You missed one critical point... And most commentators do... Lewis' car setup is fully skewed towards the race... He totally ignores qualifying so the fact that he's still up there shows he actually has more in hand. This is why George chews his tyres up faster as his setup optimises peak perforrmance!

What an emotional well deserved win for Lewis and Mercedes. My boy Max was no slough in second but it was Lewis's day as it should be. Congrats my man. Oscar merits a mention. If his team had had the guts to double stack, or simply pitted him 1 lap before Lando, he had a shot at the win. He did not overshoot his pitbox nor did he make the wrong tire choice. He would have been ahead of Lando for xusre.

Great video. Im not a Lewis fan but i was super happy for him because of how the last few years have tested his resolve. I think personally Lewis has lost a fraction of pace but he is like a world class footballer who has lost a bit of pace, you have to find different ways to adapt your game that enhances your other strengths. The desicion to use higher downforce was genius in the end because once it was mixed conditions he instantly got his teammate, and i think being a thinking driver may allow Lewis to find different ways to win because i dont believe he has a raw pace advantage over the likes of Max, Lando, Russell, Piastri, Charles but he can beat them with brains. For me at Silverstone we saw a few things, Norris has everything apart from the capacity to make crucuial desicions while in the heat of the battle, Mclaren have forgot how to win, Russell has the speed but he thinks to much for the here and now, If Lewis is perfect he will win races but for me Max is still a cut above the rest the Red Bull was not at its best but at the end of the intermediate stint before he went on the hards he took about 3seconds out of Lewis and Lando and then on the hards continued the hunt. When i watch Max now i see him how i saw Schumacher, and how i saw Lewis when they were on the hunt, like they are inevitable even when his car isn't the best you have to be perfect to beat him. The fact that Lando over shot his pit box was so important because had he of got out ahead of Lewis, they would of battled for a lap or 2 which would have been perfect for Max but most importantly it was a great race.

Great video Shez. I agree. It really was watching the best two drivers on the grid race - Max and Hamilton. And the story was fantastic. I am a max fan and I will point out a couple of things that you did not point out. Max passed Lando in first or 2nd corner - wow again. Max extended his team and driver lead with a slower car through strategy and perfection and just never giving up. He should have been 5th. He should not have qualified 4th. But yes Hamilton was very impressive too. I said before the race to my wife, its fine if someone else wins as long as its Mercedes but it got even better by splitting the points between McLaren and Mercedes, with Max up the middle.

As long as a driver can still have his performance support to show his absolute best, he is in his prime. It doesn't matter whether he is 20ish, 30ish, 40ish, or even 50ish. F1 racing isn't Tennis, athletic or football. A tennis player, an athletic and a footballer’s drive come from himself. Meanwhile, a driver/a rider drive’s come from the cars/bikes set by the engineers.

It's interesting to note Max was no where to be seen when McLaren, Mercedes and Redbull had the SAME TYRES. Max ONLY made progress when he had a tyre advantage (hard vs Lando & Lewis's softs). Not sure if you brought this up in this video but there was a former f1 driver or engineer, someone idk exactly but explained why Lewis struggles with these generation of pirelli tyres when it comes to tire warm up and overall quali performance. I’m not sure if I agree with your statement regarding “he’s always had some deficit to great qualifier teammates in the past” Lewis has 104 poles for a reason. I wouldn’t slight Lewis as a qualifier at all. He is great.
@tyredf1pod

Thanks Livefast We did a video about Lewis’ qualifying a while back. Against really top qualifiers he doesn’t always come out on top: Fernando 2007 (fuel adjusted); Nico in 2014
@livefast-xc8lm
@livefast-xc8lm Ай бұрын
@@tyredf1pod 1. for clarification, this was said recently by someone who knows about the tyres and the way Lewis drives. It’s comparable to Charles driving style and why he has struggled in qualifying this year also. 2. I didn’t say Lewis always came out on top over other top qualifiers however Lewis in 2007 was a rookie going up against a 2x wdc in Alonso🤯 I don’t think that’s a great example on your part, should be some Grace there nonetheless. Max gets coddled by the f1 community for getting outqualified by Danny Ric when max was a rookie. Lewis got out qualified by a 2x champ his rookie season but you brought that up as your argument for Lewis not always out qualifying top level qualifiers like that🤷🏽‍♂️ We look way too deep into Lewis because he’s the goat of the sport. It’s always “Lewis vs this driver or scrutinizing Lewis for certain things we didn’t other drivers”. We gotta keep that same energy we do with Lewis to the other drivers we considered greats. Lewis has been the most battles tested goat in f1 history.

Hamilton leaving to Ferarri is starting to look like a Alonso type career decision. Mercedes and Mclaren out developing Ferarri with ease. In fact, some of Ferarris upgrades have even introduced bouncing and took them backwards. Ferarri can start seasons with a good car but they always get out developed.

@@stevenst6337 this is a stretch. New regs in 2026, I think you’re too fixated on next year. A bunch of new personnel from different teams are joining Ferrari. Newey is still in the conversation. Things aren’t a guarantee for Merc either next year or new regs. Can’t say it’s looking like a “Fernando type of decision” for Lewis just because Merc found some pace since Canada. Too early to make that judgment.

@@livefast-xc8lm well yeah its not a garunteed for any team but Ferarri certainly isnt a favorite if I was a betting man. @@stevenst6337 true, I get where you’re coming from. But I can make the same argument that mcl and merc from 2022-2023 couldn’t bring upgrades that worked either. However if I were to bet I would still take Ferrari since they’ve been 2nd after Redbull relatively all of this period of regulations. New personnel signed to the team already for 2025, more coming with Lewis signing, newey potentially signing. That is more promising imo for not only 2025 but for the new regs.

lewis's struggles are tiresome related not performance related whenever he has tires switched up he is unmatched he just struggled a little too much warming up these new tires when he joined f1 the tires used to be completely opposite of what they are now and drivers like him and alonso have to adjust massively to be on top of the game these new drivers always grow up through junior ranks with newer tire compounds extremely soft and very prone to degradation
@tyredf1pod

I mean he’s been in F1 for 17 years and has been around for the entirety of the Pirelli era. I agree it’s not performance related insomuch as he’s still got the inherent ability to get a time out of the car. But, prepping the tyres is the driver’s job, so if he’s not doing that effectively - he needs to do the work to improve it no?
