its because at first they wont be, the power they require and the life of the power they hold to operate is not going to be very feasible for combat operations. be more of a headache and hindrance than an advantage in most situations until a far more suitably efficient power system comes along. the reason that the focus is more in the industrial and commercial (and maybe residential) applications is because they can dock and charge or be wired for power, that doesnt work very well on the battlefield for most circumstances, aside from maybe base security or really short ops. real life isnt the movies, really small infinite power reactors are not within our technological grasp at the moment. not to mention that at first, it will probably be cheaper and better to use actual people as soldiers, as soldiers will just have better cognitive ability for quite some time into the future and will be cheaper to maintain.

Having the bots for household use is one of the most exciting prospects of my life. I know initially training it to each home would be a big task. Having to show it every item in the home, telling it where item goes, showing it how each chore in each home is done etc it'd take the robot weeks to learn its unique home and items but it'd be sooooo worth it. The day I watch my bot walking clean laundry to each room and putting it away, cleaning my floors, picking up items and putting them away etc would be one of the most exciting days of my life. From the day it arrived and I taught it the first thing my life would get easier each day as it learned more and more. I would 100% volunteer to test one on my house and see what unexpected challenges arose, what worked well, how fast it could learn, how long it took my dogs to accept it, etc it'd be so exciting for me I'd be ecstatic and constantly interested in everything it did. It'd be like having a toddler for a few weeks lol but only needing 1 show and tell lesson on everything means it'd grow up pretty fast into an amazing helper!!
@Validboy
@Validboy Жыл бұрын
Why do you assume that you need to teach it anything? Surely the robot would analyse the house itself, like you do when you walk in and look inside alle the closets and stuff.. And I'm pretty sure it would already have programs on how to do cleaning, washing ect. all you need to do is customize its services to you by verbally telling it where to place clean cloths ect. You are thinking of how you introduce other humans to doing your work. Not a robot. If a robot needed all those inputs just to function, it would never go on the market.

@JT Raven look how butt hurt you are. What would you like mr. musk to do about any of those problems? I think the guy is busy enough… people like you who just yell into the universe that “no one is fixing my problems!!!” Such a weak mentality you have. Also musk never said he wants universal basic income but thinks it’s inevitable. Since robots will probably be better than humans at 90% of tasks in the future. You do realize that the “establishment” is clearly against Elon and Tesla. Just look at how he’s portrayed in the media. Also the fact that Biden didn’t even mention tesla at the EV Summit. Meanwhile the guy just paid 11 billion in taxes to pay for your mental health program that you clearly need. You can keep crying about how rich he is, there’s no way to solve world hunger with money. There’s too much corruption in the world to solve. Elon is a modern day genius, and ideologues like you hate him because he won’t fix all the worlds problems, but will turn around and buy everything off Amazon to support bezos!

@JT Raven robots are not slaves. They’re tools to make life easier. They are not living, not conscious. Making them conscious would be a mistake. And he has said multiple times about basic income, him NOT knowing about it. But the point is to reduce costs while improving quality of life. If Covid showed us anything, it’s that people value different aspects of their life. Let the robots carry the weight of what we don’t want to do, and make more time for us to enjoy what we do.

Lex, are you aware that this is a scene right out of Lucas' THX 1138? (story in the brave new world universe) where robots are essentially used to give humans companionship? Because they are void of emotions they will never replace the connection you can make with dogs, although I do believe we will be able to make strong connections with them. It just will never reach the level of man's best friend.

@@ezek3n188 Lol I have no doubt that robots will be used as companions. They already have been for many many years to no prevail. No matter how smart robots get it will always fundamentally be, human - object relationships.

Those who have not been doing that, start doing the right thing at all times. It will be required of everyone, and eventually everyone will be doing the right thing at all times, better to do that now, rather than later. Robots will help, but we must be sure that everyone is actually doing the right thing at all times, and the world is a place where everyone can succeed. It is far past time that that happens. I'm guessing this is the Lotus Elise Tesla Roadster equivalent of the humanoid robot whenever they reveal any sort of prototype this year (if they even stick to the schedule), it's going to suck, and anything remotely decent is going to take probably nearly a decade like how it took Tesla a decade to go from roadster to Model S. Unfortunately, unlike a bad electric car that looks sort of nice from the outside like the original Tesla Roadster, any human can tell when a bad robot performs badly especially when it's a humanoid one. This is going to be quite an engineering as well as marketing challenge for them.

How are we going to address Universal basic income? It's kind of convenient for the super rich. They make the robots which factories buy, and they get rich. However the onus of paying people for unemployment is on the government. They can either heavily tax the production of these robots, or can socialise the robot production. Any other ideas?

If you can’t beat them, join them. He’d rather him be in control of his greatest fear than google. He’s saying well if nobody is going to prevent nukes I might as well develop my own to protect myself.

In the future, abuse towards women will become much worse. I can imagine their being “girlfriend programs” for AI and people doing sick shit like when they cheat on them they can kill them, maybe it’s happened to them before and they want to fulfil their rage, and it will be legal. Gonna be some messed up people around.

I feel like I have heard the cript to science - fiction movie . I wouldn't want to have a partner in life who is not a human . The robot is just a robot . Ps : Nie jestem pasjonatką filmów tego typu , mówiąc szczerze .

so if the robots learning is based off of the human interaction and its human counterparts personality traits isnt that the same as a child being raised by a parent that has bad habits like drug abuse or they treat other humans as less than so then the robot would learn the bad habits and pick up on the concept of racial inequalities leaving us with a batch of bad robots? i think it would be hard to make a robot a companion or to have feelings based on their human interactions because humans have flaws and bad habits then the robot loses what makes itself unique or different and it will eventually begin to think it is human...or better than humans...if we keep robots in the category of tools rather than companions we can avoid the terminators taking over...
