I recall watching it the first time. This was about a year after they had profiled MJ on 60 Minutes and they showed him ironing his shirts in his little apartment. He showed such a winning, yet low-key personality that complemented his showmanship on the court. This guy absolutely had it all....and in time became the GOAT.

Others said it but it is amazing how he had the whole package . The charisma, charm, personality , and so intelligently spoken

I was at the Chicago Auto Show back in the 80's when Jordan was there promo'in the "Michael Jordan Blazer". I even got to ask a question to him during the Q&A, my voice cracked during it because I was so nervous. I also had that same Wilson basketball.

Anyone catch that at 23, he was already talking about stepping away from basketball in his early 30S? Even before the first three peat and his father passing. After his first retirement, he talked about always having planned on retiring from basketball. This is proof positive. None of us should’ve been very surprised in ‘93. We just weren’t paying attention because of his greatness in the game.

I was 15 in '86, this is back when the 1s ( they weren't called that back then bc those were the only pair at the time) were $65, that was a lot of money for Jordans or gym shoes in general back then.

it was sad that he retired before his prime ended due to tragedy even though that age was normal when he started and he predicted that age even then which is WILD, since plenty of guys played a lot longer. Maybe that foot break along with teams starting to "Jordan rule" and not have flagrants made him doubt he'd be able to be one of the longer lasting dudes like some of the bigger guys or PGs... but I think we're all grateful that he came back and proved you could still be not just an MVP but a demolisher of the league at a mid 35 even without modern medicine :) What a legacy. And I know people wanna ignore the Wizards but I won't do that. He was older and the medicine wasn't as good, and finally all the beatings he took and the resilience of his body lost out to father time. Not in terms of being even far better than an average NBA player. I think even after his Wizards retirement he could've still cooked all but the all stars and maybe with some modern medicine gone for longer if he wanted. But the man was perfection and ... well I'll just say I remember trying to play basketball and volleyball after my ankle spiral fracture. For basketball not a chance. For volleyball I could compensate more on sand but I had to totally change my style and be setter rather than hitter, and my body started betraying me. I knew where I wanted it to go in my head, but often my ankle would give out and it wouldn't get there and that was hard. I had the sense memory of the game, but to lose the abilities and then have the pain and other problems kick in... eventually it becomes less enjoyable. Still you saw moments that were still awe inspiring. To see a 40 yo chasedown pin to the backboard block is something to see and I don't know very many guys at age 40 who could do it, not even a lot of 40 yo players who stayed in the NBA and who were a lot taller than him. Even in modern medicine I'm sure we'll see it happen some day, but I dunno, think it will be awhile before we see another 40 yo replicate that against an NBA player in a fastbreak unless the NBA goes back to plumbers (it's a joke don't flame). Y'know the thing I do truly believe about MJ, for better or worse, is that he truly did always keep "the love of the game" clause both in his contracts and in spirit. I fully believe that NBA is a job and players have the rights to treat it like one -- but the players that people will always gravitate to calling the greatest are the ones who treat it as far more than a job -- as their lives, as a calling.
