Viper!? More like GRIPER am I right? But seriously... Here are some first impressions and thoughts/ramblings about the current state of Dawntrail's new melee DPS, Viper at level 100.

Id say no, when optimized It Is already hard to weave second Wind, bloodbath, arms lenght and feint... having more to weave Is not useful, If you Need more than this you probably fucked up 🤣 you dont have freedom like rpr to weave arcane crest when needed. Also, a point on 40s noxious. If It was 30-60, you would Need to cast DWs only on 30seconds to optimize, making you way less flexible of you need to stacks UFs fast. Tbh we Need more potency, reaper doing more than optimized viper should not be a thing

My brother, if you're trying to weave SW, BB, Feint and AL you're messing up way more than you would be if they had a single defensive that helped them on raidwides that go out every 30-60 seconds. That argument is a total non-starter. Potencies can be argued, and I even agree that Viper needs a small boost to make it slightly more competitive considering RPR has utility and VPR doesn't. Like I said in the video, Noxious being 40s could very well just be an expression thing that I need more time on. I openly admitted to that being a possibility. If it was 60s, it would definitely fundamentally change the rotational function, just like it would change if it was adjusted to any different length. But we always figure it out, either way.

It really doesn't. Homogenization is bad, let the glass Cannon be that high risk high reward. Not every job should have every bell and whistle, there should be trade offs.

Making the bar light up Red and Green is by far the best change they could make for the job.

I think the Vipersight gauge is pretty useless right now as you can just look at what lights up instead, what I think they should do is make the first two bars light up a color depending if its swiftskin sting or hunter's sting and change the colors of the icons too to match more visually better, and the second two bars light up green or red depending if its flank or rear and adjust what side glows so it doesn't matter how you set up your bars it will tell which button still. I also wish we can detach the uncoiled fury portion of the gauge to have the options to only use that with serpent offerings.

Overall very similar thoughts as i have so far! It's a very fun job that just needs to be communicated better I disagree that the Coils are ever an issue, the sound effect already tells enough since there's very rarely any reason for you to hear that sound and not immediately use it as soon as possible but i can understand why it's a bit annoying that your 2 mins also give a stack cus sometimes you just can't afford using a coil like 10 seconds before burst cus you gotta set up your buffs and debuffs I think the gauge should be flashing white if it's the first 2 parts of the combo, then flash green for sides and red for rear for the 3rd part of the combo, that, and make it so it has a glow or effect or anything when you're capped on Coils

@@sharlayanforum I also do believe the glow should be bigger/more prominent. Sometimes it blends in too well with the BG of the game.

My concern is the lack of defensive or group utility in light of potential damage nerfs. What is viper bringing to a group besides damage, and if that is all, is that really enough? Like the PvP kit has a really cool counter that hits big, would be fun to have that during bosses that AoE you all the time.

The fact that the Snake themed job doesn't have a strike back defensive is baffling to me. I think right now the damage it's dealing is high enough to compete with the jobs it's positioned to play against (mainly SAM) but I worry that it's lack of survivability may make SAM the better choice in a lot of Prog scenarios.

Rattling coil stack generation is fine if you get into the habit of keeping one stack on hand in case you have to move from the boss. A good example, would be the feathers in the EX 1 trial. A lot of dps get baited and die because they're greeding it. If you held onto your one stack and mapped your gcds to optimize the fight. You don't. Its a good quality of life addition, and for one savage isnt even out so we dont even know what mechanics we need to deal with or cd mapping. People say this is an easy job yet are crying for changes to make it easier. Baffling.

Yeah, I don't have a problem really with how the stacks are generated. Like I said in the video, my main issue is that I want them to be communicated in a format that makes it easier for me to see that I have three stacks and not overcap. There's plenty of opprotunity to use the stacks, that was never the issue. The feathers are a good example, or the front/back disconnect in EX2 or far away Donuts in the same fight. I have no issue with the skill or it's use, just that I often over cap by one because I want to save them for an upcoming burst. If there was a better reason to check my job gauge more frequently or an audible cue, this would be an instantly moot issue, and the job would be improved. I agree with people complaining about making the job easier being silly, but I don't think that saying I wish the job gauge wasn't completely useless (to me at least, but I don't think I'm alone in that critique) is me asking for the job to be easier. ​@sharlayanforum You don't need to save rattling coils for burst. They're not really a part of your "2-minute window" - double RA is. So as someone has already pointed out, you can use as soon as you accumulate unless you're optimizing for any disengage.

@bakchihin Having them around for odd minute bursts is a lot of potency if you don't need to conserve them for disengaging. I try to keep at least one stack at all times for mechanical movement if needed, and use the other two whenever I hit 3 so that I don't overcap.

⁠@@sharlayanforumodd minute bursts aren’t really a thing on viper. We kinda just use things as they come up between bursts. As no buffs really go out at the one minute mark. So again, you can just use them as you accumulate. Keep one on hand, and you’ll never have any issues with aligning bursts/gaining one from ire.

@standardstep 🫡 fair enough. I still want a better job gauge or sound cue. Like I said in the reply, I use them whenever I hit 3 and keep one. I would personally consider dumping these two extra stacks to prevent over-capping, then hitting DW combo Viper's unofficial "odd minute" burst, even if there are no buffs to align in that occurrence of skills.

I'm generally ok on Noxious unless I either have to detach from the boss for an extended time or I'm going into Reawaken. Also with Uncoiled I generally like to save as many as I can for movement phases so anytime I get that audio que I know it's time to pop one before I generate any more. Also, my personal favorite jobs playstyle wise were always GNB, RPR, and MCH. So VPR was pretty much made for me. It has become my new main.

Same! I love the job a lot. There's a ton to enjoy. I just want those couple pain points to be slightly less painful. I think a distinct audio cue on Coils would go a really long way, and like I said in the video, the Noxious thing could just be a skill expression thing that gets a lot more comfortable as I play the job in more fights and learn the fights a lot better.

Once I figured out how to read the job gauge I found I never had to look at my hotbars again. If the left side is lit up during your second hit you're doing flank enders. If the right side is lit up during your second hit your doing rear enders. I love this job.

Yeah, I picked up on that, but it sucks that the information is only available on the second hit when it could be available on the actual third hit. I really enjoy the job a lot, but I've basically trained myself to just never look at the bar or the gauge and just alternate rear and flank with each combo

I really didn't mind the gauge at first, but the more I play it the angrier it makes me lol. Thanks for checking out the video!

Agree totally with the Vipersight gauge. I was so confused when I first saw it with all the different colors and glowing sides until I realized it was just a useless combo tracker. Also the thing with the Dreadwinder combo positionals it just feels like there is no need for them to exist, they have already actively been removing positionals from other melees (Monk, Dragoon, Ninja) but for some reason add back to back positionals on a new job when it already has them in its basic combo. And give it a defensive, this job literally has a grand total of 2 cooldown abilities. Even Ninja has a defensive for crying out loud.

Indeed there is. I literally show it in the video, in fact! My complaint is that its the same exact audio cue as hitting 50 Serpent Offering, so the cue isn't particularly helpful outside of just telling you "One of the things happened."

I would think its be best to remove Vipersight guage, remove the the three diamonds for Coil and combine it with the Serpent Offering Gauge. I honestly feel like we only need one gauge and that the offering.

Yeah I really think the Vipersight Gauge feels more like an afterthought. Just let me track my Rattling Coils seperately.

I use a macro i wrote to take care of all that. Everything is easy mode really because once i activate the macro i can pay attention to the mechanic and run around and as long as im within the striking range of the mob the macro does its thing.

@@HeartPliz A macro that functions in the way that Remo claims to would have to be written and executed in a third party program. It's impossible to write a macro complex enough to execute a rotation with any stability or viability with the in-game tools. Not to mention it's considered botting by SE, so tread carefully!

I expect the changes they announce will be the removal of directionals on the Dreadwinder combo and Noxious Gnash being increased to 30/60
