The only problem of the "wait for Max to make an mistake" theory is that he is the one who commits the least errors of all of the front runners. He won Canada cause Lando made mistake after mistake, same in Spain. Russell also lost Canada because of his mistakes. Max has been very mistake free when under pressure. So for him to make a mistake, they have to bring it to him, as in Austria

He gets hot under the collar when things aren't going his way. You can get to him and he does make mistakes. It won't be easy, but beating Max never has been and never will be. I think the point overall is that you need to be more strategic about getting by him. Make him unsure of what you're going to do next and he wont be so ready to block it.

Some in the media and some fans just wanted Max to drive like he got a blue flag. Just get out of the way. Honestly I’m not all that much of a fan blue flags for back markers. Maybe if it would impede a battle of the front runners. Like if cars on the main lap are within DRS of each other, then you are obliged to get out of the way. I get why that reg is there though. You’d have a team allow their #2 to get lapped and hold up the pack. But sometimes I feel like “formula B” is no less entitled to their race than those on the lead lap.

Lando is a little nepobaby the guy thinks that he suddenly deserves all the win now that he has the fast car.. What were you armchairs expected Max to do? Just move over and give the win away? GTFO here with that snowflake DTS racing.. we want hard racing. Max does not give af about P2, he said it himself he's here to win and he rather DNF than Finnish p2.. Lando had all the space in the outside but decided to DNF himself and Max and ofc who else was the stewards that week.. He can be. But I still think he has a version of "fair" that is more consistent than most "dickish" drivers in the past whos motto was just "you shall not pass" (thinking Schumacher primarily, but senna too at times) Max is game for a fair fight as long as it's on his terms... Which we get into in our video. Defining what his terms actually are.

If we still had the '21 rules, the onus would have been on Lando to avoid contact but they literally changed the rules because of Max. So, the problem is that we have driver that keeps driving to his own tune and the FIA keep having to adjust for him. This is not sporting. Then on top of that, so many people are ignoring the fact that Max tried to drive Lando off the track after they collided. This is why there is a problem with Max he is a brat if not anything else

Moving under braking (breaking?). Is a rather vague rule- but what about “predominantly”. How much? - 60/40 - 10/90 - 51/49. Is it all the same …and…even more importantly… should.. we not have Major and Minor punishments. 60/40 =. 10secs/6secs. Resulting in 4secs for the 60 %, In case of predominance, which was the case in MV<>LN, the heaviest punishment was given to Max and none to Lando, Fair??

So first off just for full disclosure I'm the guy in this video. I'm also a marshal and I have no rooting interest for any driver. I think F1 has lost its way with these penalties. They're inherently unfair because 5 sec at the start of a race or at the end for the same offense isn't the same. Especially if you get a 5 sec right after a sc like Carlos did at melb last year. It's just a bad way to dole out justice. I think we make the penalties more severe (back to drive thru or stand alone stop go) but only apply them for the most egregious and clearly unsporting behavior, or things related to safety like ignoring flags. I'd be more in favor of just issuing warnings and then giving real penalties with teeth if those warnings go unheeded. Breaking penalties down into different timing increments is just making it even more complicated. Let's just let them race...
@tyredf1pod
@tyredf1pod Күн бұрын
Don’t need penalties for everything. Threat of a collision and loss of places, wins, titles whatever should be enough of a deterrent The only additional thing we didn’t talk about was for absolutely egregious moves a penalty should be considered but not by a part time steward. Full time stewards who have built up experience of the rules and methods of the drivers would make much more sense

It's racing and we want to see that, and sometimes things go wrong, but that's also racing. Max makes no mistakes for about 40 races and if something small happens, the British media turns a mouse into an elephant. I think that's good because more and more people see how biased they are. Ultimately, the credibility of British media is a joke. More and more people around the world are seeing how the British media works, and it is very toxic. They are frustrated that their compatriots are being defeated time and time again. There are now 5 British people in F1 with bearman, and the British still cannot win. That is very sweet and beautiful. I wouldn't think this way if the British media weren't being so toxic. Do you get my point? This behavior does not work in the British's favor.

So back to Max as top GOAT - who else can be so close to the edge without going over it. I think that Lando's reaction/ apology and Peter Windsor and DC has shone more light on this debate. Lando actually said that Max penalty was questionable. But the amazing thing is how black and white the anti max people still are.

The problem with Max is that his "hard" racing" is crashing. They always say " rubbing is racing" and that is the proper way to race hard. I would see Lewis race Fernando and we all know how much Nando likes Lewis but you would never see those two giving each other race ending clashes. So we just relegated to watching carbon flying everywhere, next punctures and non racing. It would be a lucky situation if that is all that happens. What if someone ends up in the hospital or worse someone dies.

When is MaX likely to give his way to someone whose raceing is better than him? Of course, this will be when this next driver is significantly better than himself. First, he was de hunter. This has started when de best driver is in reach of his driving skills. Next stage, he himself became the best driver himself. From there on, he will be different his behind. This stage will take as long as the next best driver needs to surpass him in driving skills. And the care plays the necessary decisionary par in this process So stop this sorrow storytelling way and just give us sports reporting

Sky Sports F1 probably begging the FIA to police everything. But them f's were clearly lost after Christmas '21 (or perhaps it was their marketing department that was creating ads). All the drivers held the line on Thursday. Lewis "ain't nothing to do with me" Hamilton probably wondered why he was on the couch for this dumb question in the first place. All the other drivers, including GPDA and almost the whole F1 world excluding some very notable (despicable might also be a word here) characters thought the Max penalty was over the top. Max pretty much singlehandedly got the Silverstone stands fully packed over an incident that mainly could have been avoided by Lando. And if Lando would have been underneath Max' rear wing then he could have made the switchback and we'd have a run to turn 4 where he could have made the move.

I agree with you that the Max moving under braking is a subjective call. I even said that there can be degrees to it. Sometimes it’s all about the eye test. I don’t think anyone can say that Max was being desperate in defense and while I have no issue with it, the collision happened in part because of that desperation. I also pointed out that Lando has yet to figure out Max. So it’s both their fault but Max is more responsible. Btw, he fared quite ok. I'd like to tackle this whole British driver trope. I think that it's largely overblown but as a Canadian who cheered for the ever unpopular in Britain Jacques Villeneuve I can remember Jonathan palmer in particular being absolutely brutal in his criticism regardless of how well he did. After taking DC's seat in 96 he kept his while Williams ditched hill so he was public enemy number one on the beeb. So I kind of feel like it's always just been a part of it or I'm desensitized to the UK slant on sky because it's a lot less overt or at least coached in "fake fairness". Back in the day Murray (rip and God love the man) used to wrap himself in the union Jack and we loved him for it anyways. Because he was honest about it.

I just clicked on this, but going off of the title, I have a question. Is everything supposed to be sensitive, and is everybody supposed to be a snowflake or a teddy bear, and does everything have to be so censored? We have Yuki getting a 40,000 Euro fine for saying a word that everyone used to call their friends when they were being dumb just 10-15 years ago... you have drivers that can't even produce exciting racing anymore because that is too much for people nowadays, and you can't show any type of aggression or establish dominance because you're going to get penalized... this is exactly what made Formula 1 exciting 50, 40, 30, 20, 10 years ago and it is exactly what's making it more exciting again, finally. People using woke as an epithet is weird to me. First off, I'm the dude in the bottom square of the video and you'll find we actually all agree the penalties and what not should go away. Let the drivers fight and battle and police themselves. Let's not conflate that with using words that are meant to other and hurt. Just because they were used with impunity in the past doesn't mean it was good to do it. We can all just be better people if we agree to be nice to others, and using language used to denegrate others that was used to describe people with disabilities they can't help? It's not right. There's lots of words you can use to insult me let's not resort to one's that denegrate a group of people. A lot of times people just turn "hey let's not be jerks" into "why is everyone so woke". Insult me all ya want but don't use words that denegrate disabled people.

Spot on 💪🏻🔥. The rule book is crazy. In the US they laugh about this kind of refereeing the drivers. The British press makes much more out of this than it actually was.

@@tyredf1pod Think your missing the point where it comes to Eddie's statements. I see it as an observation. People (as young as they were) had a thicker skin to begin with and words like ret**d or m*r*n weren't even registered. You just knew that you were being a dumbass. Man up and all and continue playing. Make sure that some comments never make it to the broadcast (since not all racers comments go 'live' anyway) and have a talk with the driver and give them a formal warning that some language is not necessary. But everyone gets offended out of the name of someone else. It's just pathetic and it shows in the idea that everything has to be penalized today. Because some self proclaimed minority might be offended.

All the drivers have stated that max did nothing wrong, it was just hard racing. All this is just the British media trying to drag max’s name through the mud.

Max did not know Lando had track 5 s infraction penalty when they crashed together. Peter Windsor view is that max did not turn into Lando but even with no turned wheel the car naturally moved into Lando path and thus should not have been a penalty. And then there was much debate whether max should have had a pit interference penalty or a moving into path penalty. All of which was adjudicated by FIA. Obviously there are contrary views - and that's why FIA is there. I think that the collision was a race incident. But the FIA says not - and they are the judge - so I accept it. Others say Lando pit infractions were not - again that's why we have FIA. Why can't others accept that the other 2 turn ins are properly judged. The irony is that RB chose a bad tire strategy (used mediums), lost 3 seconds in pits, and RB still gained in driver and constructor competitions because the 4,5,6th drivers got more points but they are so far behind it does not matters, and Lando had a hissy fit and did not go back out because he was upset. Let's just get ready for another fun race next weekend.

Some people are blaming completely Max others completely Lando and that is just not the case. I believe both drivers had their roll in that collision that you could see coming from laps ahead considering the way max was moving in the breaking it was only inevitable that Lando was going to loose his patience. Regardless of what people want to see max was pulling dangerous moves and Lando was also making clumsy divebombs. Max had every right to defend his position but there are other ways, I didn’t like that max didn’t give the position back after Lando did. This will to be another lesson for Lando which I’m sure he’ll take, people are so quick to criticize but if you think about this is the very first genuine battle they’ve had other times it’s been just Lando chasing max or Lando letting by max for the obvious reason that the car was just way better than his and he doesn’t want to ruin his race so of course he’s not going to win this first battle against a 3 time world champion that’s had years of front line experience. People are going to be quick to say “well Charles can do it” of course he can Charles is a fantastic driver but he’s also been racing max for the majority of his life. Also has been in a Ferrari which has arguably been one of the fastest cars the last few years even though not the fastest. I believe right now that there are two drivers that know exactly who max is and how he drives and those are Lewis and Charles because they’ve experienced it first hand. Lando doesn’t have that experience because one way or another the opportunity to race each other in similar machinery hadn’t come. Although I do have a feeling that if max was doing what he was doing any other young driver with no experience fighting max would have reacted like Lando. I am a fan of multiple drivers including max so take it with a grain of salt and don’t bash me people.

Really good summary Agree with lots of that Think there’s a disparity between what Lando expected in a fight with Max and the reality of it. Max on the other hand will just say - “this is how I race”

You’re wrong in thinking this was Max being short sighted. He has a long term plan for defeating Lando, just as he did Lewis. Terrorize him into hesitation. I also think Max respects LeClerc more and has a different way of racing him. He’s looking at his rivals and planning ways to beat them over a season. In Lando’s case, Max’s approach seems to be to bully him.
