This is Lex's first time hearing The Real Slim Shady. Some people find that hard to believe, but she didn't grow up listening to Eminem. She's probably heard some of it in passing though, who knows.

IMO the GOAT. There so many people like Jay-z, Kanye, Lil Wayne, Nas, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-ONE, DEL, Ice Cube, PAC, BIGGIE, RAKIM, Kool-G Rap, Snoop, Blackalicious, Big L, Ol' Dirty Bastard, etc... but few can lyrically stand up to EM. The man is just a unicorn in the game. Nobody like him and never will. IMO he will at least be top-3 all-time. People have diff opinions and all but you know..

That was old school Em where he was just wild and crazy. The reason you remember the hook is because he became so popular that even rock stations played his main hits. Almost all his older music is more silly and unapologetic. And thank you SO much for doing the uncensored version. The first serious music video I think was Not Afraid. As far as main album music videos.

When your mentor is sitting in the studio and shaking his head and thinking to himself, Man, this dude crazy as hell, what the fuck have i created" - Dr. Dre during the entire time he was producing the second and third Eminem albums. Every time he'd make a beat and Eminem would come in with a piece of scratch paper and say, "I'm ready" Dre had no idea what he was about to hear but he knew it would be epic. Those multisyllabic rhymes were way ahead of their time and he's kept the complexity of them ahead of everybody for 25 years. I remember one song where a small part of a bar was "I'm diabolical, you're gonna die a ball licka" and he bent the words the way Jimmie Hendrix use to bend missed notes to turn it into the right note. When you're playing 10 notes every 2 seconds, to hit the wrong note, realize you hit the wrong note and bend it to the right note before the note even makes its sound is weirdly comparable to what Eminem does with words as far as genius is concerned. And that genius separates Eminem from the rest of the lyricists out there. Others can do it but not at that level

I love this song so much, cause I was bullied in school for being white, fat, and shy asf and I was tired of it finally, I memorized this song specifically, cause I had a plan. And when I felt comfortable enough to spit this song without the music playing, I embraced it and I wrote slim shady with a sharpie on my off brand converse tips lol and when I went to school the next day dressed like Eminem in the tee shirt and stuff in this video, my mama let me bleach my hair and everything cause she saw how bad the bullies were and said I was gonna show they couldn't hurt me anymore lol and that day at school, they started in on me, I didn't say nothing, I sat down like I always did, and I started working on my morning work and one of my main bullies, he spoke out and said, "Will the real slim shady please stand up?" And I stood up and I threw my hand up, spit the first verse and got half way through the chorus, then got sent to I.S.S. They called my mom and when I got home, she said I went too far with it, but she said she was proud of me lol Was totally worth it and the bullies eventually stopped, but this song definitely made me feel more comfortable at school in my own skin after that. Lol Edit: Oh, I forgot to add that this was in 6th grade and until the day I graduated, this was an on going joke around the kids about me in school lmao and even still now as an adult, every other year on fb, people that I went to school with will post "I repeat, will the real slim shady please stand up?" on my wall. It's hilarious to me, cause it brings back a great memory I hold dear to me lol

"I should download an audio and mp3"... That's a dig at Britney Spears because it was almost entirely her and Metallica (Lars Ulrich more specifically) who started the whole 'downloading music is illegal' scam. They were likely both just puppets of the RIAA, but they were directly responsible for Napster's demise and RIAA changing laws in their favor to make downloading music illegal (As opposed to sharing something you purchased and/or recording off the radio which were both well established as legal at that point).

This song was so insanely massive back in the day. I was 13 back then and most of us didn't have computers home back then (and internet wasn't what it is back then), so we were just waiting for this song to come on the music TV. Every 1-2h it would repeat and we were so pumped. Then someone "burned" me the album on a CD and I could rock it on my walkman 😄 I don't know if you know this, but Eminem really had three rap personalities: Eminem, Marshall Mathers, and Slim Shady, and all of them are different. - Mashall was hardship and challenges in real life - Eminem was rapping about crazy stuff, hoes, booze etc - Slim was rapping about really harsh stuff like death, rape etc

React to Em’s song “Without Me”. It’s old school Em and he says “we need a little more controversy because it feels so empty without me”. He uses the nan nan nanna nan nan na na near the end of the song and that’s why Tom MacDonald did the na na na’s in Dear Slim. and it’s perfect because Em used to be the controversial one and now Tom is. Nobody picked up on that specifically except me. #HOG

40.4k!!! Keep it going! Eminem came out swinging, but he had that big label budget behind him too with being a Dre signing. It's crazy how this industry takes artists and over the years either hollows them out or even worse kills them (the 27 club is a great example)... Eminem never really spoke too much on political things, social issues of the day etc. so he's a little vapid for my tastes. Eminem's Counter Culture Status back in the day had little to do with his Politics and more to do with the delicate sensibilities that he wasn't just offending but demolishing on a massive scale due to his wide appeal, which in turn got the attention of the government.
