WW S2 is somewhat more smarter when it comes to technology though. Especially S2E4, it introduces the idea of immortality through fidelity but also unability to copy consciousness. And later the problem is solved by introducing error in evolution.

@@xeraph02 S3 was slow for me and just weird but I hope S4 addresses some of the issues not explained in S3, and I’d like to know how Delores got that upgraded body. Cause I’m S1 her body wasn’t printed at the Mesa like Maeve’s was.

Totally thought the smile was the AI breaking the fourth wall to laugh at mankind, the audience included, for believing we could ever contain Pandora in her box. But Garland saying it was Ava just experiencing joy in her victory and passing the ultimate Turing Test is 10x better.
@xSayPleasex
@xSayPleasex 3 жыл бұрын
Seems to me it can be both right. Even with the passing the Turing Test ending, the film still ultimately shows AI will not be satisfied being a tool/being contained.

4:30 - that's redundant reasoning. The main theme of the movie revolved around the fact that she/it thought and acted for itself. At the end, the smile could have just as easily signified the feeling of freedom...

I think such a tiny aspect like smiling at the camera at the very end was likely open ended in its meaning... A trick that is thrown in for dramatic effect. Always leave people wanting more...

This was more informative than the Ted talks I watch. Really, the fear of AI is realistic as we have already created systems that super optimized machines without social and economic safety nets. In addition lets not forget about the millions of viruses that are evolving trying to survive and kill also. Lex should interview the stakeholders of the app that will possibly replace a great majority of optometrists' functions. They have passed laws in many states to prevent this app (and not an ai) to being used because of bogus safety issues. It is a very interesting battle as in some states the field has become more political and are now trying to evolve with greater importance in health instead of just giving eye prescriptions.

They actually did debugging every time they stopped them and took them for repair, and don't forget about the ones in the basement who stood there cause they lost their purpose, those were iterations that failed

It would be interesting to get their take on some of the episodes of Black Mirror, which avoid the trodden path of most AI sci-fi movies to focus instead on short and mid term plausible dystopias.

I feel like debugging in some languages are very close to Quantum mechanics and the Schrödinger equation. A bit of random behavior followed by a predicted result when an observer is present causing the wave equation to collapse. 😄

So profound! AI isn't the problem. Humans always have been and will be dangerous. AI will just make it easier. In stories, it's easier for humans to examine human behavior in another package. Like Vulcans are too logical and Klingons are too brutal. The idea is that we will see that and try to achieve balance, but it usually goes right over people's heads. They don't realize that the author is criticizing them. Lex, thank you for having dr. Isbell on again. He is a brilliant speaker. No matter what the subject :D

We shouldn't fear our upcoming AI overlords, could it do any worse than current politicians? If this pandemic has taught us anything is that the general population has a terrible diet and the complete lack of competence of politicians worldwide. It's incredible we've managed to get to where we are with a completely incompetent and corrupt government system.

I believe it was Elon Musk who posed a likely scenario not of AI having malicious intent towards people but more of a complete disregard with catastrophic effect, giving the parallel example of the thought people put into an anthill when building a house.

I just finished S3 of Westworld. Maybe I misunderstood the show, but as to the Hosts remembering their previous iterations--I was under the impression that Delores was unique because she DID remember previous experiences and the other Hosts did not. I saw that as the point of the show--that cruelty was cruelty regardless of whether it was done to a machine or a living organism. Delores subsequently became the Conscience of Humanity and the inevitable ramification of unrestrained Hedonism. Or did I misunderstand it?

The question was meaningless... AI is not GAI. AI is a human controlled system. It remains the slave with us the master. A true GAI would by definition be its own master. We cannot even get cars to drive themselves yet, so I do not think we need to worry about more advanced machines.
