@@MinnesotaEric There's something about that moment when a heavy object you've been manipulating get's away from you. When you jump back and resign yourself to the spectator role in the unfolding event before you. I've got a couple of 20ft boxes to reposition and will benefit from your experience. Thanks for sharing.

Yes - I agree - showed what cargo unit jacking is really like with limited resources. I had my hands full using a Farm Jack - if I'd had someway to attach my bottle jack, it would have been better. Thanks.

Just wanted to leave a little note for single women farmers. I also got the 20T hydraulic bottle jack from Harbor Freight. $100 with the 20% off coupon. Works with any small compressor with 90-120psi. I see many other uses for this jack around the farm. Thank you Minnesota Eric....I was looking at a big dollar bill to have someone come out and raise/balance my 40' which has sunk in 10 years. Now I can do this myself, snd many years to come.....

As clearly demonstrated in this video, it is vitally important to use a sole plate underneath any jack especially when it's not on a solid surface. Heavy duty timber is best and you need to at least double the surface area of the base of the jack. Bricks are just OK but can break under the loading stresses.

Containers need to be off the ground and supported on 4 corners only. The corners are the only part that are designed to carry the weight of the container and contents. If it is supported in other places, like the floor joists, there is a tendency for them to buckle. And if the joists are constantly on wet ground, there is a tendency for the to rust over the years. The boxes need to have the wind blowing underneath them.

Next time when you have the container dropped have the driver put dunnage (4”x4”x8’) under it. I just purchased a container and made sure that there was plenty of dunnage then skid where I wanted it later with a truck and chain. Next time you lift the container place at least a 1/2” steel plate under your Jack that is much larger than your jack base., this spreads the load out and is safer to lift. I prepared my ground with road base gravel and dunnage under the container the full width of the container on both end, the containers are designed to stack on the ends. I’ve worked on a few container cranes in my day. Words of wisdom from an Old school rigger/Union Ironworker. Good job glad you didn’t get hurt.

That one time use piece is 185 bucks on ebay. I just dug under the middle of one of the long sides of the container. I put down some solid blocks, set a bottle jack on it and lifted one side, placed blocks under each lifted end. Lowered the bottle jack, placed another block under the jack and raised the side again. I placed blocks under the lifted corners again. I did the same on the other side and now my container sits 8 inches above the dirt. I placed blocks along each side aboujt 10 ft apart along each long side. It took a lot of digging and block moving but I didnt spend 185 bucks or more on a device I only use once and that will slip and fall and throw my container out of alignment. I have these lined up side by side and I needed to raise them out of the dirt. Maybe if you had 2 but still, thats over $300 for a one shot thing.

Slick "locking toe jack adapter"! I have forklift and Simplex jacks but I'll fab a couple of those for my next move. (Self and bros have seven containers between us so far. I have three HIgh Cubes, two joined as a shop.) I use a railroad tie under each end when the container is delivered but that adapter would be useful when final-positioning containers using pipe rollers etc.

Having witnessed your jack push itself halfway into the ground, it might help to consider building some pads for the four corners and a set in the middle of the long sides. Your soil looks to be very samdy so unless proper preparations are taken the container will be shifting around until it has compressed the soil uniformly to its limits, which looks like might be beyond which you will be able to engage the camlock lifting fixture. If your bottle jack is 7-8" in diameter, two 8" x 8" x 16" set side by side, with two 1-1/2" x 8" x 16" stepping stones on top would present a 16" x 16" square pad to rest the container on. Some full contact shims from the metal supplier would help to level that beast once the container has compressed the soil uniformly. The closer to the container your jack rests, the less deflection you will have on the ram which can cause seal failure and jack ram bending and metal fatigue. Always secure that jack to the container with a heavy rope so it does not launch away from the container and strike anyone. If you do not have a surveying scope or laser level, you can get the pads all the same height with a hose full of water used as a level from one pad to another. The delivery truck should have had a ground anchor to screw into the soil to keep the container from moving once it touched the ground on one end. Also, you can oil the truck bed where the container slides to make it easy to slide off. A tow truck with a wheel lift borrowed for a few hours is also very handy when setting containers in place on piers, pads or a foundation. Consider yourself lucky to have not been injured so far. Doing the work is very satisfying when no one gets hurt.

@@rickyd8936 Ricky, I don't have a mailing list. Subscribe and and some point there will be a video about the things we're welding together. We hope (hope, mind you) to have something this fall.

I hope this man does not have children. Watch when puts the exetetion handle on the jack and then where he grabs the handle, yes he is grabbing the handle in the same place.

Ever used one of these style jacks before when they are under no load? The fastest way to pump them up is through the shortest motion. You'd know this if you had any, I mean any experience, Armchair Quarterback.

Dude does not understand leverage, or he forgot about it completely. He's holding the jack handle halfway down the damn thing. so cringe.

Every video i seen they jack it up on the corner. Why not jack it up in the middle on the ends? Think smarter.

Loaded 40' containers are not to be lifted from the center, only the from the ends. Empty containers can be moved by wheel loaders and large fork lifts from the center lift points.

MinnesotaEric if you read what I said, from the ends. Containers are 8 feet wide. In the center of the 8 feet.

Leroy 100 I did misread your remark. At any rate, there are no jack points in the center line at the ends of a container. Just the corners can be jacked. Jacking a loaded container on the centerline at the end would likely misalign the doors or fold the bottom.
@Leroy100
@Leroy100 3 жыл бұрын
MinnesotaEric jacking at the corners having a better chance of twisting and misalignment of doors. Unless you used 2 jacks, one on each corner lifting simultaneously. I did mine with one jack in center on the end and it lifted beautifully. When it is loaded and unloaded on the truck, it is lifted by the end, and doesn’t effect door operation or fold the bottom.

@@Leroy100 How much weight did you have in the container? My Danish-built, double-door HC 40' container has plagues on either end showing not to do what you're suggesting.
