they really were old pieces of iron and pretty numb really enjoy your vids Mat good luck

The steam show is my favorite place on earth. Been going since I was 6. Never missed a year till we moved to Ohio. Gonna make the trek this year for the August show, I think.

Just seeing this video, so I'm nearly two years late making this comment. Seeing the Lee Norse miner (6:00) was a walk down memory lane. My dad worked at their Charleroi location for many years. Unfortunately, the 'rust belt depression' took its toll on many industries and the people who were the lifeblood of those industries. After graduating college in late 1980's, I needed to move out of the area to find steady work, as did many of my peers. So glad to see your work efforts pay off. Between your work ethic and skills, the sky is the limit for you. Best of luck.

The Historical Construction Equipment Association's 36thh annual International Convention & Old Equipment Exposition is September 23-25, 2022, at our National Construction Equipment Museum, 16623 Liberty Hi Road, Bowling Green, Ohio! 300 to 400 working and static antique construction, farming and military machines, trucks, engines and more! 9-7 Friday, 9-5 Saturday, 9-3 Sunday. $10 per day, $20 weekend pass.

When I seen that word ‘Euclid’ it sent a shiver down my spine. We used to have an old Euclid Dozer back in the 70’s, and Man, I used to hate fixing it, especially in the Winter.

I like going down to this show and checking out machinery and tools, knives, and other cool stuff for sale. It is a much cooler show than your standard car and truck show. I also tend to help out John from Tool-n-around and share some of my gravy fries with his dog.

The compressor crawler is wild looking. I have an old Schramm compressor. It is two old flat heads connected one runs on gas which drives the other modified to compress air. Kind of scary if you think about a bad unloader valve I always wanted to go to this show. It looks cool. My son and I have an old 48 cletrac BGH it would go well at this show.

Great video. I started out with cable machines in combat engineers, D8-9A and quick way cranes. Still can feel the bumps from rear cable A frame dozer getting up from the seat. A little more narration with the video would be great.

For something called the Pike Steam Show, there was definite lack of steam-powered machinery. I saw a stationary engine, a Case tractor and a roller. Was there more there that you didn't cover? I've been to the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion in Iowa, and another show in Pawnee, Oklahoma, and they had a lot more steam. I'm not complaining, I love old equipment of all kinds. I'm just observing. Great video.

I have watched the other 2 videos of this show and all I can say is I am depressed I’ve never heard of this show before, can someone give me event location and date for 2022? I will be making a trip from Michigan one way or another to visit this badass event!!
