I think it great how you think outside the box. I would have unpicked everything and then gone “what do I do now?” I would have the folded everything up neatly and tht would have 😂been it! I actually Want another way of inserting elastic. It’s from tessutti patterns on their blog. I can send through the link if you’re interested.
