I live in Botswana, Africa and we have the largest elephant population in the world. Elephants walk through my father's farm atleast once every year and they literally take down ANYthing in their path😂 no fence, tree or water tank is safe. But we cant complain because its their land, they're the boss😅

saw them in the wild before, they are MASSIVE. african elephants are no joke. when we got near, you saw them gently form a circle around the young, and then one BIG elephant stood guard and kept watching our tour car. basically letting us know if we got too close, it was going to toss the car. gentle giants tho. they didnt make any sound and it was just a warning.

I was lucky enough to spend a few hours with a week-old baby African elephant (male) at the Oakland zoo in the early 90s. My GF was a volunteer there at the time and friends with the elephant curator. I've never felt so 'seen' by an animal before. He might as well have been a human baby. He was about 250 pounds, his skin felt like velvet, and I swear he smelled like baby powder. His mother was in the next room with her best friend and very freaked out because she didn't know she was pregnant when she gave birth, which was why little Kijana was being hand raised. Elephants need to be raised by their mothers in order to understand what birth/babies even means. It's not instinctive, much like us. When you look in the eyes of these beings, you are absolutely being regarded with enormous intelligence and understanding. Paul is right, this is a wholly separate society that deserves all the respect awarded to humans. Unfortunately, we can't even award that respect to many of our own. If we bite the dust as a species, elephants deserve the next crack at hegemony. They are true stewards of the planet.

I drive into the center of absolute Southern New Hampshire today. The town of my youth. Mason. Arriving at 12 noon in fog and overcast of the pedigree New England Summer onset argument of heat vs. the latent humidity that Spring should have solved. With no Spring, the heat and humidity combine to an unnatural hybrid of the 1st and 2nd season welding together. With a proper cycle of New England weather, the dry of Summer sun lighting, happens post the Spring thaw and reformation. Anyone over 33 years around the universe can recall dry New England Summers. To not be overtaken with the sultry August, that fades into Autumn. August comes to interrupt June, not good for the ancient story of order.

Here's the thing about Proboscidea. We haven't just been living around them, and they didn't "guide" us along our evolutionary path. We ate Proboscidea, mostly elephants, mammoth and Mastadons. We grew big brains because we had to outsmart the smartest animals on earth. The nutrition in an elephant is so good, it grows big brains....quickly....
@joshthom1937

Nope sea protein does....getting to the oceans and having an abundance of food did two things. High brain protein and time. We had time to start doing human things. Making things like jewelry and art . Development of culture ect...
@user-xt1de9jr9l
@user-xt1de9jr9l 13 күн бұрын
@@joshthom1937 you say that with such confidence. As if you have anthological evidence that pre dates 160 000 ya proving seafood was a main source of nutrition. Which you don't, because there isn't any. And all of our evolving was done by 160K ya. However theres plenty of evidence we ate and preferred Proboscidea, fossil records, anthropology, nitrogen isotope readings of UPMH bones. Marrow and Brain tissue contains the exact nutrients to make brain growth a priority. Fucking seafood! Contains some but not all of what is required. Seafood is generally a pretty average source of nutrition. Mostly because it's so low in fat. Specifically saturated fat. There's nothing "magic" in seafood..

@josho5423
@josho5423 9 күн бұрын
I’m mot sure if this guy is a little woke or thinks misrepresenting elephants to be this species of female superiority will help his career. While the large herds of elephants are led by a female, usually the oldest and strongest physically/socially, it isn’t really a conscious choice or because the females are wiser. The males are taller and MUCH bigger, but when they reach their teens they tend to become very adventurous and aggressive l, similar to human males. Elephants often form groups with their sisters and then their children, making it more a familial relationship than hierarchical one. Sometimes the males will be shooed away if they are being too chaotic, but most of the time the males wander off by choice to go it alone or usually form groups with other young males. This is likely because these herds would become severely imbred if males did not leave. The males aren’t exactly kicked out of the group as many will tell you, in fact they often go back to visit their mothers and herd on a regular basis. There is this narrative that elephants are a matriarchal society but it’s not really the case, despite the fact many choose to view it as such. They aren’t patriarchal either, rather teen and adult males and females have distinct ways of living. The females live in groups of females and children, usually all related and led by the older, wiser female while the teen and adult males live in groups of friends, usually led by an older, wiser male. These groups will still interact but the general rule is they travel in these distinct groupings. If an older male group leader has a disagreement with an older female group leader, the female won’t be respected because of her status as a matriarch. Elephants are very social creatures that just have distinct gender roles, and while males are much larger and stronger as usual, they don’t interact too much outside of mating. It’s still quite unique and fascinating, I don’t understand the point in claiming they are a matriarchal species though. For what, to get girls excited about elephants? A woman who would only be interested in elephants just because she was told they lived in a matriarchal society would be just as pathetic as a guy who was only interested in Gorillas because they had a patriarchal one. Stop anthropomorphizing animals to fit sociopolitical talking points.
