@knotsandneedlescraftsАй бұрын
Yes I did. It’s called a hexagon cardigan. You can find plenty of free patterns and tutorials for it. I paid for a pattern before I realised I could find it for free. 2 hexagons, fold it, seam up the back and underarms. And then few rounds for arms and add some cuffs. I made mine in Aran weight acrylic and it then got super big after washing and using the dryer. I will probably end up making the zadie due to the sheer number of makes I see on instagram 😂

I had the same frustrations with some H &M dresses. The peoblem is that style. Rhey barely want you to be able to cover bra straps. I have to keep the sleeves from falling as well. How frustrating! I wonder if you could shir some elastic down the inside of the sleeves to make it more snug fitting.

@@knotsandneedlescrafts because of where Melbourne is located we’re blessed with lots of southerly winds so temperatures can average from overnight lows of around 5 or 6 degrees to about mid teens in the day (and anything in between). It’s honestly the wind factor that gets me. Lived in the Northern Territory for several years and then country NSW near Canberra which can get get even colder, but I had learned all about thermals and layering by this time and there wasn’t the wind chill factor like Melbourne .. you know, it’s 12 degrees but feels like 7 degrees at midday! I agree that you could shorten the bodice. What about taking the bodice apart and making a center front seam to take out width? If you make it into separates, then you could add a button band down the center front. That’d be so cute! If you do that, then you could just make the back plain.

Oh! If you want the perfect fit on your bodices, make a sloper from your measurements! I did it, and it's magic. You take a bunch of measurements, follow the direction to draw them out on paper, and the resulting garment fits like a second skin! Then you add ease for your desired sloper fit. Look up Suzie Fuhrer. She's amazing!!

Great video! It seems that you really enjoy sewing children's clothing. How lucky all those children are! I have recently started sewing some baby clothes as well. In your video you said that the snaps with the metal prongs often fall out. I have had that experience as well and it is so frustrating! I have wondered about using the plastic snaps, but I thought that they are only for woven fabric. Have you had luck using the plastic snaps on jersey? If so, do you have any tips to make that successful?

Plastic snaps are great. I sew in woven fabric to act as an interfacing layer. Stabilising the jersey. Works really well.

I sympathise…I too have had serious fit issues..I’m small on top (high bust 29,full bust 34), narrow shoulders etc going to a 37 hip….ive learned all the adjustments from narrow shoulder, petite adjustment, fba etc but nothing helped, each adjustment seemed to screw up the last one! Eventually I took a gamble and bought a Sinclair petite pattern…perfect…straight out of pack! Each time I try any other pattern, disaster. I am 5’ tall…no, I don’t work for Sinclair….if I did I’d say please, please some more modern designs! Right now I have a Sinclair bodice laid over a new look dress, so attempting the top half as Sinclair, bottom as N.Look patter….we shall see. Ps I have the book dressmaking, the easy guide, got it for Xmas & must did it out…Sinclair has only solved the knits problem, I am still struggling to fit woven. A lot of sewing pattern companies do draft for different body types. I remember reading that Sewaholic and Deer and Doe draft for a pear shape. That could be why your Sirocco jumpsuit fits so well! I remember reading a list with all different body types online somewhere, but I can't find it! I think probably the best thing is to find pattern companies that tend to work for you and stick with them. If you can. I'd be curious to hear how the patterns work, when you enter your measurements and they give you the pattern pieces. I have to try that out sometime, for sure!

I’ve made many, many pants, but my favorite pants by far was a Simplicity pattern I made in the ‘80s and 90’s that had pleats in the front that were extended to form the waist. They were so easy to fit! Sew up the pants, put them on inside out, then adjust the depth of the pleat/dart to perfectly fit your waist, sew, turn at your waist and tack down. The waist size and height were perfect!
