This has to be one of the greatest and toughest world records out there , I just wish he gave the 3000m record one more attempt after running 7 23 in his first and only attempt
@michaelsundell24224 жыл бұрын
Or at least a sub 8-minute two-mile attempt. Not much doubt he could have run that, is there? I mean, from here he'd have to run just 3:15 for another 1,220 metres, which for him is like jogging.
@nizarfa36684 жыл бұрын
@@michaelsundell2422 he could have easily run 2 miles back to back in sub 4 , he was just too dedicated to the 1500 , plus that oympic gold he chased for 8 years played a big role in him not doing amazing things in other distances ,he had all it takes to take the world records of 3000 ,2 mile and 5000
@magnuslundberg96753 жыл бұрын
@@nizarfa3668 You are right that El G was too dedicated to 1500m, and his 2000m record is fantastic. But i don't think that any of the greatest runners, Komen, Gebresselassie, Bekele, Morceli, Aouita, El G ever would say it's "easy" to break 8min for 2miles. The fact that only one person has done it (regardless it's a rarely run distance) strongly suggests that it is one of the toughest things to do. Running 3000m at about 7.26 and continue for 218m is extremely difficult for anyone, even for Komen who did it twice.

I don’t see how being dedicated to the 1500 stops one from doing other distances. He had the record in 1998 and 6 years later won the 1500 and 5000 at the olympics which seems like enough time to try other records.

Yeah, I agree, as a matter of fact, WR mile holder Hicham El Guerrouj was very close to never winning an olympic gold; he finally won two of them during some of his very last races. He won the first one in the 1500m running against Bernard Lagat, in which Lagat almost passed him. A while later, he ran against Bekele in the 5000m and outkicked him at the very end.

@jere.nurkka3 жыл бұрын
@@zachfriedman4263 I did 2000m in 9:42 this summer. So I would guess like 4:10-4:15 might be possible. Thing about 1000m is I used to test that once a week in 2014 before I went to military times were like 4:10-4:20 but after 4 months there I tried it only once and got 4:04. I am 6'2 250 pounds guy and sure if I would cut down 185 and that would mean that I would turn into wimp who can barely bench 225 and struggles to deadlift 400 pounds I could with few years of training get like 3min 30 seconds at least. But I don't have genetics for running to get actually good. Any young male can run sub 4 min/1000m with training.
@---jb2sb3 жыл бұрын
MrPappa2566 you might. Have genes suited for for sprinting if you’re long distance is not good. We have fast twitch and slow twitch muscles and fast switch dominant athletes will be better for sprinting but worse at long distance because they don’t have as much slow twitch muscles that are less powerful but more efficient. Everyone can be good at running at different distances because of genetics

El G was just a supremely efficient and powerful runner. Notice how little lateral motion there was in his running. Compare him to the rabbits who seem to have an exaggerated lateral motion. El G. may have been on epo but, I don't care, it just doesn't get better than that. Thank you El G for your incredible contribution to middle distance running.

Hicham never doped. If he doped he would be injured way more than normal. The reason he won so much is due to his training and his altitude training. He never really focused on volume he did more quality work than anything. His form energy efficient and kept him going at the pace he can hold for all his races he ran in his career. Do you really think an asthmatic person would dope Epo.

At the time Roger Bannister ran the mile for the first time in less than 4:00, no one even thought that was possible to achieve. Now if you look at Daniel Komen, he ran the 2-mile in under 8:00, I think the time was 7:58.61, or something like that. I would never say that no one will ever be like El Guerrouj. Not to mention that Jim Ryun was ahead of his time, now he wouldn't really be considered that fast of a runner compared to would class athletes today.

To those arguing here: Lukas V was TRULY 16 and running those times. African "teenagers" are easily in their mid-20's. But they call themselves 17 or whatever when they suddenly become good because they don't know what else to do without out birth records. So a 16yr old running 14:10 is a little different than a 23yr old running those JR "world records".
